Latest Steam announcements

• Update 0.4 - 24 June 2026

Warriors,We’re pleased to announce that Kromlech is now entering Version 0.4. This marks another important milestone in our Early Access journey and, more importantly, lays the groundwork for the next major update, which will introduce the game’s main story campaign.OptimizationOptimization remains an ongoing priority. With Version 0.4, the overall performance in certain locations has improved by as much as 40%! We have also reduced VRAM usage by approximately 400 MB, a change that should be particularly beneficial for players using GPUs equipped with 8 GB of VRAM. That being said, our optimization efforts are far from complete and we continue to see opportunities for further improvements in future updates.Quality of Life ImprovementsUpdate 0.4 focuses on enhancing the overall player experience through a range of quality-of-life improvements. Several elements of the user interface have…

• Update 0.3 - 19 May 2026

Mighty Warriors! We bear good tidings. The time has come and update 0.3 is live! And this time, we focused mainly on further optimization. One of the biggest and most wanted features is a significant reduction in Kromlech’s installation size. Thanks to better compression and usage of new technologies, the game will now take up only around ~50 GB of disk space, less than half of what it required when Early Access launched. We believe this size is now much more reasonable for most players, and these storage optimizations also give us more room to continue expanding the game in the future. Most importantly, the size reduction comes without any noticeable decrease in visual quality. We have managed to increase average performance by 15-20% (depending on hardware and settings). This milestone was achieved through a series of major under the hood optimization endeavors. We segmented the main ma…

• Update 0.2 - 13 April 2026

Mighty Heroes, fearsome Lurg Slayers, and greedy Pillagers! The time has come and update 0.2 is finally here. It took us a bit longer than expected to finish, and we apologize for the delay. However, we believe this update will significantly improve your gameplay experience.Update 0.2 introduces changes across multiple aspects of the game, so let’s take a look at the most notable ones. You can find the full changelog below.File size reductionWe’ve managed to reduce the total file size to approximately 100 GB. Please note that this is an ongoing effort, and further reductions are expected in future updates. We successfully transitioned to a new foliage pipeline, enabling faster rendering, more detailed trees, lower VRAM requirements, and significantly smaller asset sizes. Some trees that previously occupied up to 1 GB now take only around 20 MB - up to 50× smaller. So far, we’ve converted a…

• Update 0.1.50 - 20 March 2026

Warriors! We have heard your feedback, went through the messages and reports you sent us and today, we bring you a new update! It shall make your adventures in Gwern more pleasurable and also bountiful. We introduced some key quality of life improvements and changes, but keep in mind, the journey of Kromlech is still in its first steps and more crucial updates will come at a steady pace. Our team is already working on the next update, but for now, let’s focus on today’s news! Here are the highlightsIntroducing faster loading timesWe have completely redone the loading system, which helped us to drastically reduce loading times, both while loading the game from the menu or while entering dungeons, but also while sleeping, fast traveling or, unfortunately, dying. The improvement is significant, but we are still working on delivering even shorter loading times in future updates.. Long waits…

• Next steps - 12 March 2026

Fellow adventurers! In the past few days, we released the first update and also a quick hotfix to tackle the most pressing issues. Once again, thank you for your continuous feedback, we want you to know that we listen carefully, gather all your insights and are continuously working on improvements. Our next step is to improve performance, stability and add more quality of life features. The next update won't arrive as quickly as the first one however - because we need to work on larger changes that won't be done right away, we can't push smaller immediate changes along with half-done work-in-progress stuff. So just letting you all know: Rather than a couple of days we're looking at a time frame of one or two weeks. We are still in the first days of the Early Access period that will take a year to finish, but it makes us happy to see many of you finding joy in Kromlech and recognizing our…

• Patch 0.1.33.11 - 8 March 2026

Mighty adventurers! The first update is available for download. It took us slightly more time than we anticipated, so we apologize for the longer wait. The reason for this is the refactor of death system, i. e. the promised change of not moving time forward after dying and removal of re-loading after each death. This proved to be a more challenging change and it didn't make it to the first update. The death system update will be released as soon as possible, please stay tuned for more information. Nevertheless the latest update contains the new tutorial level that will explain the basics of combat and also the heavily requested difficulty balance that should help newcomers with onboarding. Cronach now has a better starting weapon, and even though enemies still pose a threat, the early moments of the game will be a bit less punishing. We also managed to repair some bugs and improve perfor…

• Status update #1 - 6 March 2026

Mighty adventurers! It has been less than one day since you began you heroic journey through the world of Kromlech, but you already gifted us a lot of precious feedback. So first and foremost, we’d like to thank you, because with your help and insight, we will be able to shape Kromlech into the game we envisioned, your experiences are very valuable for us. From your initial feedback, we devised a plan to tackle the most pressing issues. In the coming days and weeks, you can expect updates on these aspects:Game file sizeWe’ve heard you, Kromlech IS chunky in it’s current state. The good news is, we are already working on tweaks (currently the new vegetation pipeline) that should limit the size by approx. 20GB, with more possible slimming down the line.Optimizing the performanceOne of the key values of Early Access is getting Kromlech running on a huge variety of systems. It helps us pinpo…
