- Primal Planet is my favorite new metroidvania because it has friendly dinosaurs, gorgeous pixel art, and you can hug your wife - 24 July 2025
In Primal Planet I'm a cheerful ol' brute living in a lush jungle with my wife, daughter, and pet dinosaur Sino. As a confident guy of the Mesozoic era, I'm not too worried about all the dinosaurs and insect life. I can use fruit to distract some enemies, I can stealth crabwalk past sleeping T-rexes, and I can even use my spears to reach otherwise inaccessible heights. It's a pretty nice life, though sometimes dinosaurs try to eat me and my family. Also, giant mechanical monstrosities have started appearing: What the hell are they?.. Read more.
- Dinosaurs of Primal Planet – a closer look - 16 July 2025
Hi everyone!I want to tell you a bit about the dinosaurs in Primal Planet. I tried to show each creature the way it could have behaved in nature – at least as far as we know from fossils and research. The sounds are also designed to feel natural – roars, calls, and even footsteps are based on what these animals might have sounded like in real life. It’s not meant to be 100% scientifically accurate – this is still a sci-fi fantasy world, and I enjoyed taking some creative freedom 😅 My goal was to make the creatures feel believable and familiar, even if they’re not textbook-accurate.Here are some of the ones you can meet in the game:AllosaurusA large carnivorous theropod – a predator that hunted other dinosaurs. The Allosaurus has an important role in the story. It’s not just “another big predator,” and you’ll see that when you meet her.ApatosaurusA huge herbivorous sauropod. It’s calm an…

- Life is finding a way on Primal Planet - 26 September 2024
Hello, Dinovanians! It's Albert van Zyl, the solo caveman behind this dinovania. I've been busy crafting Primal Planet into a living and mysterious world and writing a gripping prehistoric/sci-fi story with no dialogue and only action. Combining this with my love for metroidvanias, the idea for Primal Planet was born—a game where you could immerse yourself in a world of dinosaurs. Crafting a Living World My vision for Primal Planet was clear: create a metroi…
