- Update 10 - 12 September 2026
Cloud Saves I added Steam cloud saves to the game, which was a highly requested feature. This means that save files should now be automatically synced between multiple devices. Rotation joint changes I added some features to the rotation joints that should make them a lot more useful. You can now clamp the minimum and maximum angle, set the speed it rotates at, and toggle whether it returns to its starting position automatically when you are not giving any input. Together these changes enable quite a few things that were not possible before. One good example being a wheel steering mechanism. Cameras There is now a camera part. You can attach cameras anywhere on your plane and switch between them while flying, so you are no longer limited to the default views. Balancing changes - Increased rewards on endless missions - Increased cargo in first 2 cockpits - Made ramjet cost 6000 instead o…
- Update 9 - 31 August 2026
Endless quests The most common feedback I’ve received is that players are disappointed that there are no new quests after finishing the game. A common suggestion has been to add endless randomly generated quests for those who want to keep playing. Implementing this turned out to be quite a challenge. While quests are simple conceptually, just a cargo type and an amount that needs to be delivered, generating one that’s actually balanced is surprisingly difficult, and I went down many dead ends before landing on a decent solution. Now, after completing the game, you can visit airports that previously had no more quests and receive a randomly generated one. The feature is still somewhat experimental and the generated quests won’t be perfect, so any feedback would be really valuable. Let me know what you think! Bug fixes Fixed propeller not showing for the large turbo prop engine Fixed end…
- Update on the full release - 21 August 2026
I want to give a quick update on my progress towards the full release. The roadmap I posted in April is proving to be a bit too ambitious. The first 2 months went well, and while I did manage to ship Steam workshop support, some of the promised features of June were already delayed. I’m currently still working on endless mode, which will hopefully ship this month. However, the game will unfortunately not be ready to release in August. I don’t want to commit to a new release date too early again but I will keep you updated. Thank you for your patience!
- Update 8 - 30 June 2026
I had a lot more planned for this month than I actually got done. The same thing happened last month, so my planning has been a little optimistic. But it’s not all bad, I did add a big feature this month. Steam Workshop This month finally brings the Steam Workshop to the game. You can now upload your planes for others to try, and browse what other people have made. I’m hoping that being able to share your creations can help grow a more creative, community driven side of the game. Uploading is quite simple, you click the “Save” button, fill in a name, description and tag, and hit upload. To use other people’s designs, subscribe to them on the Steam Workshop. The load panel now has a new “Workshop” tab. You don’t have to restart the game to load planes. I’ve decided to keep the workshop focused on sharing plane designs. I know I’ve mentioned adding custom parts in the past, but keeping th…
- Small Patch - 1 June 2026
Fixed performance issues with propeller engines Fixed invisible helicopter rotors Fixed upgrade hint in the wrong place Fixed slow backwards taxing Improved explosion visuals
- Update 7 - 31 May 2026
Last month I laid out a plan for May. Unfortunately not everything on the list made it in. But I did get a good amount done, and I would rather release what is ready than hold it back. This update is mostly about visuals and performance. It also includes a rework of the propeller breakage system based on your feedback. Terrain spawning I spend most of my time reworking the terrain generation system. This used to be very inefficient, and was held together by a bunch of hacky solutions. It is mostly behind the scenes work but it already has some practical effects Rocks I added rock spawning to the terrain. This was not really possible before, but the new LOD and terrain spawning systems made it possible. It is a small addition, but it helps the world feel a bit less empty. Loading times Every time you reset to your base, or at the current airport, or transition from build mode to flying m…
- Small patch - 5 May 2026
Rebalanced engine efficiency curves Rebalanced some wheels Small performance improvement
- Update 6 - 30 April 2026
This update is focused on physics improvements. The goal was to add more depth without sacrificing the accessibility that makes Aviassembly what it is. I hope this update strikes a good balance. Engine efficiency Engines now have an airspeed-efficiency curve. This means each engine has an optimal speed where it performs best. This is displayed as a new “optimal speed” stat on each engine. I’m hoping that this will make engine selection a bit more intresting. Helicopter balance You can now thrust downwards with helicopters. This was important to make them more versetile, especially in combination with balloons. I also used the new engine efficiency system to make helicopters perform better at lower speeds. This should make them feel more distinct from planes and a bit more viable in the campaign. Auto steer and barrel rolls Auto steer used to struggle when flying straight up or attemptin…
- The future of Aviassembly - 21 April 2026
Edit: Unfortunately, this roadmap has proven to be a bit too ambitious. The game will not ship in August of 2026. It's been a year this month since the early access release of Aviassembly. Development has been a bit inconsistent, so I want to bring some more structure to it and start pushing towards the full release. I'll be doing monthly updates from now on, with the full release planned for August this year. In this post, I'll lay out the future of Aviassembly in a bit more detail. The updates will primarily be focused on what I believe to be Aviassembly’s biggest shortcoming: the game is too short and not very replayable. Please let me know if the list below is missing any features or changes you think are essential. April: Physics Aviassembly's physics have always been designed with accessibility and simplicity as a priority over simulation depth. This means there will always be a c…
- Small patch - 5 March 2026
There is an issue where the screen suddenly turns white when flying a helicopter. This is the second attempt to fix it, because the previous attempt didn't work. Please let me know if it occurs for you. I also made the helicopter landing gear stronger.
