Afterplace has now been translated into Brazilian Portuguese, thanks to the wonderful Iury Matos!

  • V1.2.21: Perspective Fix - 17 February 2026

It appears that Japanese characters did not display correctly when the game shifts perspective. This is now fixed! (My apologies for any Japanese players who reached the end of the game and were very confused!)

  • v1.2.19: Purple Squares - 5 August 2025

Here we are again. Changing the font also changed the little "next" arrow on the description dialogs to a purple square. But only if there is no background present, which is why I didn't see it up until now. I'm going to go make children's books or something. Those can't get bugs, right? Right?? Also since I'm here, I updated the whole underlying Unity Engine, because why not. I also made Coffee work better, because I keep seeing people use it and not even realize that coffee does something, which is a pretty big sign. If you are running around postgame, this should help you quite a bit. Changelog: Coffee makes you run faster now. Fixed description text sometimes showing a little purple box Updated to Unity 2022, which should fix some graphical and fps issues. Fixed Joxxi scene post Librarian teleport not playing Fixed music transitions sometimes not synching Player can now access the i…

  • v1.2.18: I broke trees - 9 July 2025

If you want to know what it's like to be a game dev, by recent update changing the font of the game somehow removed all the trees in the Surreal area with the deer. How does changing a font do this? The world may never know. I mean, well, I know now. But I think not explaining it makes it funnier, so we're going to leave it at that. Enjoy other great features such as: Partners no longer stop you from hitting flamingos Fixed non-Latin character alignment Added broader text scaling Thanks all!

  • v1.2.17: Here We Are Again - 17 June 2025

So that didn't work. Text in Afterplace is a convoluted affair. The little text bubble text is not actually a Unity "text box". It's actually a series of little images of each letter, and custom code draws them out in a sequence to make words. Wait, no, I just described a text box. Okay but this one was made by me! And it's cooler, because the little pixel letters stay pixel perfect with the rest of the game world. And also one brand of phones kept crashing when I used Unity text boxes. There are reasons, I promise. Anyways, I tried initially to do the same with... all 19,434 characters in LanaPixel, the new font for non-Latin Afterplace text. And... that seems to have created problems. Somehow the little pictures got offset from the characters they were told to represent. This was, by no ambiguity, a bad way to handle this situation. But I have now learned that, and have replaced it w…

  • v1.2.16: Refonted - 12 June 2025

So last update was great, but also incredibly dumb. Great because a lot of folks were very excited to see that custom translations could be made for Afterplace now. Which was great! Dumb because the font in Afterplace only supported latin characters. So half the people making translations were kind of just. Stuck. Whoops. Luckily, there are wonderful people out there making pixel fonts that support every language under the sun, and after a lot of hard lessons about how font files are made, I have managed to combine the look of the original Latin characters in Afterplace with a font that supports basically every other character out there. Except maybe Webdings. So! For you now, the actual custom translation update, now with actual ability to translate! To Languages! (Plus a bunch of other fixes and things, of course). Official Changelog: Added support for non-latin characters in game t…

  • 1.2.15: Now in Custom! - 21 February 2025

Okay, so I'm really excited about this one. Afterplace now supports custom dialog files, and will export and import custom dialogs in the settings menu! While I'm a solo dev with limited resources, I understand that it can be frustrating to not be able to play a game in your own language. So, while I continue to work on official language supports, I've opened up the ability for the community to create and share their own translations (or toss the whole thing into an auto translator, your mileage may vary). Please note that I'm still working on support for all text and character fonts, but expect that in a future update soon. I've also fixed a ton of small bugs, including Minno showing up in the wrong place after important events happen, and some small visuals to point players in the right direction of some content. The full changelog is below. Thanks everyone! Changelog: Added abili…

  • Afterplace: Now in Spanish! - 25 November 2024

Afterplace is now available in Spanish! Our wonderful translator has combed through all 10,665 lines of dialog in Afterplace to create a faithful localization. Thank you, Eric! You can select your language in the settings menu, and on first boot, the game will try to pick a best language based on your device's locale. Some other fixes: Fixed coins in the mushroom woods sometimes not being collective. Text descriptions now stay on the screen a little better. Fixed how and when the troll becomes a cashier. Fixed the infinite train area sometimes breaking. Fixed librarian occasionally dropping player off the stone pedestal. Dialog visuals (like maps) now always center on the camera. Fixed sword head repeating himself during the tiny golem scene. Fixed a bunch of English typos our translator found while translating. Fixed player being able to pause during name select screen. Happy exploring!

