  • Come visit us again - 8 September 2026

If you playedDark Ride: The Feline Fix, thank you for being one of the first people to step into our little world. The Feline Fix was our first experiment withDark Ride— our attempt to see what a theme park attraction could feel like if it was built from the beginning for VR. We started small: one magical potion shop, a village mysteriously turned into cats, drawers and jars to search through, ingredients to find, and plenty of little surprises hidden around you. It was cozy, curious, a little strange, and very much the beginning of something bigger. Now we’re building that bigger thing. Dark Ride is our new VR theme park — and this time, we’re building the whole park. A place you can wander through, explore at your own pace, discover different attractions, interact with the world, find hidden clues, uncover stories, and slowly learn more about Harland and everything going on behind the…

  • The Real Deal (Mostly) - 11 March 2026

For a long time now we have been working towards this day. To actually put you nice people into a weird little car and drive you down a weird little path we made for it. A dark ride! Welcome to Dark Ride: Sweet Dreams our new FREE VR adventure.Because we were so unsure of everything, this is not the only ride we have made. This is more like one of three, and several non-ride based experiences. And three lands with a dozen stores each. And oh yeah, a couple more experiences I just remembered. Oh yeah and a garden. And some secret tunnels. And a couple warehouses. Back to this ride though. It was the first. Just a little jaunt around a birthday themed story that takes you on a journey that probably won’t make sense to you. I personally hope it will not make sense to you. The rest of the team might feel differently. But, I do think that it might make sense after a ride or two. What I hope…

  • An Experiment. A Good Old Fashioned Experiment! - 27 February 2026

Soon we will be releasing a new game in Early Access. It’s a subset of a chunk of a piece that fits into the master plan. But it’s a very very critical piece. It’s a legitimate VR dark ride. What is a “dark ride?” I hear you say. Good question Chappy. Can I call you Chappy? It sounds good to me and you just don’t have much say in the matter so. Here we go Chappy. Chappy. A dark ride is a classic Disney concept where the original concept was to let people “ride the movies” - a tagline later stolen by a competitor. People would continually go to California and drive by the Disney studios and they wanted to see Mickey and Snow White. Did they know that these were cartoons? I think so. But it was the 50’s, so who knows what they thought was inside of the magic picture box. But at a minimum they thought they would see a cool statue or get to go on a tour or shake Walt’s hand. So Walt had thi…

  • When is Easter?! - 9 January 2026

Please skip 3-4 paragraphs. This top part is self indulgent nonsense.I’ll get to the article in a minute. But now I’m thinking about eggs Remember the phases of eggs? Like you only liked them scrambled probably. Then you got older and you felt really sophisticated to order them some other way like sunny side up or over easy or JUEVOS rrrrancheros. And sometimes you just had to pretend like. Yes. Of course. I have them all the time like this... Lies. And then maybe a waitress asked you “do you want the edges crispy?” And you thought. “Why yes. Fine lady, I DO like those delicious lacy brown edges.”And then you learned to make them at home. And you F’d it up but they still tasted ok? I mean granted you struggled with that little slick snotty sack around the yolk🍳, But you learned to deal with it any number of ways. (Just poke that thing. Gently. But pop it.)And then one time you saw Jose…

  • Hard Hats and Party Hats - 19 December 2025

We’re closing out the year at Paleozoic with a few wins under our belt. To name a few:* We went to the **Unity conference in Barcelona** and ate tapas and froze on the beach. * We brought on a new developer* We brought on a full time composer (what?)* We released our **first mini-game** on the **Meta Store** for **Quest 3**. * Managed to port the same game over to Oculus.* Managed again! To port the same game over for **Steam** on various headsets. Many of them work as intended! *(Sarcasm, there are a LOT of headsets)** Built a good chunk of new programming and design for our next release. And the next. * All the while we kept working on the main BIG game “Dark Ride” that brings all the mini games and the whole back story together. This week we have been building a little 1 week sprint that *(I the writer of this post have been trying to get people to call “Friday We Ride!” But nobody w…

  • Chasing Cozy, and Finding It - 12 December 2025

Woooo... Seems appropriate. We released a thing on Steam! The team can ship! We’re learning about some of the edge cases we need to be better at. Mostly controllers it seems. And that’s good. That’s a real world problem with actual answers. The worry was more that people would not like the actual “thing” we built. The vibe and the "why." But actually the feedback on that has been really nice. And actually kind of heart warming. We hoped to hear that all-too-trendy term used these days —“cozy” - and we did! Can there be better feedback than that your game is cozy? Like a warm blanket or a purring cat. We started this whole thing to make spaces in VR that people wanted to be in. To stay in and maybe come back to. Placemaking is really interesting. There are places (I the writer) have never been in. Places that do not actually exist. That I know as well as some favorite real world places.…

  • Tomorrow, We Launch Dark Ride: The Feline Fix - 1 December 2025

In an ongoing series we call "Shouting into the Void" - another update on the game!Tomorrow. Tomorrow the game that is the first of our games to release on Steam -happens at you. What will it mean? What will it do? How will this change your life and relationships and the existential dread you feel? The answer is that it will not repair any of those deep crushing holes you feel inside. But. If you buy it. For a few calm and peaceful moments... You will put on the headset and be somewhere else. A dreamlike place, in a far away, purposefully-non-specifical _Asia_ where you have a brief and nice puzzle to solve. And is it one of the two puzzles you hate? The one where it's so complicated that only the game makers understand the non-linear logic they used to derive the clues? NO!Is it the other kind where it's like "The orb that ought be on Newton's head?" And you shout APPLE. APPPLE. A.P.P.…

  • Welcome to the game. The waiting game. - 12 November 2025

We really hated looking at a blank community page here. So to kick things off... An update nobody asked for yet! We recently released our first VR title on Meta. https://www.meta.com/experiences/dark-ride-the-feline-fix/32643999985198449/ We're tackling the stores and platforms one by one though. And Steam is coming up next. This is the one that actually feels real to us. We're more Steam people than Meta people so we can't wait to actually release a game here and start making friends. VR is such a small but great community and we're looking forward to putting our name on the map. Now. We just have to wait for next month when Steam says we've waited long enough in game purgatory to let you all (who are not here yet) give it a try.
