  • Something New - 14 August 2020

Hey folks! I just wanted to reach out to you all and let you know that I've been working on a new game over the past couple months. To say that I've learned a great deal from the mistakes of the past would be an understatement. It's smaller in scope and very different from Atajrubah. Development for the new game has had a lot of planning, organising, work and testing put into it. I've reached the end of the first phase of development and have a functionally complete prototype(minus sound and music for the time being). I've done a lot of internal testing but I'd like to do testing with a larger group of people before commencing with the second phase of development. If any of you are interested in getting involved there are Windows 10, Linux and macOS builds of the game available for testing. I've included a signup form below. https://forms.gle/pcYqzgDBy1ViF1GP9 Kindest Regards MrNexy

  • End of Development - 21 January 2020

Hey there folks, Bad news, It's become clear over the past 6-12 months specifically, multiple re-development attempts and versions of the game that this is not going to work out. With no team members, limited resources, mounting personal costs and now a lack of time to allocate to active development I'm simply not able to sustain the development of the game. It's a bummer but all things come to an end. I really appreciate the patience and support that you folks have shown and its a regret of mine that I haven't been able to deliver on the game. Kindest Regards, MrNexy

  • Things are changing. - 13 October 2019

Hey there folks, This is a short announcement regarding development. There are a number of things about the game that are changing, foremost being the name. The theme will remain the same, however (Arabian inspired). I'll be sharing more information soon. Kindest Regards, MrNexy

  • Atajrubah Re-Development Update 16/05/2017 - 16 May 2017

Hey there fine folks! While this isn’t a full update post with pictures and all, I wanted to pop by and update you on my progress. As mentioned in the previous update post, the remaining tasks were to finish off the core AI functionality and to set up the menu systems. As of today, those tasks have been completed. In addition to that, I have added support for game modes. Regular mode would have reasonable survival and resource rates, whereas Hardcore mode would have higher thirst and hunger rates but lower resource rates. I do plan on using these different game modes to affect other mechanics in the world as well. The saving and loading of player placed structures, storage prefabs, and cooking prefabs have been completed. That way when a server goes offline, players don’t lose all of their stuff. New Website I've setup a new website where people can get a brief overview of the game and…

  • Atajrubah Re-Development Update 17/04/2017 - 17 April 2017

Hey there fine folks! I'm back with another update, it's not quite as lengthy as the last one but I've made some progress and wanted to share it with you. Resource collection from plants, rocks and trees I've completed the setup for collecting resources from plants, rocks, and trees. This system is setup so that I can quickly expand resource collection. Different plants, rocks, and trees will yield different resources at different rates. One plant might yield herbs used in medicine while another might just yield plant fibre and wood. I've been doing research on the different flora in my part of the Middle East and most of them have multiple purposes. A lot of it medicinal and some of it for crafts. Socket Based Construction System I had a socket based construction system prototyped in the previous version of the game. It never made it into the Early Access build however. I've just finish…

  • Atajrubah Re-Development Update 27/03/2017 - 27 March 2017

Hey there, fine folks! This development post has been a long time coming. Since re-starting development in December, I have made swift progress on the core systems of the game. As a forewarning, all the assets seen in the screenshots are placeholders. It’s all quite ugly but what’s important is that it works and does so bug-free. Inventory Management System Inventory management is an important part of survival games. While it’s not ground-breaking in its implementation, it is functional and works smoothly. Players are able to visualize their character model and stats on this screen. The setup for facilitating loot collection of any type of loot item has been setup. Food, resources, clothing and weapons can all be picked up and dropped back into the world. Just as collectible loot items have been setup, equipping of those items via drag-dropping them and using the action menu has also be…

Hello there, fine folks! I hope that you've all been well. I just wanted to pop by to let you all know that work on the game has been progressing in leaps and bounds. I'll be making a full update post in the coming days with all the juicy details. Until then keep the name submissions rolling in on the link below. We're at 81 suggestions now, not that far until 100! :) Atajrubah Change of Name Submission Form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSclVqlH-ep9mFxtuX8oeBdFIFAjUM0p7Y92tJ07ARuyzawxjA/viewform Kind Regards, MrNexy

