  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2u - 11 June 2026

Negative Health EnemiesIt was possible to re-encounter an enemy who was already dead. This could prevent players from reaching areas in dungeons. I just included a check to make sure enemies had health before triggering the encounter, so this should no longer happen. Text IssuesThere were a couple text issues, grammar and text going over the edge of the box, that have been addressed.

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2t - 30 May 2026

Trader/MonstersThere was a bug that caused some hostile monsters to be falsely identified as traders. This would cause the game to be locked, with the player unable to engage in combat or stealth (he game thinking it's a trader) or in dialogue (the game thinking it's a hostile monster). I believe I understand why this was happening, and I removed the possibility of monsters somehow getting assigned as traders. Input DelaySome players were feeling that the game was too sensitive to movement input, so I have added an optional "input_delay" variable in the game's option file. To change it:Run the Game:First run the game, open the options panel, and click "Apply"Exit the game.Find the Options File:Go to:C:\\Users\\-Your Username-\\AppData\\Local\\CyclopeanFind the "Options_7.cfg" file and scroll to the bottom.Change the Option:change:INPUT DELAY,1 to:INPUT DELAY,2 Save the FIle.You can try…

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2s - 19 May 2026

Keyboard IssueWhen using keyboard controls, unequipping items was failing to be handled properly. I was able to figure out the problem and it seems to be working as intended now.Lock Pick IssuePicking locks was supposed to succeed if you rolled equal to or higher than the required amount. I forgot the equals sign in the script though, so it would fail if you hit the exact number. Should be working now.Cats in ChestsCats were spawning in chests, and getting stuck on the same tile. I think it's fixed now, but this one is tougher to test. Let me know if you see this happen again. Note: If you already encountered this in a dungeon, and a cat was spawned on a chest, it will still be there. But the game should prevent this from happening again in the future.Treasure Chart MisplacedA treasure chart was misplaced in an inaccessible area. I have moved it so you should be able to reach it. The "b…

  • Proton/WINE Mono Sound Issue Workaround - 17 May 2026

If you are using Steamdeck or WINE on Linux, you will be happy to know that I have identified the problem causing audio to come out of only one speaker. The problem is in WINE/Proton and how it handles audio using DirectSound. I have submitted a full compatibility report to the folks at Valve working on Proton, and hopefully they will be able to address it at some point. But for now, there is a workaround that you can do to get it to operate correctly (if you're into that sort of thing). Have a look at the fix here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2958790/discussions/0/842880102665635946/ Hopefully this solves it for anyone facing this issue. Please let me know if it worked or not, and feel free to leave a comment if you had to try some other stuff to get it to work.

  • Small Update - 30 March 2026

The Remedy Trader was labeled incorrectly as Book Trader.

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2r - 29 March 2026

A couple players have encountered a strange bug that I am unable to reproduce. In dungeons you can access the map with "m" and if you want to place a custom map marker, you can press "space" to do so. Occasionally, it seems to produce a wall object that will get the player stuck on that grid space, unable to escape. So far, no matter what I have tried, I cannot seem to get this error to occur. Linux Related? The most recent report comes from a person playing on Linux, so I am wondering if that might be part of the problem. I cannot remember what the previous player was using. If anyone has seen this bug, please report in the comments and let me know which platform was being used. Flying BlindSo I am trying to troubleshoot the bug without being able to reproduce it on my system for now. I moved the custom map marker so it will appear slightly above the player's head now. It is a passable e…

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2q - 15 March 2026

This update attempts to make the game more stable. Recent changes in order to address other bugs, like the game crashing when trying to rename a save file, seem to have made the game unstable. It's hard to know for sure whether is is actually less stable, or if players who happen to experience existing instability are just posting more often right now, due to the ongoing sale. In any case, I did attempt to adjust the way the game generates its save folder, which seems to be at the heart of all these issues. Cyclopean II has also been plagued by this issue, and was experiencing even more problems, so I am learning from both games and attempting to get things right. So the change I made is from the most recent update to Cyclopean II, where it definitely improved stability. I am hoping it also helps here.

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2p - 13 March 2026

Update 1.1.2pI just updated the game again. This time, I have added an option to restore the old, lerping camera. I actually like the way the old camera moves, but a lot of players requested that it move differently. The old version also seems to produce more visual anomalies, especially on the surface. Read about how to restore the old camera below... Mouse UpdateSince its inception I have heard complains about the game's weird mouse movement issues. A player recommended having an option to turn off any attempt to alter the mouse speed, and it made perfect sense to me. So much sense that I wondered why I would not have done it before. Well I was surprised to find out that I actually did do this, and it is the "Windows Mouse" option in the options panel. Windows Mouse simply sets the game's mouse pointer exactly where your Windows Mouse pointer is currently positioned. It does not speed…

  • Testing Branch Updated to Version 1.1.2m - 9 March 2026

New Camera Movement - I was able to modify the camera movement so that it is more straightforward. It lo longer lurches forward quickly then slows down, rather it moves at a consistent rate and stops right when it reaches its goal. A lot of players have asked for something like this, and I finally figured out how to do it.TestIf you are interested in trying this, right click on "Cyclopean > Properties > Game Versions and Betas" and choose "testing" from the list. I will probably make this the default camera, and only add an option for the old version if I am asked to do so. Currently, the testing branch is otherwise identical to the main branch.

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2l - 2 March 2026

Ally XPThe game will now show how much XP your allies gain in the action log. Allies gain experience differently than the player. Instead of gaining XP after defeating an enemy, your allies will gain experience only when they actually hit an enemy in combat. ManualI've also updated the manual to reflect some of the changes made to the game since its release.

