  • TBAS Study Pro v1.3.6 - Directional Orientation Visual Overhaul - 16 May 2026

What's New:The Directional Orientation test has been visually overhauled to better match the real TBAS/ASTB.What Are You Talking About?:I recently receive feedback that the Directional Orientation test in TBAS Study Pro was so visually different from the real TBAS that it was causing users trouble when taking the real thing. Obviously, this was unacceptable. A user was kind enough to link me to a research paper detailing the visual design of the real TBAS (Coyne et al (2020) The Use of non-spatial strategies in the Direction Orientation Task. Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, Volume 64 Issue 1, p. 802-806). Using the research paper as a reference, I've done my best to recreate the visual appearance of the Directional Orientation test. Now all users can go into the real TBAS/ASTB better prepared!Adjustments and Bug Fixes Shipped to MacOS:I finally ha…

  • (WINDOWS ONLY) TBAS v1.3.5c - Adjustments and Bug Fixes - 13 March 2026

Adjustments - In response to popular user feedback:Terrain ID: The opacity of the Terrain ID test compass buttons can now be adjusted allowing for them to be translucent.Multitask Test - Dial Subtest: You are now only awarded points when the dial is in motion. You accrue points slowly when the dial is in the Green, and quickly when it is in the Yellow.Aircraft Tracking Test - Horizontal Tracking Test: The "Pedal" cursor must now overlap with the main body of the aircraft rather than just the wingtip to award points. This will make the horizontal tracking test much more difficult than it was before.Bug Fixes - Aircraft Tracking Subtests:Dichotic Listening Subtest (Navy Assessment Mode): Fixed a non-critical bug wherein if a perfect score is achieved, it displays that score as "100/99" rather than the intended "99/99". A perfect score now displays "99/99" as intended.Emergency Subtest: Fi…

  • (WINDOWS ONLY) TBAS v1.3.5b - Navy/ASTB Emergency Test Input Hotfix - 8 February 2026

BUG FIXES:An issue with the Navy/ASTB "Emergency" Aircraft Tracking submode was introduced in the previous update whereby inputs that cause the Fuel/Power gauge dials to "Snap" to a color (e.g. Yellow or Red) would not properly register in the program. "Knob"-type inputs that gradually move the dial positions up and down instead of via a "Snapping" behavior would still work fine, for the most part. In the Windows OS version of TBAS Study Pro, this issue is now fixed.Additionally, there was an issue whereby the "Reset" Emergency mode indicator on the screen would only flash red for a single frame upon the "Reset" input being pressed, but it now flashes for as long as the "Reset" input is being held, as was originally intended.NOTE: This fix is for the Windows version of TBAS Study Pro only, as I am currently on a work trip until May and have no access to my development Macbook. The only…

  • TBAS v1.3.5 - Leaderboards Percentile Scoring, and Other Changes - 6 October 2025

A small update this time.New Percentile Scoring System:Per user request, the online Leaderboards screen now features a "Percentile Scoring" system that shows you what percentile you've scored in compared to your peers, in addition to the usual ranking system. The closer your score is to 99, the better!Minor Changes:The Dichotic Listening Test has been changed so that the voices speak in your left and right ears simultaneously, as opposed to the previous system whereby they alternated instead. The "Pause" button now has binding options for gamepads and joysticks. To prevent soft-locking, the Keyboard "Pause" button is still permanently locked to the "ESCAPE" key, but the new binding options for the gamepads and joysticks are unrestricted,Major Unity Vulnerability Patched:Three days ago, Unity (the game engine TBAS Study Pro is built with) released a notification that ALL old versions of U…

  • TBAS v1.3.4 Hotfix / Thrustmaster T. Flight Rudder Pedals (TFRP) - WINDOWS ONLY - 24 June 2025

Only one, major fix this time: after a hefty amount of spelunking through Unity documentation, help forums, and tinkering in the game engine, the Thrustmaster T. Flight Rudder Pedals are now supported NATIVELY (out-of-the-box) in TBAS Study Pro. At long last, the previous guide for configuring the TARGET software to get the pedals to work is now OBSOLETE and UNNECESSARY. Unfortunately, this fix is only applicable for PC/Windows systems. I still cannot figure out how to get the pedals (with the USB adapter dongle) to register in MacOS.New Process for Binding the TFRP Pedals:There is a quirk that is worth noting... they work "Out-of-the-box", but ONLY out of the box. You cannot bind the pedals like you would bind any other device. If you have previously bound any other input for the pedals, you must click the "RESET" button beside the Joystick "Pedal" input to get it reset it back to the…

  • TBAS v1.3.3 / Critical Aircraft Tracking Bug Fixes - Multitasking Dial Change - 8 May 2025

