- Skillwood v1.0.0 - Full release - 21 June 2026
I said "Up to a year" in early access text. It ended up being 2 years and exactly 1 day. The whole thing worth separate Expectations VS Reality post with the whole Early access disclaimer that I wrote back in early 2024, but now, let's just celebrate the full release. The game can be completed nowEven tho all achievements are still achievable during first 40-ish minutes of the game, there is a way to reach the full completion for the most devoted players and I know there were a lot already. You, guys, zone out on the game pretty heavily so I decided that you deserve the true completion just like the game. It's not like "reach bazilion of souls and get good job sign", game is reworked heavily on prestige side and almost all new systems are entwined into the ending, more in changelogBorisThat was the most asked feature by everyone and it was gap I know I had long ago. We had woodcutting co…
- Final v1.0.0 candidate is open for pre-release testing - 30 May 2026
First things first - I basicly finished the game, the version that most likely will go to full release in a coulpe of weeks is in current beta version steam branch. If some of you want to help me to make the release better - please, try the pre-release version yourself. There's some stuff, I won't go into changelog here and leave it for full release post, but the prestige system with souls is massively expanded. There's some stuff in main game too, but you'll find all of it yourself if you decide to check out pre-release version. Feedback is storngly welcome and there won't be better time to give it then next couple of weeks. Wherever is more compfortable: this thread, steam discussions or discord. Since it's my journey to have my own completion with Skillwood I think that you deserve an ending too. So now Skillwood is completable. It's not easy, base case experience is not about comple…
- Skillwood v0.23.0 - Playable NPC skins - 28 April 2026
Hi everyone. It's been a while.Quick personal context first, since I owe you one. The game getting little attention even though it was free took a hit on my motivation in late 2024 - I knew Skillwood was a niche concept, but the gap between "people who play it seem to enjoy it" and "almost nobody finds it" was harder to sit with than I expected. Then my daughter was born in February 2025 and gamedev time mostly evaporated for the year that followed. She's a bit older now and I have some room again. Sorry for going quiet. I read every thread that was posted in the gap - thanks to everyone who kept reporting bugs and asking if the game was still alive. It was always going to come back, just took longer than I wanted.v0.23.0 changelogPlayable skinsThe character monuments in the prestige world have been there since v0.22.0, but until now they only let you swap between the two default charac…
- Skillwood v0.22.5 - prestige upgrades hotfix - 21 August 2024
I could've done it earlier, but I'm a little bit low on motivation lately. Hope I can keep going with ~monthly updates as usual. Changelog: - Maxing out AOE blast skill damage multiplier won't make it deal 0 damage anymore. Thanks to @bz-mof, @Xen, @Lamey the Clown and @Blue64 for letting me know about the issue - Changed UI behaviour of prestige upgrades, now they don't hide upgrade value on max out and only hide next level souls requirements (since you can't upgrade it any further) - Fixed next level upgrade cost in portal confirmation dialog. It crashed the game in dev mode and could've bring some problems into production build too. Thanks everyone. I hope I can write a post in discussions about further plans on the game. As you might've noticed, the game is a little experiment - incremental game under the sauce of survival/farming game. And this "sauce" shot me in the knee, since it…
- Skillwood v0.22.4 - blast skill and combo meter - 15 August 2024
I'm late almost for a week with an update log, but some of you might already play the new version. Sorry for being late, I have a strange excuse, but I do version preview covers in a strange way in game and capturing blast was quite tricky. Also, v0.22.3 was a bug fix uploaded a long ago, so I didn't even bother to post a release note. Skillwood - v0.22.4 Combo skills Now you can see a combo meter above hitbar. It increases every time you land a perfect hit in the green area and resets when you do a non perfect hit or over time. There's only one skill right now, from start every 30 perfect hit will trigger blast that will hit additionally the tree or rock that you just hit and other rocks and trees nearby. You can upgrade damage multiplier and decrease combo count needed with new prestige upgrades. New map Now on top of the existing map after prestiging there is an alternative map so th…
- Skillwood v0.22.2 - new basalt area - 4 July 2024
This time my habit not to post updates imidiately allowed me to do the update for both todays and yestedays (v0.22.1) version. Skillwood - v0.22.2 Basalt area Added next tier stone area - Basalt gorge. You can use it for higher leveled campfire and mining workbench. It also adds you the biggest amount of souls among all other areas. Tutorial hub I recieved the feedback about not being able to see tutorials again multiple times, so I made the special tutorial hub in pause menu, where all your passed tutorials unlock while you read them. Also two new tutorials explain the NPC trading system and how to work with Carlos. Building UI update I noticed that some players forget to upgrade things, so I added the different sprites on top of building ui depending on if you can upgrade your thing or not. I also made the button animated so it could be more noticable. You can also see the current lev…
- Skillwood - Early access release - v0.22.0 - 20 June 2024
