- Hotfix 0.22.1 - 29 June 2026
Hello everyone,Here's a hotfix addressing a bug discovered after the release of update 0.22.Also, keep in mind that custom fonts installed on the OS must be installed for all users, otherwise they might not be exposed by the OS when system fonts are requested. (In Windows 11: Right click the font file -> show more options -> Install for all users)Fixes Fixed a rendering issue where certain custom fonts would fail to render and would display the default font instead.
- Update 0.22 - 29 June 2026
Hello everyone,Update 0.22 is now live 🎉This update focuses on a number of major technical challenges that have been postponed throughout Early Access due to the time and complexity required to address them. Unfortunately, by the time I got to them, I had also reached a stage where I could no longer sustain working full-time on the project. The combination of these factors pushed back the consistent monthly update schedule that I’ve maintained throughout Early Access significantly.I’m still figuring out the best approach for future updates. There are two main options: smaller, more frequent monthly updates, or updates with a similar scope to previous releases that ship simply when they are ready. For now, I’ve decided to go with the latter. This means updates may be less structured, but the goal remains the same: continue making progress and, ideally, reach the stable version 1.0 with…
- Update 0.21 - 12 March 2026
Hello everyone,Update 0.21 is now live 🎉A large portion of recent work has gone into building the core systems required for localization support across the entire application. The underlying architecture that will drive localization is now complete, but the actual translation work is only just beginning. As a result, this update focuses mostly on suggestions, fixes, and continued polishing of existing systems. This includes quality-of-life improvements, UI adjustments, and tackling some of the more time-consuming bugs that had previously been postponed due to the amount of work required to properly solve them.Alongside this, there has also been a fair amount of internal work on optimization and code architecture. Several core systems were cleaned up and refactored to reduce unnecessary overhead, improve runtime performance, and make the codebase easier to maintain. As always, thank you f…
- Update 0.20 - 19 January 2026
Hello everyone,Update 0.20 is now live 🎉An exporter issue was reported after the December update, but I couldn't hotfix it earlier because I forgot to create a clean v0.19 snapshot before the holidays, so the focus shifted to finalizing and releasing 0.20 earlier than planned.A large part of this update focuses on under the hood improvements, especially around database performance, memory usage, and responsiveness. Asset loading times should be faster, memory spikes reduced, and some workflows are now smoother. See the full patch notes for details. It also includes some user requests, alongside a new Package Manager, editor refinements, and a round of fixes and polish.Note: I’ll remove the 'Beta – v0.14.1 Downgrade (Pre-database changes)' branch very soon. The on-demand database update greatly improved scalability, but initially introduced more frequent loading interruptions for users w…

The exporter will add the additional cards to the page, or flow to additional pages if needed.Alongside this, the editing experience has received major improvements, including a fully reworked grid system and viewport system with smoother zooming, sharper visuals, and better overall performance. The font selection menu, editing controls, and general UI have also been refined to make designing and managing cards faster and more intuitive.CSV NOTE: Every old column has been moved one cell to the right, as the first column now serves to set the quantity of each card to export. - Update 0.16 - 6 September 2025
Hello everyone, This update focuses on deep memory and performance improvements following continued work on the new database and recent backend changes. The goal is to deliver a smoother, more stable experience across all hardware, reducing overhead on lower-end systems while making better use of resources on powerful PCs. These improvements also free up system resources for future features. The biggest improvement most users will notice is that opening categories in the asset browser is now drastically faster after the first initial load, and that Card Engine will use much less memory in projects with a lot of custom assets. As always, please continue to post your bug reports and feedback in the Card Engine discord server or the Community Hub. Memory & Performance Optimizations General Card Engine now unloads assets less aggressively, reducing active CPU overhead Sequential loading of…

