- Update V 1.9.2 - Gameplay Enhancements + - 15 January 2025
Lots of new features for this update. BOTS & SPAWNERS HAVE HEALTH BARS Players can now see how much damage a bot has taken and how much health it has left. CUSTOMIZABLE CHARACTER COLOUR 12 colours to choose from. Player health bars, dead player ragdolls and player spawnable turrets will match the selected colour. IMPROVED BOT SPAWNER DEFENSES Bot Spawners will now detect if a player is in close range and emit a plasma shock wave to damage and repel the player. These shockwaves can also damage nearby bots, allowing the player to trigger them tactically. Frequency of shockwaves adjusts to player difficulty level. Shockwave graphic and sound effect added. Spawner defensive guns will now only rotate to face player if the spawner has recently taken significant damage. Use tactical retreats to trick spawners into switching off their targeting system. PRIMARY PLAYER TURRETS HAVE A.I. Player sp…
- V 1.9.1 – Better graphics and gameplay mechanics + - 30 November 2024
IMPROVED PLAYER CONTROLS Right stick no longer contributes to movement speed (Makes aiming easier when not in Aim Mode). Changes to button controls allow for easier use of Aim Mode, toggling of camera distance and player dash move. Updated player controls image in menus. DASH & BASH The player’s dash move will now cause explosion damage to enemies on impact, with a small amount of damage sometimes taken by the player. Useful if low on ammunition. Doesn’t damage other players during Co-op mode. AIM VIEW CAMERA IMPROVEMENT When the player enters Aim Mode the camera will offset itself from the player’s position to show a further range of the terrain ahead of them, but also reduces view of what is behind the player. The offset cancels itself if the player is close to a wall or other obstruction (prevents the camera moving outside of the arena walls). The distance of the offset also adjusts…
- V 1.9 - Enemy Variants + - 10 October 2024
ENEMY VARIANT RANDOMIZATION Most enemies (including some bosses) can now generate at least a half dozen variants, randomizing visual appearance and / or combat abilities. These include variations on: Physical size Health amount Number and types of weapon Combat range 3D model design Model textures Speed Jump height Other combat A.I. variants The full range of these variants is too much to list here. Play the game and you'll encounter over 100 variants. OTHER CHANGES INCLUDE: Players now have a directional arrow attached to them for clarity, this helps with aiming and identifying other players. Can be toggled on and off with the flashlight in dark arenas, so as not to interfere with stealth combat. Full redesign of Drone 1 enemy, including new animations. Graphical overhaul of explosion effects and rocket launcher smoke trail. Fireballs now bounce up to three times, making them more usef…
- V 1.8 - BOSS BATTLES plus - Part one - 29 July 2024
BOSS BATTLES This updates adds a unique boss battle to each of the first four Bot Arenas (more boss battles will be added in future updates). Each of the first four arenas now has an additional room added to its ending, where the new bosses can be fought. These bosses have multiple independently animated body parts and multiple modes of attack. BOT SPAWNERS HAVE DEFENCES Bot Spawners were previously too easy to destroy, so now they have a chance to spawn with their own rotating gun and defense shields. The guns can have up to two fire modes (one for close defending and one for distant) and the shields can spawn in different orientations. Bot Spawners will remain defenseless in beginner mode, while the chance and power of defences spawning increases with higher game difficulties. PLAYER HEALTH REGENERATION A major problem with gameplay flow was that when the player had very low health th…
- V 1.7 - Damage Flash and other improvements - 3 June 2024
TO THE DEATH – V 1.7 (DAMAGE FLASH UPDATE) Small, but important, enhancements. DAMAGE FLASH Players, Bots and Bot Spawners now have model parts that flash in response to taking damage, making it more clear to players whether they are successfully damaging enemies / taking damage. This is especially helpful with larger enemies that have more health. CHANGES TO PLAYER CONTROLS Previously the player would use Right Trigger to fire main weapon and Right Bumper to fire secondary weapon. This was a bit strenuous on the player’s right finger. Now the Left Trigger fires the secondary weapon. This also allows players to shoot both of their weapons at the same time. The left or right Bumpers can now be used to make the Spawnable Player Turret shoot or make the Hoverboard shoot if the player is riding one. Player controls display in the Main Menu and Pause Menu has been updated accordingly. It now…
- V 1.6 - CROSSFIRE UPDATE - 28 May 2024