Critical Bug Fix Fixed a critical bug whereby certain users cannot interact with the Aircraft Tracking UI without first disconnecting their HOTAS and reloading the software Changes Added "No Controller Assigned" advisory if users attempt to run a Aircraft Tracking test subcomponent with no controller assigned to that subcomponent in the Rebind Menu Added formatting lines to the Aircraft Tracking Test Rebind Menu to make it less visually confusing, as well as red text that better explains that a test subcomponent will only work with the explicitly user-assigned controller Resetting the dial in the Dial test subcomponent in the Multitasking Test now adds 2 points to your score rewarding users for resetting the dial at the "Last Second", more in line with the behavior in the real TBAS

  • TBAS Study Pro v1.3.2 / Invert Toggles for Emergency Test - 7 May 2025

Details The Emergency Test component "Fuel" and "Power" inputs now have toggles in the Pause Menu that allow the user to invert the direction that the dials move when those inputs are pressed. If a user has a controller with good rockers/sliders/switches for use with the "Fuel" and "Power" inputs, but the default behavior of those rockers/sliders/switches is to send a signal to TBAS Study Pro that moves the "Fuel" and "Power" dials in the opposite direction that the user needs, they can now invert the input signal to get the behavior they need.

  • TBAS Study Pro v1.3.1 / Hotfix for leaderboard updates - 30 March 2025

Fixes New scores would occasionally fail to upload to the new online leaderboards. Scores should always update now. Leaderboard scores would not upload if you only had one save-file, but that is no longer the case. Verbiage in the Stats menu UI has been adjusted to be more consistent.

  • NEW: Online Leaderboards - v1.3 Update - 27 March 2025

Through the use of the Steam API, Online Leaderboards are now available for TBAS Study Pro. The Online Leaderboard is accessible either from the Main Menu or the Stats Menu, and lets users compare their performance to their peers. If you ever wanted to know how your performance measures up to the national community, now you can know! Have a really good score in your save files, and you don't want to go through the effort of running a new assessment to place yourself on the leaderboard? Don't worry! When you select a category in the Online Leaderboard screen, your top score from that category is immediately loaded from your system files to the leaderboards. In other words: if it's available in your Stats screen, it'll be loaded to the Leaderboards! Left-hand Side Selections: USAF TBAS: Shows results for the highest overall USAF (TBAS) Assessment scores. This is the default selection. NAV…

  • TBAS-v1.2.4 / X56 Throttle and Other Input Fixes - 25 March 2025

Fixes The following are fixes for the Aircraft Tracking test: The "Two Dimensional Throttle" Toggle (a compatibility setting for Logitech X56 HOTAS Throttles) in the Rebind Menu had broken in a previous update, and has now been fixed. New controller bindings set in the Rebind Menu had failed to take effect until the Aircraft Tracking test was restarted. Because I suspect this problem is with Unity's "Rebind" feature, I have a "Apply Settings Now?" pop-up that will appear when exiting out of the rebind menu. Pressing "Yes" will Restart the Aircraft Tracking portion of the test from the beginning, while selecting "No" will cause all changes to take effect whenever the test is reloaded. By default, the "Right Alt" key ("Right Option" key on Mac) is used to skip tutorial segments. There was a bug whereby if the "Right Alt" key was pressed during the "Emergency Test Tutorial" portion of the…

  • TBAS v1.2.3 / Removing Controller Autoswitching - 10 March 2025

Changes In the previous update I had re-added auto-switching for controller inputs allowing players to control TBAS Study Pro "out of the box" (without needing to fiddle with the rebinding menu), allowing Unity to automatically switch "active" input to be whatever controller was sending signals to the computer. However, I was contacted about an issue from multiple users where certain controllers would provide a continuous input to Unity (e.g. stick drift) regardless of user intent, thereby interfering with alternative/intentional user input. This frustrated users, and I don't want users to have to play the "deduction-game" on what controller is interfering with their intended input the first time they boot up the program. Because of this, I have removed input auto-switching again, but this time the UI in the Aircraft Tracking test has been rearranged to more specifically guide users to…

  • TBAS Study Pro v1.2.2 Patch / Changes to Dichotic Listening and Emergency - 5 March 2025

Changes Dichotic Listening Test target ear now alternates between left and right during the test. Dichotic Listening Test "Even" and "Odd" inputs can now be triggered from two different controllers via new "Manual Rebinding" options Emergency Test "Power", "Fuel", and "Reset" inputs can now be triggered from multiple different controllers via new "Manual Rebinding" options Emergency Test "Power" and "Fuel" inputs can now be set to be an "Axis" (such as a dial) or "Positive/Negative" (one button for "down", another button for "up") style inputs. Fixes In the previous update, the tweaked save file system I instituted turned out to cause the program to crash after 18 assessment sessions. This has been fixed. Without "Manual Rebinding" toggled, the program should automatically detect the controller that the current player intends to use by which controller is currently sending inputs to the…

  • TBAS Study Pro v1.2.1 Patch / Minor Changes - 20 January 2025

Fix: Fixed a graphical bug with the Terrain Identification subtest that made visible the rest of the "zoomed-in" map on the right hand-side of the screen during practicing and tutorials. Minor Changes: The "Dial" component in the Multitasking subtest will no longer have its hidden "Time Until Movement" timer reset upon being clicked unless it has already started moving. The "Next"/"Tutorial Skip" button can be pressed twice to fully skip Tutorials in the Aircraft Tracking subtest without requiring the user to click the "Go"/"Next" button with a mouse.

