- Permanent Price Discount - 30 April 2025
Hello everyone, I am issuing a permanent reduction and dropping the price by four dollars (or around that in your local currency). This is for price parity with the Switch release. I did not announce this in advance as that is the requirement with regular sales discounts. Thank you for your understanding.

- Major Update! Story! - 4 March 2025
The 1.30 update is pretty chunky. Its headline feature is the story! It’s admittedly coming in a bit late, but now you’ll bump into other characters as you descend the dungeon and glean a little bit more about them and their relationships. It also adds a lot more content through events, spells, badges, and keywords. As well as just little polish changes to make it clearer what is going on. !! Warning !! This update makes changes to how dungeons are generated, so any in-progress runs from the previous patch will be incompatible and not load. I can only apologise for this inconvenience. The good news is this might not happen again! See the bottom of the post for more information. Story Now there will be story sequences at certain points in the game, such as when resting at camps or visiting shops. I don’t want to go into too much detail here, but I think they’re fun and make everything fe…
- v1.30 Beta Access - 24 February 2025
Hello, it’s been a while since I posted an update but I have a pretty big one: You can play it! To opt into a beta right click Witching Stone in your Library, select Properties, then Betas, and then in Beta Participation pick “v130 beta.” I don’t have a Steam Deck so I cannot tell you the process there, but I imagine you press similar things. Jumping between branches shouldn’t be a problem for your main data, but in-progress runs will be incompatible. Simplified Chinese isn't fully supported yet, but it will be for the actual launch. To set some expectations: everything is implemented and either localised or out for localisation, and I’m hopefully not going to be changing too much outside of bug fixes. Please use this thread if you notice any problems. I’m also going to drop the full patch notes here ahead of time. But I will repost them when I set this as the main branch (which might b…
- v1.30 Development Log: Chunky Changes - 30 January 2025
Hello, since the last one was well received, I’m doing another development log on what's coming up. Last time I talked about some of the gameplay changes and teased some mechanics so this time it's going a bit more meta. Story It’s nice if every major patch has a headliner and for this one it’s that we are adding more story. Or, to be less charitable, adding story. It’s probably a stronger angle than "I added some Spells to those characters you don’t have unlocked" but more on that later, too. While I really like the characters in Witching Stone, their personality is conveyed only through their visual designs and Spells. I think, on the whole, they feel like vectors for gameplay mechanics rather than real people with thoughts in their heads. This isn’t because I am a mechanics purist who doesn’t want the story getting in the way of the gameplay! It’s because I cannot good write. I dropp…
- v1.30 Development Log: New Content - 19 January 2025
Hello, I am working away on the next update. Things probably won’t line up for a release until late February but I will try to do another experimental branch so people can help kick the tyres - that was very helpful last time! Until then, I figured I should keep you updated with what I'm working on. Postmortem But before that, I wrote a postmortem a few months after release. This is hosted on my Patreon but I just needed somewhere to put it, really. Witching Stone Postmortem It’s worth a look if you’re interested in the game, what went well and what went badly. And yes, it contains how much money I made - that seems to be the main thing people are interested in! Anyway, let’s move onto the new stuff. Content Goals What I want to do for this next update is bring everybody up to sixteen Spells per main act for a total of 48 (except Pwca, of course), as well as about 24 Badges per act. I h…
- 1.20.5 Hot Fix - 13 January 2025
This is a hotfix for a crash, the engine incident, and some minor fixes. Fixed a crash when Scrying with some Modifiers enabled Fixed a crash when hitting the inventory button while entering combat Ceridwen's Engine spell is no longer considered a safe starting spell for Daily Challenges Spells with Repeat will not recast if they lose the keyword If Pristine fails it will try a best fit instead of restarting Evasion no longer prevents entity status effects from applying Thanks for playing! There is a more substantial update in the works!
