- Update notes for 1.26.5.20 - 20 May 2026
A box was sticking through the ceiling of the cabin where the body is found. Fixed the collision on the shopping mall reception desk. It was possible for the cutscene at the shopping mall reception to play twice. A conversation in the shopping mall between two NPCs kept playing after cat had moved away. Occasionally mice would be invisible in the map room cutscene. In the burning front restaurant the rat that zaps the glass now does so more quickly. The title "Ships Cat" text image stretched horizontally if the screen's proportions weren't 16:9. In the theatre a shark now swims in the water when the glass is broken. The aquarium doesn't reset if the cat is eaten by the shark. And the shark is visible. Put another poster on the pest control office, and another poster in the hallway to the elevator. The drunk passenger dialog keeps running even after the player leaves the disco. In the re…
- Update notes for 1.26.3.30 - 29 March 2026
Added subtitles for English, German, Spanish, Italian and French languages. Fixed a bug where the cat would teleport up a wall if the cat was angled upward by just the right amount when it contacted the wall. Fixed many small cosmetic bugs.
- Update notes for 1.26.3.3 - 5 March 2026
If a the cat was walking to a waypoint when the player re-loaded a previous save, the cat would continue to walk to that waypoint after the save was loaded. Adjusted a few level streaming volume whose location and size were not correct, causing streaming levels to occasionally unload. Changed the text on the "Conditions of entry" sign in the playground. The music in the elevator was not turning off when the cat exited it. The vent near the shopping mall reception should have been locked from the outside but wasn't. If you pressed the "credits" button mid-game it never went back to the main menu again. This is a terrible, embarrasing mistake. It is what happens when you don't test things enough. As always I apologise for such a basic error.
- Update notes for 1.26.2.17 - 16 February 2026
Toggle switches used to blink when turned off. It looks like I bumped some code and broke the blinking while fixing thing for 1.26.2.16. I apologize again for such a dumb mistake.
- Update notes for 1.26.1.16 - 15 February 2026
Fixed a mistake with the playground laserbeam. The on/off state was not being saved with the save game. Fixed a mistake with toggle switches. I added an "Enabled" state to allow them to be disabled as opposed to on/off, but when a savegame was loaded the on/off level sequences were being triggered. I apologize for such a dumb mistake.
- Update notes for 1.26.2.13 - 12 February 2026
When the cat did a U-turn in a vent the camera would sometimes move outside the vent. This would then cause the level to unload. If the player re-loaded a save in the playground area immediately after playing through it some doors were not reset to their initial positions correctly. The player was able to open a door in the library that should have been locked.
- Update notes for 1.26.2.3 - 3 February 2026
Fixed some level streaming volumes that were slightly too small. This meant in some situations if the camera was in just the right location a streaming level would unload and the cat would fall through the floor.
- Update notes for 1.25.12.18 - 18 December 2025
+Make charge attack go in whatever direction is necessary, not just forward. +In the front restaurant make the cat use the lightning animation. +Fixed a reported bug in the NPC head controller. +Fixed a reported bug where we were adding a listener to the break glass event on an aquarium twice. +Added support for PS5 online sub-system and activities. +Added a light above the "press NNN to jump" sign in the training area.
- Release notes for 1.25.11.11 - 11 November 2025
+One of the float pool toys in the pool deck managed to float out of the pool and into the land. +A few elevator doors where assigned to the wrong streaming level, causing the game to occasionally crash. +There is an area behind information that I didn't finish but there are doors and vents that lead to it. I am locking the doors until I put something there. +The cat doesn't swim in the ponds in the shopping mall. +Immediately after leaving the water slide if the player pressed jump the cat sit doing nothing for a second. +The camera goes through the aquariums instead of moving in front of them. +The cat can escape from the burning mall via a girder near timezone. +After resuming a game, if you return to the menu then press "new" the game hangs. +We didn't hear the initial audio from the person standing on the table in the pooldeck. +When the head rat zaps the cat in the reactor the lig…
- Changes notes for 1.25.11.2 - 2 November 2025
+As a result of insufficient testing I broke the final cutscene of the game. In order to fix a camera problem when the cat is in the liferaft I changed the trace channel for the cat's walking and jumping from ECC_Visibility to ECC_Camera, which is the right thing to do - I had it set wrong initially. However that introduced some rather obvious problems with blocking volumes which I didn't think about when I did the change. I apologise for my stupidity. +A flame in the funnel area was not turning off reliably. +You can hear the pool deck music while in the elevator going down to the upper cabins.