  • NEW: Terrain Identification Subtest - v1.2 Update - 16 January 2025

Terrain Identification Subtest (Navy/ASTB-E/PBMB) Within 35 seconds, find the compass-orientation of a UAV looking down at terrain below by comparing the terrain in its point-of-view with a North-oriented map on the left-hand side of the screen Having trouble getting the hang of things? Try the comprehensive tutorial anytime to refresh yourself on the problem-solving process Are you practicing, and you're not sure why some of your answers are showing as "WRONG"? Check the Terrain Identification "Pause" menu to compare your previous selection with the previous correct answer Want to practice the PBMB part of the ASTB-E as if you were taking the real thing? The Navy Assessment mode is now updated to include a "Assessment Mode" version of the Terrain Identification subtest Minor Changes New "Stats" Menu Save File Delete Buttons: Previous assessment save files in the "Stats" menu can now be…

  • HOTFIX - Rebind Fix / Added support for Thrustmaster T.16000M Throttle - 10 November 2024

Small bug fixes: A new Unity update caused controller rebinds to not take effect until the "Level" was reloaded. I was unable to find a workaround for this so I simply made it so that when you exit the "Rebind" menu that the Aircraft Tracking "Level" restarts. It's a little annoying but at least now there should be no confusion as to why controller rebindings do not immediately take effect. Support for the Thrustmaster T.16000M Throttle has been added There was a small chance that the Directional Orientation test would display the pause menu incorrectly. That has now been fixed.

  • Small Update - Added support for the Logitech Pro Flight X56 Rhino Throttle - 27 August 2024

Just a small update this week: Main Addition - Per user-request, added support explicitly for the Logitech Pro Flight X56 Rhino HOTAS throttle controller. By default, TBAS Study Pro looks for "Slider"-type inputs when binding throttle controllers, but the X56 Rhino Throttle controller features a "2D Axis"-type input that TBAS Study Pro previously did not support. A "Toggle 2-Dimensional Throttle Inputs" toggle has been added beside the "Throttle" joystick input rebind button to allow for users using throttle controllers with a "2D Axis" input. Minor Bug Fix - A bug affecting the functionality of the new controller-UI navigation toggle in the settings has also been fixed (see the previous update post for more information).

  • HOTFIX - Added Toggle in Main Menu Settings for UI Navigation Using Controllers - 17 August 2024

Added settings toggle to the Main Menu for enabling/disabling UI navigation via controllers (gamepads, throttles, and joysticks). Controller UI navigation is now "Off" by default, meaning users will only be able to use Mouse and Keyboard to navigate menus unless they explicitly choose to enable the UI navigation using controllers feature. This should prevent the issues whereby players will have a Throttle or some other kind of input device plugged in that will send UI navigation commands to TBAS Study Pro, overriding UI input from the mouse and keyboard (which users are much more likely to be using), and make for a better user experience.

  • TBAS v1.1.1 Bugfixes / Minor Changes - 3 April 2024

Fixes: Inputs did not work for the Emergency Test. Inputs should now work again. 2/3rds of the input rebinding screen "Reset" buttons did not work. Their functionality has been restored Some of the inputs on the input rebinding screen did not reset when "Reset" or "Reset All" buttons were pressed. They should now operate properly. Minor Changes: Per user request, an option to skip tutorials has been added, and is by default bound to the "R ALT" Key, the "North" button on Gamepads, and the "Next" button ("Button 14") on the Thrustmaster HOTAS X Full Kit joystick. An option to rebind this hotkey has also been added in the rebinding screen. "Command" button icons have been added for MAC users

  • MacOS 10.12+ Support Is Now Live! - 15 March 2024

After receiving several requests for TBAS Study Pro MacOS support I purchased a Mac and converted the Windows TBAS Study Pro v1.1 release to work on MacOS. The MacOS version should contain all of the features present in the Windows version. I'm still largely unfamiliar with MacOS, but like I've done on the Windows release I will do my best to address and troubleshoot any issues that may crop up on the MacOS release. Please do not hesitate to post in the Community tab or in the TBAS Study Pro Discord any bug discoveries (so I can fix them) or feature suggestions (so I can implement them). Thank you all for your support!

  • v1.08.1 - Inverted Controls Hotfix and Score Cap Text - 5 February 2024

Due to a change in the way inputs were handled in the new update, the "Uninvert" button lost functionality. It has now been restored. Additionally, due to a user request, most scores now display with the score cap (e.g. "37/99") to more explicitly indicate to the user what the score cap is in all instances. If any further issues arise I will continue to ship hotfixes. Thank you all for your support!
