- Small back end touch ups. - 24 November 2025
A small back end update to fix a security issue and replace some scripts. Functionally nothing has changed but a few scripts have been looked over and edited to improve stability. Also patched a security problem in Unity that was found and fixed by Unity. This game is a flop but I haven't forgotten it. It has too many controls and became something different to it's original plan. Originally it was supposed to be a top down capital ship combat game, but it became an arcade game, and the mechanics did not mesh well with a faster pace style game play. Lessons have been learned. I will probably come back to try and fix it, or make a squeal that fixes all the issues and delivers more what the game was supposed to be. Thank you for playing Flank Speed, this is not the end.
- 1.0 - 31 August 2024
I’ve been putting off finishing Flank Speed due to not having the time to figure out the multiplayer, but I don’t want people to think it’s abandoned because it’s not. So I implemented some updates, added more randomness to the enemy spawns in the survival modes, and fixed a few issues. I’ve gotten some feedback from players and overall it seems it’s fine as an arcade game and multiplayer might not add much to it. I will continue to add fixes to the game, I want to add a toggle to change the controls so people who don’t like Newtonian physics can still enjoy it. And if I can figure out multiplayer better I will add it into it. But for the time being I removed the multiplayer coming soon think in the menu. I still plan it but I’m not sure when. Fortunately Flank Speed isn’t a terribly good seller so I don’t feel like I’m letting many people down. But it was made as a simple arcade game t…
- Next update and thanks - 3 July 2024
Been a rough launch but that works out as ive not had time to really work on fixing the multiplayer. the next update will have a bunch of fixes and changes as well as the multiplayer. I just need to set time aside to finish it and get some help with it. Until then the rest of it is good to go, it's still what I set out for it to be, a simple space shooter. Flank Speed will be a stable game. Once it gets multiplayer it will remain pretty static after that. Only getting fixes as needed and possibly additions to the story mode over time (which will be free updates and not DLC because lets be real.) All that being said I have learned a lot from this so far. Will take the mistakes and successes from Flank Speed and build upon them for my next multiplayer game. Flank Speed is a very basic game, and was made as a very basic game to learn things needed for future projects. For the few who have…
- 0.5.5 - 25 May 2024
Just a small update fixing a few under the hood things and adding a short tutorial level
- Gameplay issues and feedback - 7 May 2024
With the game out I’ve gotten some feedback from people. A few expected bugs, but the two biggest concerns I’ve received are the controls can be confusing and the gameplay explanations are lacking. Both valid concerns. I will work on a short tutorial that will teach all the controls to make it easier then just reading a page of text. Hopefully that will help with controls confusion. As for the gameplay, the ships are made to feel like they have weight. They don’t control like cars or airplanes they control like they are on an ice rink. I can change the forces a little to make them more responsive, but the Newtonian controls are a central game mechanic. I will strive to improve them but I can’t completely change them. I have also had a couple people voice confusion about the story mode codes. At the end of each level you get a code for the next level. You can play the entire story mode w…
- Flank Speed released - 3 May 2024
The first build of Flank Speed has been released! Multiplayer is still being worked on but should be ready soon. I spent the last few days testing and testing and testing to catch bugs but there will certainly still be some. If you find bugs feel free to post about them and describe what you were doing when it happened. Same with any game breaking things you encounter. Gameplay improvement suggestions are also welcome. I will be working to improve the enemy AI a bit as I’m still not 100% happy with it. I hope it’s playable, this is technically my first real game as the last one I made was a joke with no gameplay. But I will keep improving it and adding to it the best I can. If it’s lack luster now I will try my best to tackle flaws and issues to make it better!
- Release and multiplayer - 14 April 2024
Flank Speed is very near release. The only area still being worked on is the online multiplayer. It will happen but if I can’t get it working properly within the next couple weeks Flank Speed will initially release without it and have it patched in at a later date. This isn’t ideal but the game is otherwise done and I do not want it sitting in “coming soon” forever. Thank you to all who are interested in the game, I hope people find it fun upon release with or without the multiplayer. It’s still ultimately a single player arcade game so for those who are more interested in the arcade aspect anyway this won’t be a big inconvenience. More single player content is also planned in the future so stay tuned. But Multiplayer is a core game mode and it will be in the game one way or another, even if it takes a bit more time. So if the multiplayer is the feature you are most interested in, keep…
