  Hey everyone,We’ve been working on Nullspace for a while now, and we want to start sharing more of the world behind it. Let’s begin with the Hegen Republic, and walk you through our visual-first approach: we started with a direction, developed the aesthetics, then built the lore around what the design suggested.For the Hegens, we were originally inspired by brutalist design, which our concept artist interpreted as bunker-like superstructures and tiered decks that visually reflect a stratified society.Originally, we intended the ships to be built out of literal concrete, with a sandstone coloured grooved concrete finish ala 1960s British brutalist buildings, or the Harkonnen ships from Villeneuve’s Dune. • Command fleets or pilot mouthwatering starships in Nullspace, a strategy game with a "unique" take on the Fermi Paradox - 25 September 2025

  Tasty-looking space games fill the atmosphere nowadays like satellite launch debris, but perhaps you'll find room in your weirdly adapted magnetic fishing net for one more - Kaigan's Nullspace. I came across it in yesterday's Indie Fan Fest stream, and I quite like the cut of its torpedo bays. Nullspace grabs me for a couple of reasons. One is its "retrofuturistic universe", which strikes me as both sleek and cosy. It's kind of chibi Homeworld . The kitbashed ships come alive with swivelling turrets and manoeuvring jets, but something about the way they're proportioned, patterned and lit also makes me think of freshly piped cake icing. I also quite like the Star Fox-style jabbering heads of unit commanders in the bottom corner. Read more
