- Hushberry Games 50% off for the next week! - 27 July 2025
Part of why I started making adult games is probably the same reason a lot of people think about making anything: because they look at what's available, and think "I don't like X, Y, and Z," and "I wish there were more A, B, and C." I personally want less violence, abuse, and highschoolers of conveniently-unstated ages. But people like different things, and just because I don't personally like something doesn't mean I'd wish it banned! There are undoubtedly people who find Hushberry's games boring and basic (or still gross and offensive because they have penises in them). One person's garbage is another's treasure. Find what you want, and if you can't find it, make it!Censorship is a narrow, short-sighted "solution" that doesn't change anything about the people being censored or banned; kicking people out just makes them angrier, more likely to group up elsewhere, and more likely to figh…
- Pale Light: a free game from Hushberry, coming later this year... - 24 June 2025
Pale Light, a short, free visual novel + puzzle game, will be coming out this year in time for Halloween! The game was intended for Halloween last year, but some last-minute hiccups prevented its release. The good news is, since it's already basically done, it will take very little development time away from Hushberry's other pursuits! If you're up for some pixelated spookiness (and, though our protagonist is not into dead people that way, a few pixelated nipples), consider wishlisting it!Have fun! ;)
- For One Year is out of early access! - 13 April 2025
After about a year being in Early Access, For One Year has received several new dateable characters, stronger seasonal theming, a new minigame (cooking!), new skills, new achievements, and more! Of course, more could always be added, but it feels like there's enough content now to comfortably say "this game is no longer in early access"! Hushberry Games is going to start transitioning focus to the next game (expect a Steam store page before too long), BUT: this is NOT the end for For One Year! You can expect a couple smaller releases for For One Year in the coming months! Changelog: Slyvie, the painter, has been added as a datable character Two new entertainers to hire after Ruby/Jasmine have left the entertainers Small updates for Effie: a new graphic when having fun together, plus more journal entries Fixed a crash that could occur when having fun with Death! Fixed a softlock that wou…
- For One Year's next release is on-schedule to drop in 1 week (+/- a couple days) - 6 April 2025
The title pretty much says it all! If testing wraps up early, expect a release as early as Thursday or Friday (the 10th or 11th this month); if testing reveals something super-nasty, it might be a few days later (the 14th, or possibly 15th). In the meanwhile, here's a little surprise for you: a digital book of 10 monsters for $1, available on itch.io: https://hushberrygames.itch.io/creatures-of-the-spillwilds Maybe it can give you some ideas for your next role-playing session, or maybe you just like the sound of some funky monsters (and a single feminine nipple). Either way, please check out Creatures of The Spillwilds. See you in about a week! 👋
- For One Year's next update will be releasing in about two weeks! - 2 April 2025
Just a quick announcement to let you know that For One Year's next release, which will take the game out of early access, will be landing in about two weeks! All the major content is done and ready. There's just a little more testing to do, and perhaps a few more season-specific graphics tossed in, and then it's release time! Thanks for waiting! 🙏 Y'all are the best!
- It's been a month! How's development of For One Year's next update going? - 18 March 2025
For One Year update status Writing & artwork for Sylvie - the synesthetic painter who will be For One Year's next dateable character - is looking good! The broad strokes are in place, and all the little details are getting filled in. Next will be play-testing, tweaking, and yet more testing, until everything's looking good! This release will also include new "entertainers"! I'm sure you noticed that once you completed the main entertainer story-line the dateable traveling entertainer is replaced by a couple no-name entertainers (well, they do have names, but you get what I mean: they're side characters just so that the entertainer's wagon still has a purpose). It was always the intention for there to be four of these "no-name" entertainers, to give you a little more variety in case you decide to keep visiting, but in order to not delay the initial release of the entertainers, two of the…
- For One Year's next update will bring the game out of "Early Access" - 18 February 2025
It's time to start wrapping up For One Year! Since it's release last April, the game has seen many improvements and additions: new mini-games, graphics, skills, lore, and, of course, characters to date♥~ bringing the total number of hand-written dateable characters to 12! But like the bakeries of old, why not throw in just one more and make it a baker's dozen? Development has begun on Sylvie, the Painter. You can expect to find her painting something from nature once per season, culminating in a fifth & final date before you finally return home. This will likely be For One Year's last big update for a while. Bug fixes and other tweaks are always on the table, but work has ALSO begun on Hushberry Games' next major game. It's still in the very early exploration stage, so not much can be said about it yet. Pixel graphics, a CRT filter, and Intiface Central integration are almost certain. C…
- Hushberry Games' next game, One Possible Future, is coming soon! - 7 January 2025
I've been hard at work on Hushberry Games' next game, One Possible Future, a sci-fi visual novel about a young woman who learns that the robots who work in her city are uniquely interested in their human cohabitants. One Possible Future is a much shorter game than For One Year - a pretty by-the-books visual novel with exploration elements, minimal mini games, and two possible endings (four, if you're feeling generous). One thing it shares in common with For One Year, however, is native support for all your bluetooth-enabled toys (or wired XBox 360 controller) via Intiface Central - have fun ;) Please consider wishlisting One Possible Future, and until its release please enjoy its all-original soundtrack, available for free on YouTube and on Soundcloud! (And with this game's release, Hushberry's attention will go back to For One Year! Look forward to future content updates here!)