- Tiny patch - 4 March 2026
There was a weird crash where the screen turns white and the game crashes. I hope that this patch will fix the issue. Let me know if it doesn't.
- Update 5: Helicopters - 3 March 2026
This update introduces a much requested and anticipated addition: Helicopters! I hope this update will enable many creative designs and make new creative solutions possible in the campaign. Vertical flight physicsHelicopters require functioning vertical flight physics and controls, a system that has been completely reworked. This rework benefits all aircraft with vertical flight capabilities, not just helicopters. Designs featuring vertical takeoff, balloons, and other vertical flight mechanics should now perform significantly better. My hope is that this will enable much more creative designs. Helicopter parts I added 5 helicopter parts, including 2 helicopter cockpits and 3 helicopter engines. They all prioritize being lightweight, which is essential for helicopters. Helicopter airportsTo make helicopters valuable in the campaign, I added 4 boats to the map that you can land on and co…
- Small patch - 24 December 2025
Fixed not being able to respawn at the current base in snow and desert
- Update 4 - 23 December 2025
This update focuses on reworking the flight UI. It’s not the biggest or most exciting part of the game, but while I’m brainstorming bigger changes, I felt this update was needed. General UI redesign The original flight mode UI was a bit improvised and rushed. It was inconsistent with the build mode UI and felt cluttered. This update addresses those issues with a full redesign. Unnecessary elements are now hidden dynamically, and smoother animations have been added to improve the overall experience. Speed and Altitude Meters The new UI includes speed and altitude meters inspired by real flight instruments. The speed meter now shows both knots and mach, and neither meter maxes out at 9999 anymore. The throttle has been redesigned vertically to resemble an actual plane throttle more closely. In-Game Settings A highly requested feature was the ability to access settings while ingame. This u…
- Small patch - 20 November 2025
Fixed Two birds, one stone triggering when you only make a single delivery Fixed second turbine mission triggering before earthquake Fixed cargo not being saved correctly
- Update 3 - 18 November 2025
After a long wait, the 3rd update to Aviassembly is finally here! I hope to release updates more quickly from now on. Achievements This update finally adds Steam achievements to the game. There are 11 achievements now, but I plan to add more in later updates. Let me know if you have any ideas or feedback! Campaign improvements The feedback I received most often was that the game is too short. I wanted to address this, but the tools for editing the campaign were very limiting, especially if I wanted to keep old saves compatible. I decided to completely rework those tools, but it ended up being quite a lot of work. However, I now have much more flexibility when editing the campaign, and I can also maintain multiple versions, which is useful for backward compatibility. I used these tools to add 3 new small islands you can find in the map. One island is a shipwreck, another a hermit island,…
- Important security update - 15 October 2025
Aviassembly was developed using the Unity game engine. Unity recently announced a security vulnerability affecting some versions of the engine. This patch should address the issue. You can read more about it here: https://unity.com/security/sept-2025-01To quote the blog above: "There is no evidence of any exploitation of the vulnerability nor has there been any impact on users or customers." So as far as I know, there is no need to worry, But: Please update your game to the latest version!
- Update delayed - 14 October 2025
Hi everyone,It’s been a few months since my last update, and I had planned to release a new one today, as I mentioned on Discord and the Steam forums.Unfortunately, I encountered some unexpected issues that need more time to resolve. Rather than releasing an unstable build, I’ve decided to delay the update. It may take a few weeks before the full update is ready. I realize this delay is longer than hoped, and I want to sincerely apologize. In the meantime, you can still try the latest changes by switching to the experimental branch on Steam. To do this, right-click the game in your Steam library, select Properties, go to the Betas tab, and choose the experimental branch from the dropdown menu. What I’ve been working onThe most requested feature was adding more missions to extend the campaign and playtime. But unfortunately, this was difficult to do with the tools I had, especially if I wa…
