- The Bounty of the Waters - 24 April 2026
Hello Warriors and Shield Maidens! Fishing was the lifeblood of the Norse folk, especially in coastal communities. Drawn from cold seas and winding rivers, it was a reliable source of food. Preserved by drying or salting, fish could last through long, harsh winters and ocean voyages, and became valuable trade goods. In the rugged Steineyjar archipelago, fishing is not a pastime. Whether you sail out or cast from the riverbank, the unmistakable redfish will become the taste of home for you and your people. But the waters hold more than the familiar. Deeper below, more elusive creatures wait.Fear has no place here. Sail out, descendant of Björn the Fearless, and show the gods you are worthy of his legacy. Beyond Safe WatersPush further past the familiar coastline, into open waters where the sea turns darker, deeper, and far less forgiving. It is there you will find rare fish and prized ing…
- From Workbench to Shipyard - 26 March 2026
Nothing comes easy in the Vikings Dynasty. You start with little. Cold ground, rough tools, and a prayer for the gods to be in your favor. However, from simple materials and a steady routine, a settlement takes shape. One that can stand on its own.And it all comes down to crafting. WorkshopJust as any good journey, this one also begins at a workbench. The workbench is the first place you rely on to turn basic materials into tools and the foundations of survival. In these moments, every crafted item matters - even the simplest ones.Woodcutter's HutOne of the main resources that will be with you from the very beginning is wood. Utilise the dense north forests around you! Wood tested by the harsh weather will soon become the skeleton of every building you raise and the fire that will warm you during the long nights. SmithyThe heat and the ring of metal on metal is an unmistakeable sign of th…
- First Steps on Northern Shores - 27 February 2026
Hello Warriors and Shield Maidens!Although the northern sea did not show you mercy, you are still alive. You awaken on a rocky shore - your ship has vanished into the depths of the sea. Yet this is not the end of your journey. It is its beginning. In this difficult moment, you are not entirely alone. Among the survivors is Snorri - a skald known across the Steineyjar archipelago. His songs have filled longhouses and taverns alike. Now fate has brought you together on the same rocky shore. The island also conceals places steeped in memories of ancient times and the secrets of the past. One of them lies on a nearby hill. It is worth visiting before you continue onward. For what is a Viking without his boat? Yours rests at the bottom of the sea, and without a new one, you will not sail toward your destiny. It is time to take fate into your own hands. Repairing a discovered wreck will be th…

- Honoring the Gods - 28 November 2025
Hello Warriors and Shield Maidens, Today, we want to touch on a slightly different topic in Viking culture. The relationship of the people to the gods and the meaning behind offerings. The Norse worldview of that time was built on the principle of exchange, a bond of loyalty that governed relationships between people and even more so between humans and gods. Honoring the gods through offerings was a vital expression of devotion, gratitude, and divine favor. By giving gifts like valuables, animals, or the symbolic sharing of a feast, the Vikings believed they were honoring the gods, while expecting them to give something back in return in various forms. The Norse circle of gods was believed to have an impact on every aspect of daily life, from weather to warfare, from fortune to fertility, and everything in between. This cycle of ‘do ut des’, which could be roughly explained as “I give,…

- Artisans In The World Of Vikings - 13 November 2025
Hello Warriors and Shield Maidens, What do you think of when you hear the term „Viking“? Conquerors? Seafarers? Fighters? All of it is true. Not to mention their family bonds, which seem to be second to none. But especially the images of warriors overshadow a more basic truth: the Viking society rests on the foundation of artisans. The shipwright, for example, is a master engineer who crafted the iconic longships, thus unlocking the world beyond the horizon and, with that, enabling long-range exploration, trade, and raids. Equally vital was the blacksmith, who in a quite alluring way mixed soot and mystique. With raw power as well as finesse, he was able to transform ore into essential farming tools or formidable weapons. Without artisans like these, the Age of Vikings, marked by mobility as well as ingenuity and battle might, would have been quite limited. Some would even go as far as…
- Welcome to Viking Society - 30 October 2025
Hello Vikings and Shield Maidens, Today, we want to invite you to a typical Viking village, often marked with -by as a suffix for its name. The settlement was more than just a mere collection of buildings or farms. It is the foundation of Viking society as well as a source of identity, security, and sustenance. Even though their portrayal in pop culture might give you the impression, most Norsemen and their families were not raiders, but farmers, traders, and craftsmen, who were deeply rooted in their local community. The village provided not only safety, but also the base structure for daily life, such as organizing collective labor for building homes or managing the shared resources of the field, fjord, and forest. It is here, where traditions are passed down, where social bonds are forged, and the rhythm of nature is a vital part of existence, from sowing crops to seasonal feasts. Th…

