- September Sale - 11 September 2026
Summer ends, but the death game doesn't. We have another 10-day sale 30% off starting now!The game is about to hit 400 sales! Still a humble number, but I'm proud of how far it has come without a publisher or any sort of marketing agency. Let's see how far it can go!I swear the start date is a coincidence, I just wanted to start it on a Friday...
- Streamer mode added - 2 September 2026
Hello! The game has been updated with a new special setting for streamers and content creators, plus miscellaneous fixes. If you're a content creator interested in playing the game, first of all, thank you! But second, you should know that although the handful of non-original songs in the game are copyright free, I've been notified by a few people that some are flagged for demonetization. If you want to avoid that, you can now turn on Streamer mode at the very bottom of the settings page, in the Audio section. This will replace the five songs that have been hit. Don't worry, there are still nine songs available in the Jukebox. If any of the other songs give you any trouble, please contact me through here, social media, or the Discord server and I'll add them to the banned list! For everyone else, the other changes are small. Basically, I'm still polishing the game to fix every bug and typo…
- Summer sale returns! - 31 July 2026
Hello! The summer sale last month went very well, thanks to everyone who bought the game and spread the word! But summer isn't over yet, so it's time for a second round. Same discount, 30%, for 10 days, just like the 10 rules in the game!
- End of sale update - 9 July 2026
Hello! The sale has ended. Thanks to everyone who bought the game, I hope you enjoy it!Although there wasn't an update planned, there were some errors found on one of the post-game extras that needed to be fixed ASAP. Music was missing for two sections and character expressions were set incorrectly in one section, among other more minor issues. Though they had somehow gone unnoticed until now, or at least unreported, I'm sorry.Besides that, this update also introduces one coding change to the Jukebox system to improve performance. This should reduce load times in some scenes and reduce memory use at the low cost of some songs taking an extra half a second to load.My testing hasn't found any issues, but if you find any, or any other bug, please report them in the Steam forum or our Discord server, I'll respond as soon as I see them!
- Summer sale! First time 30% off - 25 June 2026
The Golden Jack extends a special invitation. Summer is here and everything's heating up a lot, so starting today and for the next two weeks, you can enter the bar at 30% off (highest discount yet!) and enjoy our AC and DG. What's DG? Don't worry, the G stands for Game. It's to make your stay as enjoyable as possible!Remember, the sale ends July 9. Please consider supporting our humble establishment so it can remain open for the years to come! Spread the word, too! Someone is in the kitchen cooking something mysterious and we'll need to stay open to find out what it is. Judging by the smell, you might get a little taste once it all cools down...
- Half a year Sale! - 14 May 2026
Hello! It's been 6 months since the game's release, November 14th, starting at 3PM EST, the game will be 20% off until next week!Last sale we were able to get past 300 sales, which are still very humble numbers, but every sale helps, so let's see how many we can get. If you already played it and liked it, you can also help by spreading the word! And for those who finished it, there are some news over at the game's Kickstarter page, check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tohriv/beyond-r-rule-ripper-evolving-death-game-visual-novel/posts/4686948
- Update for various visual fixes - 11 May 2026
Hello! Though I don't normally make patch notes, the latest update has a few somewhat important visual fixes that feel worth reporting. The first one is to the Golden Jack's map. There was one small innacuracy in the pool table area that had gone unnoticed until now. Explaning the problem would involve spoilers, albeit light ones, so I'll let any detectives reading this figure it out.The other two fixes are much more spoiler heavy, so I'll keep it vague enough. One is to a light in one of the backgrounds having the wrong color while the other is to a character-less CG. Both of them can be seen in the final chapter. Of the three, the change to the CG is by far the most important one. Thankfully most people didn't seem to notice my mistake, though I wish someone had to fix it sooner. On top of that, the update contains some typo and bug fixes as usual. That is all! Though while I'm here, I c…
- Spring sale! 20% off for a week - 19 March 2026
Steam's Spring Sale has come to the Golden Jack! Entry is now 20% off, the biggest discount since November's release! The sale ends in a week, March 26th. If you haven't given the game a chance, please try out the demo or buy it, it needs more support! And if you have and liked it, you can help spread the word around.
- New gallery extra added! - 28 January 2026
A new unlockable has been added to the gallery extras! A really cool artwork comissioned by a fan of the game, Coffy, drawn by Kamonabe Pasta. It has been added to the game with their permission. Big thank you to both! You can unlock it by reaching the game's true end, it's the last one in the list (which unfortunately it's no longer a perfect square, but the sacrifice is worth it). If you already have, it will be unlocked automatically when you open the game.
- Winter Sale + Soundtrack now on Steam! - 18 December 2025
The Steam Winter Sale has begun! You can now buy the game at 10% off. Same discount as on launch week.Plus, you can now buy the soundtrack on Steam! 30 tracks in high quality FLAC format so you can enjoy them at their absolute best. All OST sales will go to the composer. If you haven't bought the game yet, please give it a shot! The free demo will give you a big taste of it, but I'd really appreciate getting your support on this passion project so it can go beyond.
- Original Soundtrack released - 13 December 2025
The official soundtrack is out! One of the most lauded aspects of the game.Created by the talented Sonos Vitae, with main theme composition by Alvaro Suárez, the soundtrack has a gran total of 30 songs! The cover was drawn by assistant artist and Poker's number 1 fan, RavEN.You can listen to it for free on Youtube, or buy it for high quality FLAC files and to support the composer.A Steam release will be be out before the end of the month, but it had to be delayed due to Steam's publishing policies (no weekend releases, have to wait at least 2 weeks since the page is made public).
