• Successor Game Released! - 6 January 2025

  As promised, a spiritual successor to 2023: Alien Bugs Invade Earth has been released on Steam. Look for 2024: Aliens Are Coming! (also free to play) This new game has about 20-40 minutes to experience (depending on how you play it), and the story and gameplay experience will steadily grow and expand over time. Hope you enjoy it! This will be the final post on 2023: Alien Bugs Invade Earth. Anything from now on will happen over at the new game. See you there!

• A Successor is on the way! - 6 December 2024

  After many ups and downs, I'm pleased to announce that Alien Bugs Invade Earth has a successor that will be coming out soon! Sometime at the end of December 2024, look for "2024: Aliens Are Coming" in early release. The company for both 2023: Alien Bugs Invade Earth and 2024: Aliens Are Coming shut down earlier this year, but I was successfully able to transfer these games to a new company. Despite this significant hiccup, development has successfully transitioned away from the Unity Engine to the Godot Engine. Unfortunately, this means that 2023: Alien Bugs Invade Earth will remain feature and story incomplete, as I will not risk activating any of Unity Engine's license agreements by updating the game, but the story and gameplay will live on in 2024: Aliens Are Coming as well as other games that are further down the pipe. • Development delayed - Switching Away From Unity Engine - 20 September 2023

  Because of Unity's decisions on a corporate level, the Unity game engine is no longer viable for developers of small indie games like me. Instead of risking this game's future on the future decisions of a few morally questionable corporate people at Unity, I've decided to migrate this game away from Unity sooner rather than later. I can't let my efforts be at the mercy of some evil corporate giant that threatens to suck what little money I make from my efforts. (Especially considering how much money I've already given Unity to date) This is a very unexpected necessity that will cause a lot of extra pain, work, and most importantly, delays in development. Make no mistake: this game is not dead. It'll be well into 2024 before players see a new update (which was just 1-2 weeks away from releasing! arg!), but development will continue! • Flamethrowers, clones, and more story! - 11 August 2023

  REMINDER: This game is still very unfinished and nowhere near its final state! I am very much still in the very early stages of developing this game. (This game is a one-person part-time project, as you could probably tell) Update v0.1.8 is finally here! You now get to wade into the bug-filled city (which is a destructible environment) armed with flamethrowers and companions of...questionable intelligence. If you are careful (but trigger-happy) enough with your flames, you just might retake the capitol from the bugs! Just remember, this is going to be HARD! There are a LOT of bugs, and there are far fewer of you. If your companions die, it might be better to just hit ESC and use the new Level Select feature to return to the beginning of the level. • Achievements and Customizable keybindings! - 17 May 2023

  Let's face it. I balanced this game's difficulty to be pretty brutal when you start the game. You SHOULD be dying at the start. If you don't die on the 2nd level, then congrats, you probably aren't fully human (seriously, you might be a starseed or something), and you already broke the game! (Just make sure you die on the 2nd level eventually, or you won't progress the story) This brutality is to throw in your face how strong and nasty these invading bugs truly are. They're 7 to 8 feet tall, weigh over 400 pounds, and they have a bulletproof exoskeleton that's 3 inches thick. They aren't here to play nice. They're here to take over our governments and militaries and flatten anything that gets in the way of that mission (that's YOU).