  • WASD, Mystery Prices, Elevators, and Wheat - 4 October 2024

I'm a very simple person. When I play computer games, I like to press the little keys with the arrows that point in the direction my character will go. It's charming in a way. I have found that I might be in the minority on this. But, behold, dear player, I have made a configuration to please the masses! Now both Arrow Keys and WASD work by default, with the roll and attack keys sitting in such a way that you can play the game one-handed OR two handed with WASD, or two-handed with arrow keys (I suppose you could play one-handed with arrow keys, if you happen to have tentacle fingers. If so, good for you). This is of course, all still remappable, but I feel this default will be a smoother ride for everyone. You can of course remap both movement key sets now, if you so desire. I also fixed some issues where rebindings would occasionally not catch until the whole settings menu closed. Othe…

  • Multi Platform Madness - 6 September 2024

Found out that if players clicked through the initial intro text with the mouse, the movement tutorial would switch back to touch. Because in the eyes of the steam deck, mouse is touch. Welp. It's fixed now. Also, still trying to fine-tune audio balances everywhere. Phone speakers are small and have terribly bass, so all the audio in the game had originally been boosted absurdly to counteract this. I did not correct for the very nice headphones everyone plays pc games with. Apologies for the ear bleed, hopefully it's fully corrected after this round. Some small things - using an item no longer also swings your sword, changed what keyboard keys are shown for some tutorials, added whole new dialog lines because I have watch several streamers do some interesting sequence breaks I did not expect. Finally, I'm getting the game set up for localization now. This includes ensuring every piece o…

  • Better Ear Vibrations - 10 August 2024

Yes, those are important. So it turns out that Unity doesn't play too terribly nice with UI sliders and controllers. The music and sfx settings went from "loud" to "inaudible" in about one dpad tick. Which is bad. So I rebalanced the sliders to have a little more fidelity than that. Also, the initial "talk" sfx right at the start of the game was a little abrasive, I toned it down. Some additional updates: - You can now toggle cursor visibility in the settings. Just in case you want to... use the touch controls, but with a mouse? Please don't do this. Really this is just for if you want to click ui things with your mouse. Forget I mentioned the other thing. - Fixed the relic area foreground trees disappearing if you do the whole dungeon then go back again for seconds - Fixed Joxxi talking over an item gain in the library - Fixed Clover doubling up on dialog when talking about the axe - F…

  • Sequence breaks? In MY open world game? - 30 July 2024

It's more common than you think. Evidently you could make Minno disappear if you said No when they tried to follow you into the nightmare woods, then went back into town and completed all their quests anyways. The good news is, the fix should be retroactive, so anyone experiencing this will get a fresh new Minno! Also fixed a hint Joxxi tries to give you near the end of the game triggering even when it was not relevant (leading to much confusion for a poor streamer I watched, sorry!) Finally, made the occasional glimpses of the traveling merchant in the blue woods less... occasional. If you are having a hard time finding their house, try stalking them! It's definitely a good and moral thing to do. And that's it! Less bugs is good, and honestly I'm surprised that there haven't been more sequence breaks due to all the weird ordering you can do things in. But really, thank the mobile playe…

  • I'm a sucker for a good accessibility setting. - 26 July 2024

Someone mentioned that disabling screen flash would be a good thing to have. And how could I not? It's one checkbox. Also, watched a streamer fall out of an area and also there were some tutorials that didn't disappear sometimes. So those are fixed too. Also fixed a bug where Joxxi playground scene could break the whole game if player quit in the middle of it. Good day overall.

  • Since I'm already up at 1am - 25 July 2024

Made the screen resolution dropdown work better with controller.

  • Day one bug fix two: electric boogaloo - 25 July 2024

Fixed some odd Joystick drift on Mac builds.

  • V1.2.8 Update - 24 July 2024

Hello everyone. Despite my best efforts to avoid it, here's the day one patch: By popular demand, I've switched which face buttons Attack and which Roll. B and X buttons now roll, allowing you to shift between A/X and B/Y based on your preferences. Fixed Dodge Roll sometimes not going in the correct direction on controllers. The inventory and dialog tutorial now show the easier button to use (right bumper, instead of select) Fixed connection issues with the Send Error Report feature in settings.
