- Krita 5.3 Released & SteamCloud for Krita Documents - 1 April 2026
Hello to all the Krita community artists here on Steam. Today I'm happy to bring a double-whammy of great news to you all!Krita 5.3 is here, and it's a big one...This week marks the release of Krita 5.3.1! We technically released Krita 5.3 last week, but it was quickly brought to our attention that certain users on Windows platforms with PowerToys installed were running into serious issues with user interface performance. Long story short, that meant calling an audible and delaying the release here on Steam at the 11th hour. It was a tricky one to verify and track down, but luckily we were able to find the cause relatively quickly and fix it in 5.3.1. But more to the point, this marks the first real release in the Krita 5.3 series, which contains a huge number of new features, improvements, optimizations and bug fixes. Krita's Text Tool has been totally rewritten to allow for direct on-…

- Krita 5.2.13 bugfix release! - 24 September 2025

The release also includes a security fix that affected the work with TGA files." As always, please feel free to check out the full release notes here: https://krita.org/en/posts/2025/krita-5.2.13-released/ Thank you all for your continued support!
- Krita 5.2.10 Released! - 9 July 2025
Hi all! Today we're releasing Krita 5.2.10! This is a bug fix release. After this release we will focus on releasing Krita 5.3.0, the next feature release, and Krita 6.0.0, the first release based on Qt6. \ Note for users of keyboards with more than 12 function keys. Programs like WeChat regularly inject a spurious F22 keypress to get focus. From 5.2.10, Krita will by default ignore any function key higher than F12. If you have a keyboard or other device sending such keypresses, you can enable them by adding the following line to your kritarc file: ... ignoreHighFunctionKeys=false ...We'll spare you all the details for now right now, but you can find the full list of changes and fixes over on the official Krita website. And finally, as always, we'd like to thank all of you here on Steam who have supported the Krita project over the years, allowing us to make great and accessible digital…

- Hotfix 5.2.6 Released. - 30 September 2024
Hey all, super quick update! Some Krita 5.2.5 users were running into a bad crash, and this bug was occurring enough that we decided it would be best to do a hotfix release with the appropriate fix. As such, we're releasing Krita 5.2.6 as a hotfix patch for 5.2.5's crashing problem, and we're publishing it here on Steam even before the official update so that those of you who get automatic updates are not inadvertently exposed to crashes when working. That's all for now, thanks again for your support and please feel free to reach out to us (via a bug report on bugs.kde.org, on #krita on @ irc.libera.chat on IRC, on the Krita-Artists community forum, or elsewhere) to let us know if you run into any problems with the latest version of Krita. Emmet, on behalf of the Krita Development Team

As always, here's a link to the full patch notes over on the official Krita website. And finally, a major shout out and a big thank you to all of our users here on Steam for your support! Thanks. The Krita Development Team.
- Krita 5.2.3/4 is here and 25 years of Krita! - 26 July 2024
Hey Krita community! I'm glad to announce to you all today that Krita 5.2.3 (or 5.2.4 on Windows) is finally here for all of our Steam users after an unfortunate, but necessary, delay. Before I get into the details surrounding the brief delay, please check out our official 5.2.3 patch notes over on the Krita website. As some of you may know, Krita 5.2.3 was meant to come out for all of our users a couple of weeks ago, and for a short amount of time it did, including right here on Steam. However, during the weekend just after release we started to get a deluge of helpful bug reports from community members letting us know that something was wrong as they were experiencing frequent crashes during normal use on Windows. These crashes were partly the result of our new developer "CI"--a system which automates building new versions for us--and have now been fixed. But, to put the bottom line o…

- Linux: Fixed Krita for Flatpak version of Steam. - 31 August 2023
Hi again Krita community, I have a small (but important) update for Linux users. We've fixed Krita on the Flatpak version of Steam! Now, to give a bit of a technical explanation for anyone who cares, Krita is normally distributed on Linux in a portable application format called "AppImage". Since we brought Krita to Steam for Linux, it's been just the same, distributed through Steam as an AppImage. For the majority of Steam users on Linux this has worked just fine, but an increasing number of Linux users have started opting to download Steam itself as in a different, portable containerized format called "Flatpak". And this is where we ran into a nasty compatibility bug: despite my best efforts, I just couldn't make our Krita AppImage run correctly inside the Steam Flatpak sandbox environment. Long story short, we've solved this problem by changing the way we distribute and run Krita on S…
- Notice: Some Linux (Flatpak) users having issues! [FIXED] - 28 April 2023
Hi there. I just want to let everybody know that we've been informed that some Linux (Flatpak) users are having issues running Krita through Steam at the moment. I'm in the process of trying to find out what went wrong and I'll let you all know as soon as it's fixed. UPDATE: This problem appears to only be affecting Linux users who have Steam installed through Flatpak. It seems like the Krita AppImage will fail to mount while inside the Flatpak container environment. However, there is a workaround, because you can still launch the AppImage that Steam gives you from outside of Steam (either using a file browser to navigate to it, wherever your Steam content is installed, or from a terminal). Alternatively, you may just want to use a non-Flatpak Steam install for now. We want to make sure Krita works well for all of our users, so I will do my best to figure out a way to solve this Flatpak…

- Krita 5.1.3 Released - 15 November 2022
Hey all, Krita 5.1.3 is now out on Steam. Sorry that this update is a tiny bit later on Steam than other channels but I was out of town for release week! Today we’re releasing Krita 5.1.3. This is strictly a bug fix release, but we recommend updating to everyone. There are also performance improvements because we updated some of the libraries we use! Note that we have skipped 5.1.2 because of a last-minute bug fix (with the exception of Android, where we are still on 5.1.2 due to signing trouble, and thus bugs 461436 and 459510 are still at large. They will be fixed in the next version). Please check out the full patch notes on our website: https://krita.org/en/item/krita-5-1-3-released/ Thanks for your continued support! Emmet
- Notice: Krita 5.1.3 Steam release delayed until the beginning of next week. - 11 November 2022
Hi again, all. This week we've released Krita 5.1.3, a minor bugfix release. Unfortunately I'm out of town and away from my normal workspace, and I'm having some difficultly pushing the latest version to Steam. As such, I want to let all of our Steam users know that the Steam release of 5.1.3 will be delayed until the beginning of next week, and will hopefully be uploaded on or around Monday, November 14th. Sorry for the delay and have a good weekend. Emmet
- Krita 5.1.1 Bugfix Release - 26 September 2022
Today we’re releasing Krita 5.1.1. This is strictly a bug fix release. Two serious problems are fixed in this release: a slowdown in start-up time experienced by some people, and a crash when copying a vector layer. You can read the specific change notes here.