- Experience winter-time travel and fun~♥... and a 25% discount! - 19 December 2024
For One Year has always represented the four seasons, and your romantic encounters may unfold differently depending on when they take place, especially during the colder months! If you haven't already given For One Year a try, take advantage of this 25% discount to enjoy the warm, 8-bit embrace of those you meet as you travel though the snow. When starting a new game, don't forget that you can choose the starting season, but also don't forget that fish and birds are scarcer in the winter! Fish and hunt often, and during appropriate weather conditions, in order to survive!
- September 2024 Release - 9 September 2024
This was one of the largest updates of For One Year! Adding three new characters was perhaps a bit overly-ambitious, and definitely caused the release to take longer than previous releases! And it wasn't just three new characters: a lot of changes and additions went into this update - For One Year is much closer to coming out of Early Access with this release! Thank you for your patience, and please enjoy this update ;) Quick warning before getting to the full list of changes: if you have an existing save, it may not load properly, and if it does load, it's likely to be confused on which scenes you have and have not completed. (Sorry! This has been improved for future releases!) Characters Three new characters to meet: Anika (the Ghost), Effie (the Historian), and Gris (the Thief) Oinoie, Chapter 5, now includes a couple full-screen graphics (more to come in future updates!) Oinoie now…
- What to expect in the next release - 20 August 2024
The next release of For One Year approaches! The major content additions, and a handful of smaller changes, are nearly finished. A few more lines of dialog; a couple more pictures; a thorough round of testing or two... and then it's time! Current estimated release date is in about two weeks, but it could get pushed to three - this has been a sizable update, and there's a lot to test! Here's what you can expect: * When continuing a game from a previous version of For One Year, you'll receive a warning that the game might not work 100% correctly (if possible, please finish up any current games before the next release!) * Made some improvements to game save & load to reduce the number of issues in games played across FUTURE versions of For One Year * Three new characters to meet: the Ghost, the Historian, and the Thief - see the previous announcement for more! * Also detailed in the previo…
- Next Release - Progress Report - 4 August 2024
You may recall that in the last update, only one new character was released... it seemed reasonable to expect the same for this release, yet, somehow, THREE new characters are nearing completion! Of course, the last release introduced the cooking mini-game, and that took a lot of development time! No time spent making mini-games apparently meant more time making new characters! (Seems obvious, in retrospect!) Though this release won't feature a new mini-game, there are several tweaks to existing mechanics, the most notable being that the traveler now has a maximum amount of STUFF they can carry - food, arrows, and treasures are counted separately, each with its own maximum! Putting limits on the traveler's carrying capacity has inspired several other changes: new skills to raise those limits, new treasures to find in caves, the ability to drop treasures to make room for new ones, and ot…
- Work on the next release has begun! - 28 July 2024
During development for the previous release, work had started on TWO new characters to meet: Nora the Inventor, and Anika... the Ghost! Anika didn't make it into that release, of course (though it's possible you've already found her Butterfly Charm necklace), but she'll absolutely be in this upcoming release! A ton of progress has been made on Anika, already: the four chapters of her story had already been largely written during the previous release cycle, and are now almost complete. It's a bit early to say what all will be in this release - old ideas are being revisited, and new ideas generated - but the cooking mini-game could use a little attention: there's zero instruction on how to play, and when you form groups of 2x3 or 3x2 ingredients, only a 2x2 block is removed! :| Getting a 2x3 or 3x2 block should obviously yield a super-cool bonus, not do nothing! So, yeah: expect some impr…
- The next major version of For One Year is NOW OUT! - 13 June 2024
The full list of changes is available in the previous post. Please enjoy cooking, new music and visuals, and your time with Nora ;) As for the next release? It's currently impossible to say exactly when that will come out, and what all it will contain, but at the very least writing for another new character has already begun!