TO THE DEATH – V 1.6 (CROSSFIRE UPDATE) This update adds lots of new features to the game, including major enhancements to co-op gameplay. UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS CROSSFIRE MODE This unique game mechanic allows two or more players to damage enemies by crossing their Aim Mode laser sights over each other. When two laser sights touch each other they switch from a red beam to a damaging white beam. The white beams will cause explosions at any point where a robot crosses their path, even through walls, and requires no ammunition to use. Encourages co-op players to co-ordinate their attacks against enemies. Crossfire mode also plays a role in single player. Several Player Vs Bots arenas now have laser sight beams randomly built into the arena architecture. The player can cross their own beams over them to damage enemies. PLAYER HEALTH SHARE During co-op games in Player Vs Bots arenas, players can…
- V 1.5 - EXPANDED WEAPONS UPDATE - 18 April 2024
All fourteen weapons now have two fire modes, effectively doubling the number of weapons in game, while allowing the player to make use of four fire modes when holding two weapons. The new fire modes are used when the player enters Aim Mode during battle (see in-game control menu if you're not familiar with the aim mode feature). These new modes are often very different to the main fire modes and most of them allow for new tactics in gameplay. The fire modes are as follows: SHOTGUN - Normal Mode = short, but wide blast. Aim Mode = concentrated blast at longer range. RIFLE - Normal Mode = green rapid fire lasers. Aim Mode = shoot damaging glueballs, which can trap an opponent in corners or block their path. STARBURST - Normal Mode = Short distance shot thatslows and explodes in firework display. Aim Mode = Longer Distance shot that detects players or enemies it pases by and shoots second…
- V 1.4 - Graphics and animations update (among other additions) - 28 March 2024
https://www.collativelearning.com/PICS%20FOR%20WEBSITE/TO%20THE%20DEATH%20game/TO%20THE%20DEATH%20anims%20update%20promo%20pic.png This is a fairly large update that makes a lot of changes to the look and gampelay. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: Three new player abilities - SIDESTEP (for squeezing through tight gaps), LEDGE CLIMB / VAULT (jump and grab a ledge to pull yourself up) and SWORD SWING (use the main fire button to swipe instead of having to rotate your character). Nine new player animations, including recoils, dash, jump, laser sight aim, throw and anims for the new player abilities listed above. The player's currently held weapons are now visible on the player model, lest you forget which weapons you are holding. These player model changes are integrated with all the new animations. Most enemy bots now have additional animations and, in some cases, new abilities and enhanced A.I. For e…
- New laser sight aiming controls, plus other improvements. - 1 March 2024
Created a new laser sight targeting feature. At any point the player can, when not moving, press down the right stick to enter Aim Mode. This will activate a laser site and slow down player rotation and movement, allowing for more accurate targeting of opponents (while also putting themselves at risk due to moving less freely - so use this feature wisely). When in Aim mode the right stick can be used to rotate and aim without the player moving at all or the left stick can be used for the player to move with the laser sight on, but very slowly. Previously aiming at a distance was very difficult as both sticks moved the player in combination at all times. To exit aim mode either press the right thumb stick again or simply dash or jump (dashing has now been assigned to pressing down the left control stick). The updated controls can be viewed in the main menu and pause menu. Yesterdays upda…
- Improvements to game controls, performance and bot spawning - 29 February 2024
Player control change Player can now stand still and aim if they are only pushing the aim stick and not the move stick (previously it was hard to aim without the character also moving slightly), but if both sticks are being used this results in a combined aim and movement in which the aim stick contributes to movement speed as well as controlling aim. Sounds complicated, but give it a try. It keeps the nice movement from before but allows better aiming too. Feels better than before. Bot Spawning significantly improved Previously each bot spawner would spawn it's bots at one, predefined / invisible, location that never changed. Now each spawner has three points at which it can spawn a bot. These three points are clearly marked by spawn pads, which are evenly distributed around the arena. Bots will usually spawn at the pad which the player is closest to. This makes the gameplay much harde…
- Menu improvements, gameplay instructions, and assorted gameplay tweaks. - 26 February 2024
HOW TO PLAY instructions added to main menu. Significant A.I. improvements made to Troop 4 bot. Is now a lot more aggressive. Bot spawners, pushable cannons and hoverboards now generate sparks to indicate when their health is low. A handful of improvements to layout randomization in several arenas. Some layout randomization added to the first two rooms of Bot Arena 6. Flamethrower tweaks. Rate of fire reduced, as the weapons was a bit overpowered. Also lessened the particle effects of fire as it was affecting frame rate in multiplayer. Elevator speeds fixed in Arena 9 (previously way too fast). Bot spawners will spawn replacements for killed bots more quickly. Players in both game modes now start all matches armed with grenades and a pistol, instead of empty handed. More updates coming very soon!
