- New November 9 Launch Date! - 14 September 2026
Hello, everyone! Ryan of Regalcraft Games here with a quick update on ONE FENIX DOWN. After a lot of thought, I have made the difficult decision to shift the release date from September 28 to November 9. I know that it's never exciting or fun to hear about a game delay, so I want to be upfront about this shift in release timing. You've probably heard me say this before, but ONE FENIX DOWN has been a passion project for close to a decade. We’re extremely close to the finish line, but we need a little more time to polish the game and make sure it launches exactly the way it deserves to be presented. This extra window affords us the time to tighten up combat, smooth out visual effects, refine story presentation, and make sure everything shines on DAY ONE. This final stretch is all about making the experience the best it can be for YOU. The good news is that the game is nearly there, the de…

ONE FENIX DOWN started out as a small passion project nearly 10 years ago, and it has grown into a monstrous 40-hour epic adventure that we can’t wait to share with you this September. Recent Demo Improvements As we continue steadily marching toward launch, we’ve been updating the demo to better reflect the experience you’ll find in the full game. In fact, some of these improvements were shaped by your feedback and th…

- End of Year Update 2025 - 12 December 2025
Hello everyone, Welcome to our year-end update for 2025! This time around we'll cover a major milestone in the game's development, a teaser of a beautiful new area, and Steam Next Fest news. Let's jump right in! Major MilestoneI'm thrilled to announce that One Fenix Down's main story is now 100% complete! Whaaaattt!!!After working on this game since 2016 it's still hard to wrap my head around it. Last month I completed the Final Boss encounter and have been doing my first ever beginning-to-end playthrough. Admittedly a bit biased, but I truly believe fans of indie JRPGs and retro-styled ones are going to enjoy this game. My QA team have also started on alpha testing and bug hunting. Meanwhile my next steps are polishing the game and getting it ready for the beta testing in February or March. This includes implementing all the fine art from our artists and adding optional content to ensu…
- Developer’s Log: Q2 2025 - 5 July 2025
Hello everyone, Welcome to our next update of 2025! This time around we'll cover the latest progress update, the new release date, and some gnarly assets in development. Let's jump right in! Progress ReportSince the last update I have made some progress towards the final section of the game. However, it's honestly not as far along as I would have hoped. Coupled with the fact that I have two major contributors who have ghosted production and am now needing to find replacements for them, I need to face the music. One Fenix Down is officially delayed to 2026 :(My goal is to still release the game in H1 of next year, so in less than 12 months you could be playing the final version! The main concern I have at this point is replacing the monster battler artist since there are quite a few bosses left to do, and keeping everything consistent enough with the work that has been done will be a cha…
- Developer’s Log: Q1 2025 - 29 March 2025
Hello everyone, Welcome to our first update of 2025! This time around we'll cover the latest progress update, my thoughts on release date, and some tubular tunes from the main composers. Let's jump right in! Progress Report Fortunately the personal issues that were plaguing me the last few months are all but over. I've been able to focus more on development and have even completed the semi-optional areas I mentioned before. Now there's only the last section of the game to do -- think the Return to Midgar and Northern Cave in FF7. To be conservative I'll still say the main story is at 90% completion, but I'm more optimistic about completing the game this year. In terms of the launch date, I'll decide by next update in Q2 if a release this year is best. As mentioned last time, there needs to be some consideration for post-production like polishing, QA, marketing, etc. This being my first…
- Developer’s Log: Q4 2024 - 30 December 2024
Hello everyone, Happy holidays and a happy 2025! It's been an eventful 2024 for One Fenix Down, from launching our Steam page and demo to funding a successful Kickstarter! As always I wanted to share the latest developments with our game along with the assets in development. So without further ado... Progress Report As any aspiring game developer would admit, the hardest part about making a game is arguably the discipline of sitting down and doing the work day after day after day. Especially when life throws you some serious curveballs. Such is the case with me which has unfortunately slowed down production these past few months. However, I have been able to finish many semi-optional areas leading up to the final dungeon despite the setbacks. Overall I'd estimate the main story to be at 90% completion. This isn't a huge step-up from the 85% estimate I had during the Kickstarter, but res…