- Next major release coming soon! - 10 June 2024
Big stuff A new character to meet: Nora, a traveling inventor and salesperson. Try out her triple-shot bow, and heavy rod, while you're hiking the country! A new mini-game: Cooking! There are a variety of pots and pans you can collect to cook with. (Make sure to talk to Robin on your way out, to get your first pot!) CRT filter, for extra nostalgia. After winning the game, you now unlock a music player. The "new game" UI has been simplified, making it easier to choose your character's appearance. Medium-ish stuff Fish and bird quantities now vary with the seasons, following patterns inspired by real life. At the conclusion of hunting, fishing (and cooking), the exact food that each bird, fish (and cooking ingredient provided) is now shown. There's a couple new "rare" treasures you can find in chests around the world. The game now prefers to show you episodes of stories you've already sta…
- Work on the next release is underway! - 30 May 2024
Work on the next release of For One Year is well underway. The two big updates in this release are the addition of Nora - a traveling inventor - and a cooking mini-game! Nora Nora is a traveling inventor selling her unique creations. Unfortunately you, the traveler, are much too poor to afford Nora's wares, but she's willing to strike a deal to let you borrow them, for a time! By meeting Nora, you'll get access to a weird bow, and even weirder fishing rod, to use in your travels. And, of course, you'll also have the opportunity to get to know her better, as well! ;) Cooking When you find food in the wild, you'll now have the option to either take it as-is, or cook it! If you do well at the cooking mini-game, you could end up with even more food! CRT Filter As a retro-styled game, it's almost embarrassing that For One Year didn't launch with this option! (Better late than never?) And mor…
- +1 Achievement, and some shopping skill tweaks - 28 April 2024
There's a new achievement, Bookworm, for seeing all the hints. The shopping skills have been changed: the first one now makes shopping cost no days at all!
- Added 6 Achievements (and gearing up for a Mac build) - 27 April 2024
The title pretty much says it all! I've coded up 6 new achievements real quick, and, yeah, am setting up to do some testing for a Mac build!
- For One Year is now available! - 27 April 2024
Travel! Survive! Have fun ;) For One Year is now available! I spent all last evening, and this morning, testing the game, cleaning up & clarifying some text, and cleaning up a few visual and audio issues. Just a reminder that For One Year is in early-access, but it is a fully-winnable (and loseable!) game, with several hand-written characters to meet, 21 achievements, a handful of minigames, an acoustic guitar soundtrack, support for bluetooth-enabled ~toys~, and a little bit more ;) As I continue to work on the game, you can expect more characters, more achievements, more minigames, and who know what else. If you enjoy For One Year, and would like to support and guide its development, please join me over at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HushberryGamesLLC If you find any bugs, typos, or other mistakes, or have a suggestions on how to make the game better, please let me know via the o…
- For One Year is on-schedule! (I even snuck in a few more achievements!) - 21 April 2024
I've got a developers-only build of For One Year up and running in Steam now, to do the very final rounds of testing, and get Valve's final "yep, looks good!" seal of approval. Once I have that, I'll feel comfortable announcing a REAL, ACTUAL RELEASE DATE. Until then, I'm going to continue to test and clean up little things I'm not quiiiiite happy with. SO: what can you expect from the first release? A complete game you can win... and lose! Two pre-set difficulty settings, and a difficulty setting customizer. 4 mini-games: fishing, hunting, cave-exploring, and a tavern card game. 6 characters to meet and date through visual novel-style encounters. Each date features unique full-screen images~♥ 60+ MORE full-screen images across 18 villager NPCs that you'll encounter in procedurally-generated mini-VN "hookups". 1 faefolk or*y in the woods with several of its own full-screen images. Custo…
