  • Update #4 - Replumbed Pipes, Unstalled Buildings and Various Fixes - 14 September 2026

:archon_sand: -- Greetings all prospectors! We're now one month into the release, and the response has been absolutely incredible. Honestly, it feels like I can barely keep up with all the amazing things happening around the game: the builds, the mods, the videos. Every day there’s something new to get excited about. Thank you for giving the game such a special first month. :heart_sand:This will likely be the last minor patch before the first big content update. A few smaller hotfixes may still follow, as this update includes additional engine hardening that could introduce unintended side effects. :zoe_sand: Changelogv0.5.7 -- Update #4Pipes OverhaulPipes no longer automatically connect to other adjacent pipes when built. To extend a network you need to start or end on an existing pipe tile.Building over a crossing pipe line will now create a Pipe Bridge. There are many quirks with the a…

  • Update #3 - Happier Critters, Hungrier Lava and Assorted Improvements - 3 September 2026

:zoe_sand: Hey everyone! I know the patches have been pretty fix-heavy so far. With this many players, even rare issues can affect a lot of people so I need to prioritize them. I've snuck in a couple of new things this time but the Major Update #1 patch is still cooking. The new content I'm working on has a lot of prerequisites like big map changes and other overhauls, so there will probably be another bug-fix and QoL update before then. As always: a review is hugely appreciated and helps a lot! :heart_sand:Changelogv0.5.6 -- Update #3You can now pet critters.Simply move over a creature to give them a little love, making them happy and temporarily boosting their capabilities.Voltblub energy output has also been boosted in general.Lava now destroys Fluxite, Redsoil and Strataform terrain.Lava density also increased to 200 (let me know if this causes any issues with your setups!).When a T…

  • Modding & What's Next - 28 August 2026

First off: huge THANK YOU to everyone playing, messaging me and leaving reviews. The reviews especially are a massive help. ❤️It has been a while since the last Update, but rest assured I haven't been slacking. One thing that has been getting some extra love is the modding framework and API.ModdingI really did not expect the modding scene to go this hard this fast. There are already over 125 mods and some of the stuff people are making is completely wild: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2764460/workshop/ With these many things already being built, it feels like the right time to make sure the API is headed in the right direction. I've pushed the updated modding framework to a new 0.5.5 experimental branch together with a completely new API doc that can be found here: https://sandustry.com/sandkit.htmlQuick note: mods currently require you to opt into a separate experimental Steam branch.…

  • Update #2 - Stability Improvements, Quality-of-Life and Bug Fixes - 19 August 2026

First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who has left a Steam review so far! ❤️ It's one of the best and most impactful ways you can support me and the game. Also a huge thank you to all the modders who have managed to make all these cool things without me even publishing a proper API documentation yet: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2764460/workshop/For anyone wanting to try mods and help test the modding framework, remember that you need to be on the "mods" branch in order to load subscribed mods. NOTE: This branch is unstable and not up to date yet, so do not use it if you only want to play vanilla.Changelogv0.5.5 -- Update #2 Added significantly more logging to help diagnose and debug crashes.Logs can be found at the following locations:Windows: \\Users\\ \\AppData\\Roaming\\sandustry\\logs\\main.logMac: /Users/ /Library/Logs/sandustry/main.logLinux: /home/ /.config/sandustry/logs/main.l…

  • Update #1 - Better Filter Editing, Tier 5 Softlock Fixes and Red Block Removal - 16 August 2026

A smaller update with some bug fixes and QoL. Changelogv0.5.4Improved Filter ConfigYou can now press the filter overlay label or “Edit last placed” to quickly change a filter without having to override and replace it. Improved the visual distinction of the “Allow” and “Block” settings to make it more obvious which one is selected.Fixed a few other quirks.Credit to Cohh for the live demonstration of filter-replacement struggle.Fixed a softlock causing you to get stuck with Tier 5 being blocked even after the anomaly investigation. Saves should be repaired automatically.Indestructible red blockI am working on a fix mitigating some of the root causes but it touches a lot of the core paths, so I’m not ready to ship it yet until I know it’s risk-free.Until then I’ve made it so that you can remove red blocks. Since this introduces some overhead to the demolisher when scanning for orphans it o…

Hotfix improving logging, objective clarity and trimming some memory overhead. Changelogv0.5.3 -- Hotfix This hotfix adds some diagnostics and improved logging. Work is ongoing on a larger patch trying to tackle the various crashes and problems people are reporting. Logs can be found at the following locations:Windows - C:\\Users\\ \\AppData\\Roaming\\sandustry\\logs\\main.logMac - /Users/ /Library/Logs/sandustry/main.logLinux - /home/ /.config/sandustry/logs/main.log The patch also has a few theoretical fixes and improvements:The instructional videos now unmount properly to avoid decoder exhaustion. The clouds rendered when steam condenses into rain now use much less memory. When a factory tier is blocked by an objective it now shows why (translations pending) and special objectives are visually clearer to highlight it. I also added a --sandustry-no-overlay-gpu-flags launch option (set i…

  • Deep and volatile Terraria-style factory sim Sandustry hits early access in August, Hooded Horse announce - 26 June 2026

