  Betrayer . Perhaps you've never heard of it, or perhaps you've heard its name whispered around the Reddit and gaming forum campfire, as internet yarn spinners tell of a mysterious, horror-inflected RPG created by former developers of Monolith's FEAR series. Back in 2021, Betrayer vanished from Steam as its creator, Blackpowder Games, seemingly shuttered all operations. Previously lost, Betrayer has suddenly, inexplicably returned, available now as a free game on GOG.   Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. Part horror, part stealth, part open world action-adventure, Betrayer is the first game from Blackpowder, a studio that includes former Monolith employees who worked on the likes of F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever. Released in March 2014, it’s far from an unqualified success but Betrayer wormed its way into my mind and I found myself returning to it a couple of weeks ago. …

• Spanish and Russian! - 11 May 2015

  Took us a while, but we've added two more translations. We owe special thanks to Silvia, Jesus, Oscar, and Fernando for their efforts on the Spanish translation. You also now have the option of showing the locations of chests, page scraps, spade mounds, and other useful information on the in-game map. Markers are categorized so that you can show only the specific information you want to see. Note that if you already have a game in progress, markers won't get cleared for items you've already collected, but should still help you track down any you might have missed.

• Update v1.7 - 28 October 2014

  New Features: Italian translation has been added thanks to the generous help of MarcoCav! Improved gamepad support: Analog movement and strafe. Sensitivity sliders added in Options > Controls for Look and Turn. Map screen can be navigated with the D-Pad - no more tossing explosives when trying to navigate. :) Jump is properly bound to the A button. Store and Inventory slight upgrade - pictures and icons added to make it easier to select what you want.

Fixes: Key binding interface no longer jumps to the top of the list after selecting a key to change.

Fix for the bell in Fort Hope not working properly at the end of the game in certain situations. Fixed a message timing problem that could potentially cause a destination in Deep Forest not to count toward the Pathfinder achievement. The key binding now shows on the Close button and functions as expected in all menus and screens. Map rollovers now work correctly with a gamepad. Numerous improvements in the menus and journal screens related to gamepad focus and selection highlighting.

Listen for their telltale sound and don’t get too close or you’ll regret it. New equipment item! Throwable explosives! Scarce but powerful and highly effective against groups of enemies. Improvements Option to show health bars for enemies. Better enemy ranged weapon leading. Better enemy pathfinding. Better AI foot placement reduces cases of floating enemies. Clarified the “Can’t carry” message. Improved the Listen tutorial.