- The Ink Of Destiny: Tattoos In Viking Culture - 25 September 2025
Hello Shield Maidens and Warriors, The image of a tattooed Viking has become a staple of modern popular culture from TV shows to movies to games. And not only dedicated tattoo fans are fascinated with the powerful symbols and intricate designs. While the historical meaning and even certainty of widespread tattooing among the Norse people is heavily debated in academic circles, the symbolic meaning of those designs is deeply rooted in verified Viking culture. One thing is for sure: If Vikings were tattooed, the ink would be way more than just decoration. It would be potentially a sign of protection (and as such similar to a rune engraved into a weapon), a story of their social status or even a connection to the gods. Primarily, the tattoos would have functioned as talismans of protection and a divine favor. In a world filled with giants and unpredictable forces, symbols and runes acted a…

- Meet Tarja - 17 July 2025
Hello Shield Maidens and Vikings, It is time to meet another character who can have a big impact on your adventure on Steineyjar Islands. In Viking culture, the unseen world was regarded as woven into everyday life. For them, this meant that gods, spirits and their ancestors could shape their fate and fortune. The outcome could be manipulated by other forces, though. Central to this were practitioners like the Völva (a kind of seeress), who sometimes travels from village to village, carries a staff and speaks in cryptic verses - not to mention that a Völva is proficient in magic. But not just any magic. The so-called seiðr can involve trances, future prophecies, weather influence or talking to spirits. For some cultures, this seemed like witchcraft, but for Vikings, this was a living tradition that was able to connect the community to the supernatural. One Völva you’ll meet on your jour…
- That’s a big one! - 14 June 2025
Hello Shield Maidens and Vikings While some think of Vikings mostly as explorers and fierce warriors, they were equally skilled seafarers and fishermen, making them masters of the seas and oceans. As a society naturally bonded to the sea, fishing and seafaring were not just practical necessities. They are vital aspects of Viking culture, economy, and identity, as you will find out once you start your journey in the Steineyjar Archipelago. The advanced shipbuilding techniques, which you eventually also will have access to, allowed them to build boats able to travel vast distances. The longships with their sturdy designs were not only used for raids, but also for peaceful trade. Fishing was equally important, since in Scandinavia’s unforgiving, harsh climate, it provided a reliable and sustainable food source. Salmon, herring, and cod were among the staples in their diet and could be pres…
- Being A Jarl - 30 May 2025
Hello shield maidens and Vikings! Last time we spoke to you, we introduced you to Freydis, the jarl of the harbor town of Kaldaborg in the fictitious Steineyjar Islands. But what does a jarl actually do? In a nutshell, a jarl is a leader, whose job is governing a territory, maintaining order, and ensuring the prosperity and safety of the people. The main responsibility of the jarl is governing. Think of it as a mixture of mayor and judge. The jarl enforces the common laws, settles disputes, and presides over local assemblies in order to maintain harmony among the citizens, which is crucial for stability and the general welfare of all. By taking care of the people and their needs, the jarl can secure their loyalty. Needs like safety and prosperity have a high priority, as you can imagine. Which in return means, the jarl has to make sure that the village is protected - also so trade can c…
- Meet Freydis - 15 May 2025
Hej shield maidens and Vikings, A few weeks back we introduced Snorri to you, the resident skald in the world of Vikings Dynasty. Today we want you to meet yet another important character on the Steineyjar Islands: Freydis, the female jarl of the archipelago. She will play a vital role in the personal journey of your hero or heroine and will also have the occasional quest waiting for you. When you eventually meet her, stay humble and pay your respect, for in the storm-lashed Steineyjar archipelago, where only the strongest will survive, she stands as a legend. A fierce warrior, a determined sailor and the current jarl of the port village of Kaldaborg. That she undisputedly is holding a position usually reserved for male leaders, should tell you more than enough about her resilience and unbreakable spirit. She is a seasoned traveller, journeying with her brother in her youth, before fate…
