  The extra content, Otherworldly Venture, is a skill-testing mode that emphasizes exhilarating action and strategic thinking. Set in an alternate world hidden behind the Torii Gate, this new game mode offers a streamlined version of the standard day/night cycle, featuring an endless horde of enemies. The Maiden's health does not regenerate in this mode, so it's game over when her health reaches zero. Players are challenged to strategically plan positions and villager placements more intensively than in the main game, resulting in a demanding yet rewarding experience.

  Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess was my 2024 game of the year. Sure, there was Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and even Balatro, but Capcom's bizarre tower defense action game hybrid was something new. Developed by Capcom Division 1, the team behind one of my all-time favorite series, Devil May Cry, it's faithfulness to Japanese culture and highly stylized demonic Seethe make it gorgeous to look at, while its hard-as-nails strategy gameplay and slick, almost dance-like combat make it hard but not overly punishing. If you've completed the game already or, like me, want another reason to dive back in, the brand-new Wayward Journey mode is perfect for you - but beware, it's tough as hell.   Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most criminally-underrated games of 2024 so far is Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess . While there hasn't been much mainstream chatter about it, and Steam player count numbers have looked fairly underwhelming, I'm happy to see that Capcom's strategic action game has hit a very impressive milestone of 500,000 players. • Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess review - truly unique - 15 July 2024

  As I sit here writing this introduction, I'm at a loss for how to introduce Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess . The brainchild of Capcom Development Division 1, which is responsible for one of my all-time favorite franchises, Devil May Cry, I was worried that this Japanese folklore strategy game turned hack-and-slash adventure would be little more than a fun oddity. Following a brief hands-on at Summer Game Fest, however, I knew that Kunitsu-Gami was something special - something unquantifiable.