- Major save bug fixed! - 9 December 2025
Hello, I bring great news!It took a while to figure out, but perhaps the most troublesome bug since release has finally been fixed! For those unaware, some players had reported that their loading times when loading a save were getting bigger as they played, to the point of taking several minutes by the end of it. It was bad enough that it looked like the game froze. The reason ended up being very simple: the engine wasn't properly removing the data from scenes when switching to the next one, so it kept piling up and making huge save files. Now all unneeded data is properly purged when a scene ends. So if you have been having trouble when loading, just make sure to reach the end of a scene and save after it. Next time you load it, it'll be extremely fast! This change should improve the game's performance, too. Another big step towards making the experience as smooth as possible. If you know…
- More improvements and fixes! - 4 December 2025
Hi! As you might have noticed, I've been busy ever since release fixing bugs and improving the game. I've barely done any patch notes because working on the game is already a lot of work, but as updates have slowed down, I felt like making one for today's update.I won't go into details about the bug fixes, but the main ones are related to flag problems when moving through time in the not-secret-anymore Time menu, especially when repeating paths. If you didn't hear about it, though the game explains it too, you can access it by clicking on the Time in the BARMAN. I made big improvements to it about a week ago, making it easier to know where you need to go, what you haven't done during investigations, and branch buttons that let you switch back and forth. Now, thanks to more feedback and having more time to focus on QoL, I've made the following changes:Added a Time-Out to Councils 4, 5, an…
- Mac version released! - 29 November 2025
After many trials and tribulations, I can finally announce the release of the Mac (Apple Silicon) version of the game and the demo. That release is...NOW! It's already out!I won't go into detail about all the problems that delayed this for 2 weeks, what matters is that it's finally done. This would not have been possible without the help of Mac testers SpecOps and RavEN. Thank you so much. Now, there is a bit of an elephant in the room. This version is specifically for Apple CPUs. I can make a version for Intel, but Steam does not have an option to have them separate, and fusing both versions is a whole other problem. From what I know, the vast majority of Mac users use Silicon, so this shouldn't be a big deal. But if you can't play the game because you only have Intel and only use MacOS, let me know in the comments here, the discussion board, or the Discord server.
- Quality of Life Upgrades and more fixes! - 24 November 2025
Hi! After getting more player feedback, I decided to make an important change to one of the game's features, a secret menu that was intended to be found naturally by the player, but ended up being too important and too well hidden for many. After many adjustments, I've decided to let it go and make the secret as clear as possible and add direct explanations in the bad endings where you would need it the most. I'm being vague about it because I still want it to be a bit of a surprise, even if the way to access it isn't, which I'll add here for good measure: Open your BARMAN and click the timer. On top of that, I improved that menu by adding To-do lists on investigation choices and point markers to track your progress and making the game a lot easier to navigate without a guide. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry, you'll see. Finally, I fixed more bugs, the most importa…
- Final update for today, I swear! (Probably) - 16 November 2025
-Fixed a common crash that didn't exist until today. -Fixed a bug related to texts not appearing that was caused by one of today's bug fixes. Sometimes you fix a bug and you create two in its place... Sorry, I'm doing all I can! Should be fine now.
- The game is out! Welcome to the Golden Jack! - 14 November 2025
The doors of the Golden Jack are finally open to all customers! You have been chosen to play a game. You have been poisoned. It's a slow poison. If you play my visual novel you will receive the antidote and a pretty cool mystery story experience. If you want to come out alive, you'll have to purchase, especially before the 10% discount on the first week ends.Signed, Tohriv and the GJ StaffPD: Support for MacOS will come at a future date.
- Demo now available for Linux! - 5 November 2025
Good news for Linux users! The demo version is out now.And I can finally confirm that the Linux version of the game will be available on release day, November 14. That's only 9 days away! It's been confirmed to work on a Steam Deck too, but I can't guarantee that the controls are fully compatible. The game has been designed for keyboard and mouse, with some scenes requiring a mouse to proceed, but controller options will be looked into after launch. As for a MacOS version, we're working on it, but there's some technical problems with launching the game. If it can't make it to launch, we'll keep trying and make it available as soon as possible.
- The Next Fest is live! - 13 October 2025
The day has come! As previously announced, the game is joining the Steam Next Fest this week. The demo was updated for the latest bug fixes, but if you find anything, you can report it in the Steam discussion over here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2551380/discussions/0/592909223872234471/If you enjoy the demo, help support this indie project by spreading the word around, this will probably be the most important push we'll have before release (which is only a month away!!). And once you finish the demo, share your thoughts on the forums or come join our Discord server! I won't share the link here because you can access it from the game itself.Happy Next Fest!
- Game releases November 14, demo out now! - 26 September 2025
Hello! The title speaks for itself, but here's a new short trailer too:The demo is finally out! As it was announced previously, we'll be participating in next month's Next Fest, starting October 13, and this is step one.Though there has been a beta available before through Itch.io, this is the first properly polished version, as close to the final version as possible. No more placeholders, way less bugs, etc. We'll keep polishing until release, so any feedback and bug reports are very welcome! The progress you make in this demo will automatically carry over to the full version, including Steam achievements (they will be unlocked when loading a save file from the end of the demo). This is a huge demo, featuring the first three chapters of the game, about 6-8 hours.Enjoy the demo, wishlist the game if you haven't already, and see you in November 14 for the release!