  • Atajrubah Development Update - Choose a new name ! - 11 February 2017

Hi there folks ! I've made some good progress with Atajrubah's re-development recently. Just yesterday I finally finished the core implementation of the crafting system. With each passing day, the end of Phase 1 of re-development draws closer. There is an ever growing list of completed features that you can check out here: Atajrubah Re-development Roadmap https://trello.com/b/sYDNccVy/atajrubah-re-development-roadmap My main focus in this phase has been to make sure that all the systems put in place just work. No bugs. No glitches. As such, there hasn't been a playable build uploaded to steam just yet. That time is coming soon, possibly within the next 2 months. At that point, I will need all your help to stress test the systems that I've put in place. For the time being, I really need your help with an important part of the re-development process.... A new name for the game. Over the y…

  • Atajrubah Development Re-booted ! - 22 December 2016

Hello there fine folks of Steam, It's not often that lone developers get a second wind once a project fails let alone a third. However. This happens to be the case, as the development of Atajrubah has resumed. After much time away from the game and with a great deal more development experience under my belt, I feel that I can apply the lessons learned to Atajrubah to create a smooth and entertaining game experience. Development is planned to take place in 4 stages which are detailed below and on the game's Trello board. Everything thus far has been rebuilt from the ground up to work as smoothly and seamlessly as possible, the game will be going in a more stylized direction to make it more manageable for a solo developer such as myself to create and the name of the game may very well change too. New keys for the game won't be issued however as there are many, many of them out there in the…

  • Supporting Development. - 11 December 2015

Good evening fine folks ! As you may know I have not had as much time to do development work on Atajrubah as I would like this year. This is for the most part down to taking on freelance work in order to support myself. When I have had time I have made significant progress however. I'd very much like to be able to spend more time working on the game. This is something I'd only be able to do with your help and support. Many of you fine folks have made generous donation offers in the past that I've had to kindly decline. At the time I didn't have a mechanism through which to properly manage contributions and offer adequate rewards. Lately however I have been looking into Patreon, how I could possibly utilise it to help support development and give something more than just a copy of the game in return. My question to you fine folks is would you consider, helping to support development thro…

  • 12/11/2015 - Development Update - 12 November 2015

Good evening fine folks , I finally managed to get some development time in over the past two days. I just wanted to post a quick update on what I've been working on. Work on this has just about been completed, items can now not only be picked up and moved around in the inventory but they can also be added to the Quick Slot bar. This will make equiping and using weapons, tools and items much simpler than the previous system. Seeing as that work is just about done I went about making sure that all the back-end stuff for using tools to gather resources is also done. The backend setup for using weapons is also done. The next things I'll focus on is getting some new animations in place and making a range of melee and projectile weapons to test out with folks online. I don't have an eta on this update but we'll see how things go. There's still plenty of work to be done but I'm happy with the…

  • 20/08/2015 - Update : Upcoming 0.1.8b details. - 20 August 2015

Good afternoon fine folks, It has certainly been a very busy week in terms of development, perhaps a lot more than has been the case in recent months. I just wanted to give you folks a quick run down of whats changing in the coming updates. I'll also be taking some down time from today until Monday. So updates, development and testing should resume on Monday. Today's update has this already in place , when you pickup items or gather resources a UI icon will pop up in the bottom right of screen. The design and animation is open to change and debate. As of today's update these are only cosmetic, however once I have the back end side of things setup you'll be able to equip tools and weapons. *Note* In preparation for this you won't be able to gather dates to eat but you'll be able to gather stone and wood (albeit without any tools in hand :S) As of today's update there are no real options f…

  • 0.1.8a - Patch notes. - 18 August 2015

Just a few improvements I put together this morning for UI. More to come in the next update, including UI elements to indicate that you've collected items or resources. - MrNexy When searching for or joining a game, dialogue boxes will appear to notify you of the result. An Icon now appears above player's head when they press down the key for voice chat. You can now use escape to get back to the Main Menu from all other Menu's , when you are in game and the Main Menu is up you can press escape to close it and return to the game.

  • Update 17/08/2015 - Menus & Multiplayer Testing - 17 August 2015

Hey there fine folks, This update has taken a little while longer than even the last one has. It was worth taking the time to put some important things in place. The systems and features mentioned below are still a work in progress , if and when you find bugs please do post them in the relavent discussion board. I have fashioned some first person hands from the character mesh that Dan Hitchen created previously. The animation isn’t great but gets the point across for the time being. http://atajrubahgame.nexymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Screenshot_71.jpg http://atajrubahgame.nexymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Screenshot_61.jpg I’ve done the ground work that will enable players to gather resources such as stone, wood, plant fibre and scavenge-able food from nearly every foliage mesh placed in the world (Within reason of course). I made some new grass meshes as the old ones wer…