- Update! Event Shops - 27 November 2024
This v1.20.4 update adds a new map location, enemies, modifiers and some general tweaks and interface improvements. Note if you have a run in progress it won't be compatible with the new generation. So, I am sorry about that. Event Shop A shop with a chance to show up. Each run there will be at least one placed on floors 1-3 where you can find weird badges or randomised spells to buy. Note that they are not Pwca’s shop, with the little acorn icon, and are therefore not affected by the same Modifiers. Cursed Badges The game now features cursed badges that must be equipped once they are in your inventory. There’s only a couple of these as they could potentially be quite annoying. New Enemies Added a new boss and some extra enemies to each of the main three acts. New Modifiers and That Secret Quest There are some more modifiers for events, cursed badges and the Resilient status effect ment…
- Witching Stone v1.13 - 24 October 2024
Hello, I’m using version numbers now. This is another small update that fixes bugs and adds some clarity Magic Shell This mechanic has been tripping up a few people so I have tried to make it clearer. Enemy intent tooltip will not obscure the cast sequence if it exists When the status effect is gained, the stone sequence animates in The stone sequence shows cast progress similar to Spells Bug Fixes Fixed a bug where Pwca with the extra Spell modifier did not get the full loot selection in Act 4 Fixed a bug where modifiers that increase enemy health and damage applied to player summons Fixed a bug where Drosera would sometimes activate even if cleared with a Spell Fixed a bug where stone status effects would sometimes inherit scaling from their owner Fixed a bug where opening the inventory while moving could lock you in movement state forever. Also, trying to access the inventory while m…
- Daily Challenge Hotfix - 17 October 2024
Hello, just pushed a small update that prevents Blodeuwedd getting assigned spells she cannot immediately cast for her Daily Challenge starters.
- Minor Bug Fix - 10 October 2024
Hello, I pushed out a little update to address some bugs: "Shop sells items from the next Act" modifier now hopefully works as intended. Spells that apply a status effect to a limited number of stones within a group will indicate the exact number (Ex: Adds Freecast to 2x Daggers) Decay keyword now applies to scaling effects (ex: Earthquake, Battenberg) In-combat sequences that change the game speed will restore it a bit sooner. Purchased items now leave behind a slightly different graphic When summoned Blodeuwedd will pick the first empty slot and won’t cause entities to move I also made one little balance change because I couldn’t help myself: Chance for a shop item to be form another character increased from 15% to 33% Note: As a result of the shop modifier fix and shop item chance increase, the game will generate different loot tables from the same random seed. This means is loading…
- Update! Challenges And Characters - 5 October 2024
Daily Challenges! Each day there is a Daily Challenge where everyone gets to take on the same run. This will decide the character, starting spells, modifiers and dungeon layout. Starting spells are non-standard, all badges will be considered unlocked for consistency, and each run is +2 rank. This isn’t meant as a fierce competition and there are no scores or attempt limits (although you’re free to self-impose!). It is a daily dose and a chance to try something a little bit different. This has prompted a bit of rewrite and modifier shake up. So I have also added some more modifiers, removed some duds, and rebalanced some existing ones. The Gang's All Here Although they are somewhat cryptic, the quests to unlock the fourth, fifth and sixth characters are no longer hidden. For clarity, these extra 3 characters have been playable from launch providing the player completed certain hidden que…
- Quick Fix - 19 September 2024
Hello, just pushed a small patch to fix a couple of issues: Fixed a bug where scrying a boss with an innate status effect could result in a crash Fixed a bug where damage tagged with True Strike would not proc Vulnerable Thanks for your support so far. It means a lot!
- Release Date! - 27 August 2024
Hello everyone! The game now has a release date: 16th September, 2024! I have also pushed an update for the demo to bring it back into alignment with the main development branch. Thank you for your support!
- Demo Available - 17 May 2024
The Witching Stone Demo is now available on Steam. That’s here! It is the first act of the game with two of the main characters. There are some caveats, things will change during development, but for better or worse I think it represents what you will be getting yourself into in the final game. It contains some meta-progression unlocks, but these can be skipped in options if you’re not into that kind of thing. If you’re the kind of person who likes to do streams, videos or vines. Or you just want some stuff. There is a bunch of high definition art here.
