It's " an authentic and exciting experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike ." Microsoft have announced some changes to Xbox Game Pass. As of today, its Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers are having their prices slashed, but neither will get Call of Duty games at launch going forwards. For as long as I've been covering the Call of Duty scene (which is much closer to a decade than I'd care to admit) leaks have been part and parcel of the annual cycle. Rumors of which Activision studio is making the next game, what it'll be called, where it'll be set, and what kind of content it'll offer regularly spill out into the open, but over the years the amount of credible sources for those leaks have steadily diminished. Following some extremely significant claims from one of the last-remaining, prominent CoD leakers last week, which Activision publicly denied, it seems it's properly had enough. OK, I'll admit it: I actually quite like the newly revealed Fallout crossover in Black Ops 7 . I'm not proud of it, given my past criticisms of Call of Duty 's bizarre, totally unrelated collabs. Sure, seeing Ella Purnell call in a UAV or The Ghoul wall-bouncing with a rocket launcher is jarring, but as a fan of Fallout (the games and the Amazon series) they're pretty cool skins. However, I'm not sure liking it is the same as supporting it. I think some elements work well here, but on the whole, seeing Pip-Boys and blue jumpsuits in Black Ops 7 before Season 1 has even wrapped does absolutely nothing to support CoD's mission to be more "authentic." Similarly, he steered Respawn to enormous success as it created the Titanfall duology, Apex Legends, and the Star Wars Jedi series. Most recently, Zampella took charge of the Battlefield franchise after 2042's challenging launch. He shepherded the series to release Battlefield 6, widely regarded as a return to form and one of 2025's best-selling titles. The criticism that annually released games are just '$70 reskins' or 'glorified DLC' is often pretty valid - as a long-time FIFA (now EA FC) player, it's a debate I've heard countless times now. However, in the past, I always felt that criticism was slightly unfair when targeted at Call of Duty . Sure, it's a similar formula each time, but there was always enough variation in characters, setting, weaponry, maps, and modes that the next game never felt totally rehashed. In recent times, though, I find myself struggling to defend CoD on that topic. The series' decision to do back-to-back Modern Warfare games and then consecutive Black Ops games over the last four years has been a questionable one.