  • Update 05/08/2015 - Update - 5 August 2015

Good morning fine folks ! I'd like to apologize for the later than usual update. I've upgraded to Windows 10 and migrated the project over to Unreal Engine 4.8.3, some house keeping was necessary to get things working smoothly but it's done now. A very important notice. When you want to try out the latest build when it goes live , please be sure to uninstall the game through steam and re-install it. That way you are getting a clean install of the build without any remnants of the old one to cause issues. I have added a few graphical options to the intro screen. Once I've rebuilt the menu system I will make a full set of graphics options available to you fine folks. For the time being this should help things run a little smoother on older systems. http://atajrubahgame.nexymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Screenshot_1.jpg I have put more work into the inventory and it now supports aut…

  • Update 29/07/2015 - Update - 29 July 2015

Good evening fine folks ! I'm just popping by with a quick development update. This is what I got done in the time that I've had this week. Inventory Further improvements have been made to the drag-drop inventory. I still haven't gotten automatic stacking in place yet though. However I did make changes that will allow me to dynamically spawn windows of different sizes. This will make creating bags of various sizes nearly effortless. Chat and Multiplayer I have spent time getting this functionality in place, its not complete but will pave the way for getting people in the game and communicating with each other. Strangely enough the work done here will benefit the day/night cycles, making sure that its properly replicated to all clients. Well thats about it for now , I shall see what I can get done tomorrow in terms of Settings UI. I may simplify it for expedience sake. Perhaps 3 addition…

  • Update 25/07/2015 - Inventory Management - 25 July 2015

Good Afternoon fine folks. As mentioned in the previous post I have updated Atajrubah , I'll be focusing on the UI and inventory management for a while. Please refer to the post below for instructions, below that you'll find a few screenshots. ** I've also made a Linux build of the game , though I have not been able to test it out as I don't have access to a Linux OS at the moment. I'll be updating this build a little later today if anyone is interested in testing it please drop me an email. As I mentioned in the previous post , there is something strange going on with the Day/Night cycle. I will address this in a subsequent update this week. You are free to leave feedback and ask questions in the relevant discussion boards. http://steamcommunity.com/games/282960/announcements/detail/118568617150327562 http://atajrubahgame.nexymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2015-07-25_00003.jpg ht…

  • Update 24/07/2015 - Inventory Management Update - 23 July 2015

Good evening fine folks. Just swinging by to give you a heads up on the next update. It should be rolling out Friday/Saturday evening and will focus on the Inventory UI. The UI will require further updates before its done and the functionality has been thoroughly tested. To bring up the test inventory you can do so by pressing . Pressing again will dismiss the menu. You can collect items either by pressing when they have an orange highlight , or you can press to collect a particular object. I've added an action menu .You can access it by hovering over the inventory item you wish to perform an action on and pressing . For the time being the salvage functionality hasn't been implemented just yet. You'll also notice that hovering over an inventory item brings up a tooltip with information about that item. Lastly I have implemented stacking items. Its not automated just yet though, you'll h…

  • Update 20/07/2015 - 20 July 2015

Atajrubah has been updated with the changes mentioned in the previous update on the 15th. Update 15/07/2015 http://steamcommunity.com/games/282960/announcements/detail/118567983061532193 In addition to that I have defaulted the game to run fullscreen and added an intro screen. I've also set up the left mouse button up to fire a projectile that explodes when on contact. For the time being apart from the aforementioned changes , there's still not much to do in the game. I spent the past weekend doing a lot of behind the scenes work on the new inventory system implementation. It may make it into the next build if I can find the time this week to get the rest done. I've included a few screenshots below of the intro screen and new terrain. Best Regards MrNexy http://atajrubahgame.nexymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Screenshot_4.jpg http://atajrubahgame.nexymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2…

  • Update 15/07/2015 - 15 July 2015

Hey there fine folks , this is just a quick update on where things are. Thank you ! First and foremost I want to thank everyone who sent in key requests , there were many of these requests and as such I'm not able to respond to each one in a personalized fashion. Thank you for the kind words and support, they are very much appreciated. Regarding Key Requests. To date there have been around 290 - 300 odd keys sent out, which in part explains the delay between the request emails being sent in and the keys being sent back. Given the number of requests received I can bet there are some that I have missed, others that may have received double emails. For that I would like to extend my sincerest apologies, however moving forward I won't be accepting any more requests Changes to the Game Life has been very busy the past couple months and work has not allowed me much time to work on Atajrubah.…