- Developer’s Log: Q3 2024 - 6 October 2024
Hello everyone, I'm excited to share some updates over the past few months! From our Kickstarter being funded in only 3 days, to samples and guest appearances of our OST, to the latest snippets from the game, I've got some neat things to share for this devlog update! Kickstarter 230% Funded! Wow, what a journey that was. I still am blown away at the results. 230% funded overall and hitting our funding goal in 3 days?! Outstanding. And as a bonus, we hit our stretch goal to bring Emi Evans onboard to write and perform the main theme of our game! I'll leave Late Pledges available for another month in case anyone wants to grab One Fenix Down now on discount and with the digital strategy guide included! - Special Update: Demo and Kickstarter Launch - 22 July 2024
Hello everyone, I'm happy to announce that we'll be releasing our game demo and launching our Kickstarter over the next week! Steam Demo/Prologue - July 25 Beginning Thursday you'll be able to play our demo on Steam! This demo is actually a hybrid game demo and preview of the main story. Half will be devoted to content not in the actual game while the other half introduces the prologue and first ~15 mins. of the actual game. The reason for this split is that the two pair rather well. The demo features a vertical slice of gameplay elements you'll discover throughout the game including party swapping, equipment upgrades, on-map encounters, and event-based instant victory. Since the story in the demo is canon, it felt natural to extend it into the prologue (the beginning of the full game) so that players can see the conclusion of the events. Kickstarter - August 1 The following Thursday, o…
- Developer’s Log: May - June 2024 - 23 June 2024
Hello everyone, Hope you all are enjoying the summer (or winter for those of you down under). I have some mixed news to share for this devlog update. And to keep with the habit, I'll include some of the latest snippets of work I've done over the last month. Kickstarter/Demo Delayed ːsteamfacepalmː I was a little overly optimistic about the timeline launch for both of these. I'm now aiming for next month, but it's unfortunately out of my hands to an extent. You see, one of our artist has some personal issues that's preventing a certain piece from being completed. Otherwise the demo and Kickstarter page are ready to go, but without that last piece I'd be launching something that's 99% ready which doesn't sit right with me. Frankly I don't know how AAA titles do it (shots fired). So until that last piece is finished, we'll just need to sit tight. I would, however, appreciate any additional…
- Developer’s Log: March - April 2024 - 31 March 2024
Hello everyone, Thanks for checking out the latest ONE FENIX DOWN bi-monthly dev log. I'm a little early for this one as I wanted to share some exciting news -- we're launching a Kickstarter campaign later this year! And as part of that, we'll release our (likely) final demo of ONE FENIX DOWN on Steam! You can read more about these down below. I've also included some gameplay snippets of work I've done over the last month. Kickstarter! As mentioned in the last update, I've decided to go ahead and create a Kickstarter page. My intention is to launch this late spring/early summer provided that the final demo will be available. Although it's still a few months away, I would greatly appreciate any pre-launch follows on the page below. Link to the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rcdunn/one-fenix-down-a-retro-inspired-turn-based-rpg Also previously mentioned, ONE FENIX DOWN…
- Developer’s Log: January - February 2024 - 24 February 2024
Hello everyone, Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to all those who have wishlisted and followed ONE FENIX DOWN. The Steam page was launched just two weeks ago, and I’m overwhelmed by the interest and support you’ve all shown. I figured the least I could do for the hundreds of you wanting to try the game is create transparency with this developer’s log, sharing my thoughts and progress every 1-2 months. Without further ado… State of the Game Overall the main story of ONE FENIX DOWN is approximately 85% complete. Although it sounds nearly complete, I’d estimate the average player will take 35-40 hours to finish it. Therefore that last 15% is still a sizeable chunk outstanding. Artwork is also making progress, although I’d estimate that being closer to 60% complete. Our pixel artists are hard at work with the next batch of battlers, and here’s a taste: We’re also constantly getting ne…