- Changes in 1.25.10.31 - 31 October 2025
+As you go down the elevator from the training area to the pool deck you can hear the pool deck music. +The mouse input was not being captured immediately when the game started. +Make the fishing boat not appear to be coming out of the water. +Truncate the Syberian hamster conversation. +Remove a "High resolution screenshot saved as" message when saving the game.
- Partch notes for 1.25.10.23 - 23 October 2025
I accidentally left the menu option "Play from cat" in the main menu. I apologize for my stupidity.
- Changes and fixes in 1.25.10.22 - 22 October 2025
+Re-arranged the start of the pool deck to better introduce the player to the world. +Fixed a cut and paste bug recursion bug I introduced a few weeks ago. +Make shoulder buttons attack and jump. +Make a separate PS5 settings screen. +If we go to settings during gameplay we don't have focus. Back still works but we don't see focus anywhere. If we then return to the main menu we don't have focus there anymore either. +When we return to the main menu from any sub-screen make sure the focus is on that last control. Currently we sometimes lose focus. +Make run happen automatically with full joystick movement. +On the load game screen X should press the "load" buttons. Circle should make back happen. +Make the settings "apply changes" button go back after doing it's thing. +With the move joystick full forward the cat still does a walk animation. +Change the PS5 move joystick run threshold to…
- Release notes for 1.25.10.3 - 4 October 2025
+Fixed a crash bug from a player where we couldn't throw a mouse that was in the process of being destroyed by the garbage collector. I assume the cat was carrying the mouse it picked up in a level that was now unloading then attempted to throw it. +Put posters in the passenger elevators. +The mice in the hallway past the rear kitchen didn't run away. +Clean up all the nanite warnings in the log. Fix them by turning the nanite meshes into normal meshes.
- Bug fixes and improvements for 2/10/2025 - 2 October 2025
+Fix the problem where we have boom sound in some areas when we load a game, because the audio volumes are turning down sounds over a second. +Put a light in the first part of the pipe room just past the vent so the player can see the floor. +Move the crew discussing cargo further up the hallway to near the boxes. +Adjust all the conversations on the pooldeck so they don't overlap. +The entry just before the playground rocket is too dark. +Extend outside of lower cabins, fill a few holes. +In the laundry hallways lower the engine noise by 25%. No idea. I looked into it. The audio volumes are correct the attenuation on the sound looks correct. +When walking into the meat locker vent we heard audio from the kitchen for a second. +When we drop the cheese in the meat locker it disappears. When we re-load they are not there at all or some are missing. +In the kitchen cutscene make the mouths…
- Update note for 29th September part 2 - 29 September 2025
-Changed the way the opening title level is loaded to not block the main thread, and also to wait until all required shaders are compiled. -Added a message on the loading screen showing the number of shaders still to compile so the player doesn't think the game has stopped responding.
- Ship's Cat 1.1 - 29 September 2025
After a year of work there is now a major update to the game. Most of the game has been updated or improved in some way, mainly involving new or better assets, animation, audio and level structure. Some areas are new, most have been re-arranged to make things clearer or more fun.The code was updated to use Unreal Engine 5 (previously it was 4). The main features we gain from this are Nanite, Lumen, and virtual textures. Lumen gives us dynamic lighting everywhere instead of baked static lights but means the minimum requirements in order to run the game have gone up. On my machine with an NVIDIA RTX 3050 with epic settings it takes around 10ms for each frame. With baked lighting on Unreal Engine 4 the cost was under 1ms.Nanite and virtual textures don't appear to have any great cost and improve streaming level load time greatly. They also appear to lower the peak GPU RAM.
- Updates for 29th September 2025 - 29 September 2025
Pre-compiling of shaders had been turned off during debugging and was not turned on for the production build. This makes the game stutter and look bad. I apologise for such an obvious bug.
- Version 1.1 release - 28 September 2025
This is a large update for Ship's Cat. Most areas have been updated, animations have been improved, music has been added, in the whole game has been polished. Specifically: There is a new training area. New cat attack animations and effects. More interaction with humans. The playground has been made totally re-arranged. Story clues have been added to make the game more satisfying. Improved human cut-scenes. Combat with mice is easier. The aquarium has been enlarged and improved. You can now shoot the poker machines in the casino. You can play one video game in the arcade. More will be added soon. New music has been added where it was needed. Many bugs fixes. More improvements will be added over time that didn't make it into this update.
- Update notes for 1.24.5.21 - 21 May 2024
The NPC head controller was attempting to look at another NPC when the level was unloading, meaning the UE4 garbage collector nulled that other NPC's pointer. This caused causing a null pointer crash.
