  • Big Update: New Levels and Difficulty Mode! - 5 October 2026

Hey everyone! Find Matt's Cats has been updated to Version 2. This update adds a lot of new content to the game: • 14 new levels spread across 2 new worlds. (these levels are more ambitious than the original levels and include some unique mechanics) • A "Simple" difficulty option, which features a shorter list of goals, and less interactions, but gradually becomes more challenging as you progress. (you can play this with your kids, or if you want a more relaxing experience) • More cursors and filters that can be unlocked with gems. • 10 new achievements, for a total of 100. • 25 new artworks to collect for the gallery. • And finally, a bunch of new dialogue, featuring more trivia about the game's development. If you have not finished the game, and want to play the new levels, you can type this cheat on the main menu: "skip to the good stuff" This will temporarily unlock all levels. Enjo…

  • Upcoming Features Roadmap - 6 April 2026

Hey everyone! It’s been 3 weeks since Find Matt’s Cats launched, so here’s an update about future plans. The launch went about as well as it could have. Sales are fairly strong and there hasn’t been a lot of serious problems to address. Most of the bugs are quite minor, or were already known about from the demo. We’ve recovered about 58% of the development costs so far – if you assume an average UK salary for me and Ronja. That’s not bad. I also pushed out a quick update that added many quality-of-life features that players asked for, including more options, Windows touchscreen support, and some level design improvements. The main issues that need to be fixed are: • Steam cloud was supposed to transfer save data from the demo to the full version of the game, but this doesn’t work. I’m not sure what I did wrong, but I’ll need to look into it. Players can still move the “saves” folder man…

  • Version 1.1.2 - 2 April 2026

Version 1.1.1 broke some achievements for 100% completion. This 1.1.2 update fixes those achievements. If you encountered this issue, you may need to reset one level and complete it again. (level 1 would be best) Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Version 1.1.1 - 1 April 2026

Added a quick fix for a bug that would cause levels to not initialise correctly, leading to a lot of strange effects. The problem was caused by the screenshake effect being active while starting a level. There's also one new level, but you can't play it without hacking the game. It'll be available in a future update.

  • Find Matt's Cats version 1.1.0 - 30 March 2026

Hey everyone! This update fixes a lot of small issues, and adds many options based on player feedback so far. Version 1.1.0: Added basic touchscreen support for Windows (not tested yet) Added button on pause menu to skip current level (for anyone who doesn't like spot-the-difference or massive levels) Added option to limit how many goals are revealed at a time (this discourages spam-clicking and encourages paying attention) Added option to disable weather effects like rain, fog, etc Added option to disable lighting effects, like night, sunset, flashlight, and shadow realm Added option to disable 2nd cursor in spot-the-difference Added 5 new cursor effects: - Pulsate near last 3 keys - Pulsate near cards - Make gems sparkle more often - Charge hints by popping animals - Cannot harm animals Added 7 more fan arts to collect Added 3 new cheats, for rain, thunderstorm, and snow at night ("te…

  • Find Matt's Cats launches on March 16th - 23 February 2026

Hey everyone! It's been in development for 3 years, but "Find Matt's Cats" finally launches on March 16th! A few people have tested the full version of the game, and it's going to take around 50 hours to 100% complete everything, while a more casual play-through may take around half of that. You may have noticed that the name of the game has changed. It turns out that "Hidden Cats" was recently trademarked, so I had 48 hours to quickly change the name everywhere right before Next Fest started. I guess the trend of "Hidden Cats" games is over now. This game doesn't really compete with them though - it's a much bigger $20 game - but having to change the name was still very annoying at this late time! I'm hoping the launch is smooth and successful, because I want to add even more content to the game soon. I've still got leftover ideas. Anyway, I hope you guys add the game to your wishlist,…

  • Matt's Hidden Cats launching soon + More EBF Content?! - 19 January 2026

Hey everyone! I was hoping to finish Matt's Hidden Cats in 2025, but I missed that deadline by a little bit. The game will launch this March! Please go add it to your wishlist! Here's the new trailer, which shows off some gameplay and EBF lore: I'll also be dropping a demo on Steam soon - I'm currently polishing off the translations. The game supports 18 languages: English, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Spanish (LatAm), Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (BR), German, French, Italian, Polish, Czech, Lithuanian, Finnish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Turkish. In other news, I've been drawing some EBF-style assets for practice lately... I'm not planning to use these for anything in particular yet, but you never know... If you want to stay updated, make sure to follow me on Newgrounds, BlueSky, or Discord.

  • Why is Matt’s Hidden Cats Taking so Long? - 10 September 2025

Hey everyone!I’m realising it’s been around 3 years since I started working on Matt’s Hidden Cats – which is how long the original version of Epic Battle Fantasy 5 took to make, and that’s my best game by far! So you may be wondering why a seemingly simpler project is taking so long…?Well, I also need to answer this for myself to regain some sanity. So here’s some reasons… —First of all, it’s not the only thing I’ve been working on. In this time I also ported Epic Battle Fantasy 4 to Android and updated the Windows version (sorry, iOS fans). I’ve been supporting the EBF5 modding community and fan-made Chinese translations for my older games. And I’ve been doing general maintenance, promotions, and customer support for my existing games, which are still selling well.Secondly, I’m not working full time anymore! I have more hobbies now. I’m travelling more. I’m playing more video games. I’m…

  • Matt's Hidden Cats Status Update - 4 November 2024

Heya, people. I think it's time for a status report on Matt's Hidden Cats. Currently 74 levels for the game are finished, and it's expected to have around 80, maybe a little more. Once those are done, I need to start working on the menus, story, and lots and lots of polish. Level design ended up taking a lot longer than I expected, because the levels are more detailed and have more interactive elements than most similar games. Plus there's 3 different difficulty options with different items to find on each, so that adds some development time, but I'm sure it will be worth it as it gives the game a lot of re-playability. While the game is perfectly playable now, there's still a lot of work to do on improving animations and item interactions even more, and there's also a lot of bugs and optimization issues I've been ignoring for months that I'll have to eventually sort out. And levels I m…
