A fully professional Japanese version of Trolls vs Vikings: Reborn has been in the works for a while, and we’re very happy to say that it has now launched!This is actually the first Megapop game ever to launch with a professionally made Japanese version, which makes this a pretty special milestone for us.For this work we’ve partnered with the local publisher Locatch. The Game Design students at Kristiania University of Applied Sciences have now wrapped up the pre-production and concept phases for their very own version of Trolls vs Vikings!It all began with 16 student-developed game concepts, narrowed down to 8 finalists. Over the past few weeks, the students have created prototypes, written full Game Design Documents (GDDs), built Gantt charts for production planning, explored art styles, and done everything it takes to craft a professional game pitch. It’s been a super busy period for us here at Megapop, with moving the company to shiny new offices, and developing a Steam demo on our upcoming city-builder ‘Life Below’ being key culprits. 🎉 First Post-Launch Patch! Hey everyone! Whey! It’s time for our first update after launch. This one’s all about fixing bugs and improving screen and localization issues. Instead of waiting to roll these into a bigger content patch, we decided to swing them out quickly. Here’s what’s included: 🔤 Localization & UI A systemic localization update based on reports from Spanish-speaking players. Some UI screens didn’t display the proper text or language version—this should now be resolved. Bonus: This fix improves the experience for all other non-English languages too. “Normal mode” has been renamed to “Easy” This better reflects the actual difficulty of that mode. Whey! Trolls vs Vikings Reborn is now out, and we’re moving into the post-launch period. We plan to keep updating the game as we move forward and hope you’ll join us on that journey. The First Week – A Wild Ride It’s been an eventful week (it’s never quiet at an indie games studio!). We’ve been closely following the general chatter, reviews, and feedback around the game while running ads, sending out keys to curators, influencers, and press, and generally doing PR while trying to understand what’s been working—and what hasn’t—during this first week of Reborn. - Revamping Viking animations for Reborn - 11 March 2025
We wanted to give some shine to the various people working on Trolls vs Vikings Reborn. We have already told you a bit about the music (Aleksandar), and today about the new animations we put into the game. We made all new Vikings models for Reborn, and naturally then made all new Vikings animations to give them more oomph and “weight”. For this we knew of no better animator than Aslak Helgensen, from Rain Games, who we hired as a freelancer on Trolls Reborn. Last year Aslak was incredibly enough nominated for the Annie Awards for his animation work on Teslagrad 2. This is the most prestigious award to recognizing excellence in animation across film, television, and video games, so we know Aslak is a top-shelf animator. Finally, the day is here. The day when we finally unleash Trolls vs Vikings as a premium experience to y’all. To me personally it’s a bit of a dream come true, as the game is now, finally, made with a vision and complexity worthy of a hardcore gamer. Or, so we like to believe. Over these last few weeks, we have been able to test the game in two demos weeks at Steam, and thankfully it seems well polished, stable and with an, ahem, appropriate difficulty curve. We got a lot of really nice feedback too, so hopefully that helps to get even more players enjoying it. We have already lined up the three first patches for the game, and beyond that we promise to listen for any ideas, tweaks or updates you feel would make the game even better. We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone who played the Trolls demo during Next Fest. We are trollishly grateful you spent your valuable time on the game, and hopefully you had fun doing it! It sounds like it sits really well for most players, from the feedback we’re getting. To us devs it feels like the Reborn game, and the new balance, works as we had hoped it would. As expected, the brutal difficulty is a challenge. But not an impossible one! During Next Fest we had tens of thousands of visitors to the Trolls site here on Steam, and we (thankfully) once again saw we had a stable build for y’all. We did get reports on some new bugs we didn’t know about, so we’ve been looking into them to fix them. Some of them were save related, so as a result today we implemented Steam cloudsave. - A Bit of Spiritual Practice for Y’all – The Shaman’s Path - 26 February 2025
One of the special missions we’re excited for you to try during Steam Next Fest is The Shaman’s Path! It highlights the active Shaman units in the game while bringing a mix of tactical choices—you can go full healing, full attack, or anything in between. The original version of this mission popped up around 2015, focusing on beginner-level gameplay. Not so in the Reborn edition! We’ve cranked up the challenge with two more complex versions. (At least we think they're tough—we’ve played so much we might be a little blind to what’s actually difficult.) This string of five missions revolves around Zap and Doc, two brothers who chose the Shaman path—calling on ancient Troll gods to channel power onto the battlefield.