Skillwood finally enters Early Access. I think I kept it in demo for too long already, since I see there's enough content to play for an early access version. I supported demo version since january and you helped me a lot with giving feedback, which I used to improve the game. In this perspective nothing will change. Game is still free, I will still listen to your feedback and try to reply in discussions. The only new thing in this perspective - is the discord account of the game. I'm keeping track of my plans, send there future features and track bugs too. I still have my vision, so sometimes we can have different opinions on where the game should go, but I'll still try to listen to feedback and look behind the words of what flaw of the game might make one want something. And here goes the traditional part. Changelog Character selection Now you can pick one of two default characters to…
- Demo v0.21.1 - ironwood forest area - 4 June 2024
Not so much time left until steam next fest and yet, I'm still posting update notes several days late as usual. Consistency is my second name, what else can I say. New area - Sandstone desert Since the game has natural area progression wood->mineral->wood->mineral the next area should be next tier wood. Since I aleady had regular green forest and autumn hardwood forest my first intention was to make some sort of winter forest. But winter match better with the softwood trees like pines and 1. Softwood isn't better then hardwood, so it doesn't have sence having it better wood then the previous one 2. I already did an area with this types of trees. So I decided to go the other way and see how far can I get with staying close to reality with wood types without adding wood refinement. So I found the real prototype for my ironwood trees and made the whole area based on it. Since there's an np…
- Demo v0.21.0 - trader NPCs - 13 May 2024
Demo v0.21.0 I think it's the biggest feature since addition of food and can change core gameplay loop Barter NPCs Now after upgrading area twice the NPC will spawn. Each area has it's own unique NPC: Forest: Limestone: Hardwood forest: Sandstone desert: Each of them mine their own resources, depnding on area they are in. And after they finish you can trade their resources for lower tier ones. Softwood logs for sticks, limestone for softwood, hardwood for limestone and sandstone for hardwood. Ratio is tweaked to be more profitable for player, but the tier of resource still counts. After trading several times NPC will level up and will provide both better and bigger trade offers. This could help with both automatization and with utilizing lower tier resources, which ended up being completely useless at some moment of the game. Side effects Adding objects earlier on areas upgrading allowe…
- Demo v0.20.4 - small hotfix of bugs with default volume and souls tutorial - 5 May 2024
Demo v0.20.4 The story repeats and a new video revealed new bugs. These bugs got me in a middle of working on big update, so I hidden the feature I was working at and quickly fixed these issues. Muted sounds by default can really spoil the impression of the game even though there's a settings window for this. Changelog Changed value of default volume from 0, so the game won't be muted by default anymore (the most important thing) Fixed sprites of a portal in souls tutorial panels that became broken after portal animations update That video As I wrote in the comment to that video I'm happy that most of the problems that was mentioned there COULD be compensated with the updated I'm working with because of things will be unlocked earlier.
- Demo v0.20.3 - new animations and feedback fixes - 30 April 2024
Demo v0.20.3 The latest devlog I've done. The v0.20.3 version was uploaded 26 april, while I post it on 30 april. Sorry for that, at least the improvements got to you earlier then the description of this imrpovements. Looks like I'm just doing devlog anouncements, but upside down. Changelog Fixed typos in all tutorials based on QuanticFlux feedback Remade how hitbar works, so it won't feel so "off" anymore Since everything falls from the sky player now spawns by falling from the sky too Added new animation of portal collapsing That QuanticFlux video
- Demo v0.20.2 - souls shop hotfix - 21 April 2024
Problem: since I make covers for new versions in game itself, I, as usual, did it with v0.20.0. However because I did it with souls shop scene instead of main menu scene as usual, I forgot to remove it before building new 0.20.1 version. So souls shop ended up being almost unusable. Player is hidden (but still controllable) and view is covered with version info panels, making this shop almost unusable. That's litterally how it looked IN GAME: Thanks A LOT to QuanticFlux for letting me know even before he uploaded the video as I uploaded hotfix 0.20.2 version 36 hours ago. So The good thing - the bugged version was in steam for around 12 hours The bad thing - new video will be with this bugged version, so if you want to check how stupid was the mistake I made you can check it out on QuanticFlux channel. Thanks again to him So the biggest think I can do to thank him is to ask you (2-3 peo…

I planned to add these controls anyway, but you helped me with priorities. https://www.twitch.tv/valryia - english https://www.twitch.tv/praxiqea - russian (sorry for not localizing my game, I screwed up with fonts at the beginning so now adding cyrillic texts won't be easy as my fonts doesn't have those) And big late thanks to Tina. - Demo v0.20.0 - prestige and meta progression - 12 April 2024
Demo v0.20.0 Souls system Added souls obtaining for area upgrades. After areas update game started to revolve more around not only upgrading your skills, but also upgrading playable environment by adding more trees, rocks and food. Now it's additionally encouraged by receiving new type of currency for that - souls. Later they will be used in prestige area, where you can obtain upgrades that will remain with you between play runs. Prestige bonuses After obtaining of certain amount of souls portal near player spawnpoint will open. After you enter the portal you will teleport to the special prestige area, where you can spend earned souls on permanent bonuses that will persist you between runs: Loot bonus - adds additional loot item after finishing a tree or a rock. Works better for smaller objects Loot multiplier - multiplies loot after finishing a tree or a rock, doesn't multiply bonus. W…
