It's been a billion years since I played a proper new Front Mission game, and I'm depressed to learn that Square Enix cancelled one in 2022. Titled Front Mission 2089: Borderscape and developed by BlackJack Studio, it was announced for release on iOS and Android but, who knows, might have clanked and rumbled onto PC, the place all good mobile games go when they die. Alas, Square Enix shut the project down a few months after reveal. Now, they're suing BlackJack for releasing a new game that allegedly makes use of leftover parts from the Front Mission contract. FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake 3.0.1 update is now live! Fixed input issues when connecting a gamepad while the Pause Menu is open. Resolved problems with selecting a New Game+ save. Supply trucks now properly heal friendly units. Addressed Wanzer spawning on occupied fields in Mercenaries single-player missions. Fixed a lobby bug in PvP Two Controllers where dialogs remained visible after disconnecting the gamepad and exiting to the main menu. Additional minor fixes and upgrades. See the list of changes: Improved controls on the world map Ability to use WASD and mouse dragging for navigation. Scroll in the setup menu should now be visible for all resolutions. Fixed softlocks in QuickCombat. Changed the conditions for the "WHATEVER THE COMMAND MAY BE" achievement (the achievement can now also be obtained by eliminating all enemies). Fixed a bug that allowed multiple completions of Extra Mission 2 with OCU. Fixed a camera glitch that caused camera jumps on the map for 21:9 aspect ratio. Other minor bug fixes. Front Mission 1st: Remake posed me an awkward question when it released on PC June 30, and I’d like to answer it from my mech cockpit. The strategy genre on PC has its own hall of fame nowadays, with modern titans like XCOM 2 and BattleTech and Japanese legends like Tactics Ogre: Reborn . And there are so, so many fresh indie strategy games to play in between. So: is there even a reason for a remake of an obscure Super Nintendo game, even with fresh paint over all the bullet holes?..
