Mask Around have been updated to version 1.2 on all platforms. Here are the changes: Once you've beat the game with a mask, a star will display next to it and you'll be able to see your best time with this mask. Additions Added run timer logic Added a setting to display the run timer (default to off) Displayed the run timer on game over screen when successfully completing a run Displayed the fastest run timer on the main menu Once you complete a run with a mask, it will be granted a "star" in the mask menu Changing mask during a run will not star any mask even if you complete the run. special art I've drawn to celebrate release Hello!!! I think today calls for several exclamation marks, because... Well, because it's release day: Mask Around just released! If you do get the game, it would help me tremendously if you left a review. Early reviews are by far the biggest boost a freshly released Steam game can get. My work on Mask Around isn't done yet: I still need to release the android version, and I will offer support for bug fixes or game improvements if necessary. No Organs Here Have you ever dreamed about making a Body without organs? Buff form (bullet glitch not included) While trying to understand this philosophical concept the other day, I realized that maybe this is what my games, and especially Mask Up, are about: enabling the embodiment of something that goes beyond what our simple physical bodies are, or even what they could be. Becoming fluid. In Mask Up, you were directly the juice, while in Mask Around, you begin as a human but slowly become one with the juice, until you reach your final weirdly buffed form, the latest addition to the game. - Many Reasons To Explode: Mask Around devlog #2 - 19 May 2024
Following the fun : first zone rework Lately, I've been trying to "follow the fun" with Mask Around. I realized that what I found fun in platformer roguelike is the principle of "chain of action": one action leading to another, which leads to another, and so on. I've been tweaking the game and adding small mechanics in order to extends existing chains of action. gif #1: action > reaction > more reaction For this, I've added an explosive variant of the green blocs. These new deadly obstacles explode when something collides with them with a strong enough impact. Secondly, I've modified the drone behavior so that it explodes upon death. Both of these mechanics can be a danger for the player, as well as an opportunity, since the explosions damage enemies as well. I also took the time to add secrets, namely masks and backpacks, with a focus on the first area. I'm pretty proud of the result!…

So... I've been working on this game for the last 8 months and I today I'm finally announcing it! In this post I want to talk about what is Mask Around and why I'm making it. But first check out the trailer: In 2019, I created Mask Up, a mobile roguelike, that I ported to Steam later. With Mask Up, my goal was to make a platformer with only two buttons. I made several moveset to experiment with this fun but limiting control scheme, which ended up being the 4 playable forms. Mask Up was an experimental game from the beginning: fun to develop, but somewhat messy. the infamous 'Mask Up' and 'Plant Down' characters Two years later, I naturally wanted to created something more polished, so I started working on Plant Down, a short Mask Up prequel that consisted of only 3 boss fights.