- Update 0.15 - 7 August 2025
Hello everyone, update 0.15 is now live. This update has taken quite a bit longer than usual, which is primarily due to some massive changes to critical systems that also required a lot of testing to prevent bugs. This update brings major improvements to memory usage, saving, and overall stability to meet new requirements and expectations. A significant portion of the backend has been reworked to support these changes.Backup Reminder: Creating backups periodically is always a good practice, especially with early access software. Your projects can be found in your Documents folder:(E.g. C:\\Users\\USERNAME\\Documents\\Card Engine\\Projects) DatabaseThe old database system loaded everything into memory when opening a project. While this ensured a smooth experience with little to no loading, it did not scale well. As the asset browser grew with built in assets plus your custom assets, it led…
- Hotfix 0.14.1 - 2 June 2025
Hello everyone, Here is a hotfix to address some recent issues. Bug reports and feedback are always welcome, either on the Community Hub or our official Discord server. - Update 0.14 – Text variables, changes & improvements - 12 May 2025
Hello everyone, This update introduces a text variable system, enhanced UI, improved image handling in the editor, and a variety of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. Reminder: Don't forget to back up your project files every now and then! Bug reports and feedback are always welcome, either on the Community Hub or our official Discord server. Fred, The Developer Read the full patch notes below: New Added a text variables system. Built on the simple foundation of ‘Replace this’ → ‘With this’. For example, you input {myVariable} in the variable field, and PREVIEW in the formatting field in the Variables window. You can now simply input {myVariable} when editing a card text as usual, and when the text is rendered on a card, it will format to a bold PREVIEW text with a big icon. I also added a shortcut to the documentation on the Frostzone website for variables in this new window A…
- One year later - 3 May 2025
It’s been one year since Card Engine entered Early Access. On the release day, Card Engine saw just a few sales and two reviews. But as my first commercial project, I wanted to take it seriously, for the people who chose to support it. I committed to a roadmap, with the long-term goal of building a flexible, affordable, standalone card design framework for creating, managing, and exporting TCG-style cards as image files. About a month after launch, I published that roadmap. Since then, many items has been checked off though monthly-ish updates, with development guided by community feedback. The roadmap remains the clearest reflection of what’s been done - and what’s ahead. The Vision Going Forward The goal remains: a general-purpose card creation tool that’s fully featured and self-contained. I’m aiming for a full release in Q4 2025, though that timeline will be re-evaluated. There won’…

Hello everyone, Here is a hotfix to address some recent CSV-related issues. Bug reports and feedback are always welcome, either on the Community Hub or our official Discord server. Fred, The Developer Fixes Fixed an issue where CSV importing failed due to region-based delimiter changes in external editors. Card Engine now auto-detects , or ; delimiters when importing Fixed an issue where CSV importing could fail due to external editors breaking the expected format. CSV importing to Card Engine is now more flexible and can handle formatting variations Changes Tag-based CSV data now applies to all elements with the same tag, not just the first element found. For example, multiple "Health" tagged texts will now all receive the data from the CSV

Don't forget to back up your projects every now and then! Key Highlights: loading is now more responsive Atomic save system prevents data loss from external factors like power failures CSV Import/Export makes managing card data easy Various fixes and optimizations for better stability Bug reports and feedback are always welcome, either on the Community Hub or our official Discord server. Fred, The Developer Read the full patch notes below: Improvements Reduced the size of several headers Project loading now tracks individual tasks in the database instead of showing a simple 0/1 task count, so that users with massive projects don’t think the app is frozen Dynamic batching makes loading smoother. Small projects should no longer f…
- Small Update 0.12.1 - Text rendering & Increased shadow distance - 9 March 2025
Hello, everyone. This update brings a few important fixes and changes to text rendering. Changes The maximum shadow distance for images and text has been doubled. (Your existing settings will scale accordingly. For example, a previous value of 90 will now be 45.) Expanded font atlas size to support more outline and shadow data per character, allowing for rendering shadows even at high outline values. Fixes Fixed some artifacts caused by large outline values when using certain fonts Fixed pixelated text edges on exported cards Fixed an issue with outline color when using custom fonts Note: Due to new sampling methods and font atlas adjustments, you may notice slight differences in text appearance.