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2j - 25 February 2026

Full ScreenThere was a problem with going to full screen when your monitor was not a 16:9 ratio. Now i have tested it on a more narrow monitor, as well as a wider monitor, and it seems to be working properly.

  • Cyclopean: The Great Abyss - Official Soundtrack - 23 January 2026

After much demand, the soundtrack is finally here!Okay, it was just one guy who asked for it, but that's more than all my previous games so I consider it a positive step.

  • We Made the Top 100 in Indie of the Year! - 12 December 2025

Cyclopean: The Great Abyss actually has a real shot at getting the "Indie of the Year" award over on IndieDB. It has made it into the top 100, so there is another 8 days of voting to be done. CLICK HERE TO VOTE! --> https://www.indiedb.com/games/cyclopeanIndieDB is a really great site, that actually allows organic activity to drive their algorithms. My games, after writing an article or posting some news, have often gone to the number one slot on the home-page, something almost unheard of on other, more controlled sites. So as far as Indie websites go, it seems to embody the Indie spirit more than most. However, Cyclopean is up against some stiff competition, even in just the RPG genre. Games like Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, DELTARUNE and Monsters of Mican among others. So if this is going to happen, it will require a concerted effort, so don't hesitate to share this with your friends…

  • Indie of the Year! - 9 December 2025

Cyclopean: The Great Abyss has a shot at getting the "Indie of the Year" award over on IndieDB. https://www.indiedb.com/games/cyclopeanI would greatly appreciate anyone who enjoyed the game to go vote for it. If the game gets into the top 100 (one of my previous games did make it this far) it can get a lot of visibility. As a solo developer, every little bit helps, so I hope you would consider it :)

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2i - 20 November 2025

Big Bad Bugs!A small number of new, but significant bugs have been identified and fixed. Save/Load Data ErrorThe biggest bug of recent times has been this data loss issue. I posted some details about it in the "Known Bugs" thread earlier today, if you need to know some details about it. But to keep a long story short, you should no longer have to worry about it. The good news is that I was able to reproduce it successfully once I had a closer look at the code, and it was very obvious in terms of how to resolve it. So I am happy to see that one checked off the list.Marshal Allies IssueMarshalling allies is supposed to direct enemy attacks towards the ally, and away from the player-character. This was compromised by a previous update, and it became kind of random whether the enemy would attack the ally or the character. It should be working as designed again...Nets UpdateIt seems i nerfed…

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2h - 17 November 2025

Lots of Bugs!Several new bugs have been identified and fixed. Torch IssueThe torch should be removing itself from your inventory when it is used up. For some reason some spent torches would stay in the inventory, causing weird issues. I am not 100% sure I have fixed it, but I found a very likely cause and removed that. Let me know if you encounter this again.Quicksave and Quickload Are Back!So there was a slight delay after loading/quickloading a game, and it was possible to attempt to save the game while it was still loading. I suspect this may have been at the root of the data loss issue one player faced. I was not, however, able to reproduce the problem. I did create a check that prevents the game from saving if it is in the process of loading, or loading if it is in the process of saving, so hopefully this will prevent any future data issues with your saved games. I've only seen one…

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2g - DEMO UPDATED - 12 November 2025

DEMO UPDATE:I just updated the demo. There was a problem with some of the maze areas in the Vaults of Zin, that would allow players to get "outside" of the level into a kind of dark, void area. You can read more about how this problem occurred and how it was fixed here... https://steamcommunity.com/app/2958790/discussions/0/666096879249241746/ and here...So, while I fixed the problem a while ago, I believe it was still present in the free demo, so players bringing their game from the demo could still encounter the bug. Other BugsSeveral other bugs have been identified and fixed. One major bug has been addressed but I am not quite sure if it is fixed or not, so I will be asking for feedback from players.Nightgaunt IssuesThere was a certain circumstance in which having a Nightgaunt take you to a dungeon could reset that dungeon's map. I believe this is resolved. I was able to reproduce th…

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2f - 1 September 2025

So if you had unlocked the door to Sarkomand, it worked, and if you re-entered the dungeon, it would remain unlocked. However, there is a way in this game to "re-form" the dungeons, and if that happened, then the door would again be locked. With the key already found, and taken from your inventory, there was no longer a way to unlock it!So now the game will remember if you had unlocked it, and it should remain unlocked.However...If all of this happened before this update, then I'm afraid that door will forever locked. However! If you really me want to, I can explain how to modify your save game file so it will unlock again.

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2e - 1 September 2025

I think this should be the final mouse update. The Options menu will now allow you to adjust the Windows Mouse speed directly. Previously I was adjusting the (optional) Windows Mouse automatically, based on the size of the game window. Well it seems that the Windows Mouse speed (which is a number from 1-20) does not have a linear calculation, so if I set it to 4 (for instance) it is not half the speed of 8, as I had assumed. To answer this problem, I am just going to allow players to set the speed of the mouse directly in the Options menu. So now the mouse slider will be used for both Windows Mouse Mode as well as standard mode. If you opt to use Windows mouse mode, the slider number will change to your current Windows Mouse speed. You will see that it will respond much faster in the game window (since the window is scaled) so you can use the slider to adjust the speed directly. I recom…

  • Game Updated to Version 1.1.2d - 27 August 2025

I got feedback that "Alt-Tab" would close the game window without re-setting the mouse to your default Windows speed. I have updated the script to account for this possibility and it seems to work correctly now.