Driven witless by the UK heatwave, I throw open my email inbox and search desperately for videogames about waterfalls, canopies of thick palm leaves, and the sibilant settling of ice in the bellies of the largest, most enduring glaciers. Instead, I am challenged to excavate a world of sand. Hooded Horse and Lantto Games have announced an early access release date for Sandustry, their 2D factory-building game in which resources break down into pixels with individual physics. It's out in early access via Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store on August 13th. Please be careful when watching the below trailer. It may absorb whatever body fluids you have left. Read more

  • Sandustry Joins Hooded Horse - 17 June 2025

If you’re into strategy and simulation games, you’ll understand why I’m super excited to announce that Sandustry is joining forces with Hooded Horse in a global publishing deal. Their track record has not only made them my favorite publisher but also earned them a stellar reputation for publishing quality titles, such as Against the Storm, Manor Lords, Norland, and many more.Partnering with a publisher means I can finally focus 100% on making the game without worrying about all the indirect tasks that currently eat up a lot of time. I’ll retain full creative freedom while having a team to support me with everything else.I can’t think of a better home for Sandustry, and I’m stoked to start revealing future plans for the game, including details on playtests and release dates. I know you’re all eager to get your hands on it, but I’m still shaking the sand to make sure it lives up to everyt…

  • THANK YOU! ❤️ - 18 April 2025

I never expected the demo to blow up like this. My plan was to release it without much fanfare and just keep working on the game while slowly building an audience. Instead, the demo brought: Hundreds of YouTube videos An amazing community with world-class QA 6k new faces in the Discord server: https://discord.gg/HJNk5eMnmt A mind-blowing modding scene with over 50 mods and custom maps 60k wishlists (go wishlist if you haven’t yet!) Some unreal demo stats: nearly 100k players averaging over 6 hours of playtime (median: 3 hours) 1,784 concurrent Steam players at peak The #1 spot on Trending Free 33k plays on itch.io A 97% "Overwhelmingly Positive" score from over 800 reviews A #3 ranking for highest-rated demo of 2025 (and 12th of all time!) as per the SteamDB rating Lots of publishers reaching out A couple of cool press mentions: “Palworld dev endorses this sand-powered sim that looks li…

  • Demo Hotfix 8 arrives to restore botanical order! - 21 February 2025

New Flower algorithm.Lots of changes to flowers to make them less unruly. Can you spot them all?You can now hold Control to replace/override buildings.Hydro Sponge upgrade for Grabber.Only works above ground. The world is no longer looping.I know a lot of people liked this and had fun abusing it in various ways, but it created too much noise in bug reports.Addressing “stuck on ‘Loading…’” issues. There was a loading problem when the game couldn’t detect the number of cores on the user’s computer or when there was not enough logical processors for the concurrency buffer. This has now been fixed.Added significantly more logging to help debug the remaining issues. You can now open the Debug Console from the loading screen. Press the button in the bottom left corner and screenshot or paste the log when reporting loading issues! (Only applicable on Steam. If on itch.io - use the regular DevTool…

  • Demo Hotfix 7 is out! - 12 February 2025

Patch notes: You can now phase through buildings while hovering in the air. The people have spoken. An overwhelming majority (88%) voted in favor. I personally think the challenge/puzzle of designing a traversable factory is interesting but also very frustrating. For those who still want to play the old way there's now a "Hard Mode" setting. Snow now vaporizes into Steam when burned. Queued buildings now block Water, and you can grab Water that is inside them. Dragging a button onto itself now clicks it instead of canceling. This was a big reason the buttons felt "hard" to click. You can no longer zip by placing blocks on top of yourself in rectangular mode. You can no longer build outside the map in the other dimensions. Added some fixes to the sound engine to mitigate crashes when too many sounds play at once (let me know if it still happens!). Many lighting improvements to reduce fli…

  • A bunch of Demo Hotfixes - 8 February 2025

Hey! I completely forgot to post some of the recent hotfixes so here goes: 2025-02-03 Implemented a workaround for the mouse "Back" button issue. 2025-02-05 Resolved issue with pipes deleting water. 2025-02-06 Finally fixed the issue with ghost pipes. 2025-02-08 Reworked the first artifact puzzle to be much harder to get stuck in. There's now a tooltip telling you that you can't use the flamethrower in "no fire plz" areas. You can no longer build shakers, filters etc on top of the player. Plants no longer push the player. You can no longer grapple launch yourself into other dimensions. There's now a "Unstuck / Respawn" button in case you're a hacker and manage to get yourself stuck anyway. I'm still multiple days behind on reading feedback and bug reports. Sorry about that. On that note - we need more posts in the subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/SandustryGame/ Go post your builds, q…

  • Demo Hotfix - 2 February 2025

Hotfix for the Sandustry Demo has been released! Patch notes: Most simulation crashes should now be resolved. If your game is still broken or bricked, please export a save and send it to me. It would be a huge help! You can now descend by pressing S. The Filter Config can now be closed with Escape. Actually implemented the key binding for Boost (previously hardcoded to W). Desktop icon should now be the actual game icon. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fix the issue with the Mouse Back button. If anyone here is an Electron expert, please let me know how I can disable it!
