Strike Vector EX, an expanded version of 2014’s flashy game about transforming ships dogfighting through sci-fi industrial structures, has launched a free open beta test. The EX releases is updated and expanded with new modes including, crucially, a singleplayer campaign. The original game suffered the fate of so many small multiplayer-only games, failing to achieve a critical mass of players. Which is a bit of a shame, as our former Jim (formerly ours, not formerly Jim – he’s neither dead nor living under a new name) quite liked it . …

A trio of free weekend trials on Steam mean that all and sundry can enjoy what are, as I understand, three figures and ideals important to PC gaming: soldiers, vampires, and jetplanes. They all, naturally, do fighting. Not each other, mind–others of their kind. None of these games will let you e.g. pilot a fighter jet battling winged vampires. More’s the pity, really. Multiplayer futureplane game Strike Vector and realish FPS Insurgency have respectable sales to accompany their free weekend trials, and technically human vs. vamp arenakiller Nosgoth does too but that’ll be free-to-play at launch so it’s less special. …

In that mode, you have to destroy a huge enemy structure while defending yours. You'll have to constantly adapt your style and switch between attack and defense on the fly. It's very fun to play and it also leaves some space for the rookies so be sure to give it a try. For the challenge addicts, we added one more challenge pack and it's pretty challenging. Again we tweaked the amount of Kebs you get for a kill. Now, you get more depending on your target's metal (Steel +15, Silver +30, Gold +45, Platinum +60, etc). Also, we fixed all the issues related to multi-monitor displays. It looks great on 3 monitors, I wish I could afford that... Hi, this time we focused on improving damages feedback and readability (damages you take and damages you get). So we added lifebars on the HUD and damage indicators to make clear where the danger comes from. We also made the Vectors invincible when spawning for a short time. This should discourage spawn-killers on corridor maps a bit. Another important tweak is the kill difference dependant Keb reward : to summarize it, lower-score players will give you less Kebs when killing them, so you'd rather attack someone your own strength (or higher). I was going to poke fun at the name Strike Vector to take some pressure off the colossal responsibility that is introducing a videogame news post , but then I decided to make sure I knew all meanings of the word “vector” and nope, I absolutely do not. A strike vector might be an actual thing, as my education in the field of vectorology is woefully lacking. I do, however, know one thing for sure: Strike Vector The Videogame is unarguably stunning, especially given that it’s a relatively small indie effort.
