- Play your way: customizable game modes in Pioneers! - 2 October 2026
Hi Tamers! Another week has passed, and we want to continue sharing information about the project with you! As the Temtem Pioneers backing campaign reached 500% funding, and another Stretch Goal was completed successfully, we unlocked a new feature for the full game: server customization options, and customized game modes! We were particularly excited about this Stretch Goal because it’s going to give you so much control over your player experience that you might feel like you and your friends aren’t even playing the same game! We know there are many kinds of players out there, and we want to give you the opportunity to tailor the game to your liking, as much as possible! While we haven’t progressed really far with this feature, we can share with you some of our current plans! Through this feature you'll get to customize your servers with the ruleset you prefer, and adapt the experience…
- New Temtem: Dracub and Drackle! - 25 September 2026
The most boisterous duo to ever grace the Downbelow, please give a warm welcome to Dracub and Drackle! Are they laughing at you, or are they laughing with you? Verdict at the end of the update! Let’s start from the beginning: here’s Dracub! Well, it’s pretty clear that we were inspired by bats for this Temtem, right? We wanted to show its Earth/Wind typing in its design, so some of the details are quite literally made of stone, giving this duo a tough look. Personality-wise, these fun-loving tricksters are ready to laugh at everything! Dracub’s name comes from Dracula + cub, paying homage to the most famous vampire in history. Like most bats, Dracub prefers dark environments, so you’ll find him in the Caves across the Downbelow. Dracub is one cute, big-eyed little guy, but as you improve and train it, you’ll soon find yourself with a Drackle partner: a fierce evolution with a more aggre…
- The bounty of the Downbelow! Gathering and resources - 18 September 2026
Hello, Tamers! On another end-of-the-week entry We’re making sure we cover the entire gameplay loop in Temtem: Pioneers, so today we’ll be talking about the gathering of resources and the many ways to use them you’ll have! Resources are a key piece in your Downbelow journey, and they’re the fuel for everything you do! Want to create Trinkets? They’re crafted with resources. Want to capture Temtem? TemCards are also crafted with resources. Want to have a Mount? The saddle is crafted with resources, and so forth and so forth! Resources cover a wide array of items: there’s wood, stones, crystals, ores, mushrooms, berries… A single element can drop different types of resources, too, like a bush dropping fiber and berries. Some of the resources you find in the Downbelow can be simply picked up from the ground without the need of a tool, but many will require a tool before they can be farmed.…
- Shining beautifully: Auri and Iris Temtem will be in Pioneers! - 10 September 2026
Hello, Tamers! Really juicy update today as we cover the two new color versions that will appear in Temtem Pioneers! Thanks to having reached our fifth Stretch Goal in the backing campaign, Auri and Iris Tems will appear in the Downbelow! Enjoy having 4 different color variations for your Tems, and never run out of stuff to tame! Let’s talk a bit about Luma, Umbra, Auri and Iris, and maybe even show a teensy tiny spoiler of the latter! For those who are new to the Temtem universe, Tems can spawn in their normal color scheme, or in one of the (now 4) color variations in Temtem: Pioneers. Each color variation has a distinct look: Lumas are Tems with different color schemes and sparkling effects and trail; Umbras are their gothic counterpart, with a dark purple and black color scheme, and dark, hazy effects and trail; Auri, like their name might have given away, will be golden Temtem, and…
- Temtem of class: Pedigree in Pioneers! - 4 September 2026
Hello, Tamers! Friday, I'm in love! We’re back with another update, this time on Pedigree, the nifty new system that will improve Temtem species just by interacting with them in many ways! Pedigree is a new feature that we’ll be introducing in Temtem: Pioneers, and it will work towards the improvement of entire species of Temtem. Pedigree is measured in levels, and each species has its own level, independent from all the others. This level is tied to the Tamer, so other Tamers joining your server will start with Pedigree at 0 for all species, the same way it would happen to us if we joined a friend’s server. Each Pedigree level adds positive bonuses to the entire species! These bonuses can range from passive buffs and stat increases, to unlocking new Techniques, improvements for Techs, extra Dashes, the ability to apply status conditions, and more! Notice how the Banapi with higher Pedi…
- New Temtem: Venito! - 28 August 2026
A frontier as unexplored and intriguing as the Downbelow houses many of the Temtem that populate the Archipelago, but there are also some new creatures that the Tamers above have never seen before. As a castaway in the Downbelow, you’ll be one of the first Tamers to meet these new species. Temtem in the Downbelow, like their counterparts above, can be battled, defeated, and tamed. Since you are on your way to face all these new creatures, please pay attention to this second introduction for another one of the first new Tems you’ll encounter. Be it ally or foe, these new Temtem are sure to impress and delight you! Bzzt! The sound jolts you awake: when did a mosquito find its way inside your room? Then you remember this is no mosquito. It’s your partner Venito, happily buzzing around, waiting to go on your next adventure. Venito - Wind/Toxic Sharply landing on your hearts! Everyone, welco…
- Questing through the Downbelow - 22 August 2026
Hello, Tamers! We're a bit late on the weekly update this week, but that's because we posted our first devblog yesterday!! Today we talk about the quests in Temtem: Pioneers Quests, like in most games, will be the main system to guide you forward and help you advance in your Downbelow story. It’s sometimes daunting to find oneself in such a large world without a goal, but quests can help you feel a sense of direction until you create goals of your own. You’ll find main quests, which must be completed to further progress, and side quests, which are optional, but all of them will be beneficial to complete! Some quests will be divided into steps, which are actions to complete before the quest can be marked complete. Some steps must be achieved in order, while others will not require you to follow any order. You will come across quests naturally as you explore the Downbelow, as you advance…
- Downbelow Field Notes #1: Uncovering the Depths - 21 August 2026
Hi, Tamers! Welcome to the very first entry in our Downbelow Field Notes series! Our goal with these updates is to bring you along for the ride as we explore and build the world of Temtem: Pioneers. We want to share exciting progress, give you a peek behind the curtain at what exploring the Downbelow will actually feel like, and laugh together at a few bizarre mishaps along the way. For those of you who are more visual, you can find the video here! In this first edition, we’re diving into the subterranean world to look at how we’re constructing the Downbelow’s cave system, adding explosive visuals to new biomes, bringing natural soundscapes to life, and refining the look and feel of moment-to-moment exploration. Let's dig in! Environmental Effects Every region of the Downbelow has its own distinct identity, and making these ecosystems feel reactive as you explore the surface is key to i…
- Face the bosses of the Downbelow! - 14 August 2026
Hello again, Tamers! We hope you’ve been enjoying the end-of-the-week updates, and oooh are you in for a treat today! Let’s talk about the guardians of the Downbelow: let’s talk about bosses! You’ve already heard a couple things about bosses, since we’ve mentioned them in a few posts, even shown you a hint in the trailer, but today they bare their fangs for everyone to see. Bosses are Temtem that have grown, both in size and power, beyond their wild counterparts. In doing so they have become guardians of the land, fierce protectors that will not take lightly to you wanting to get past them. Of course, you must get past them: bosses will block access to certain biomes, but also to certain resources needed to progress further, improve further and discover new recipes. They’re gatekeepers of both locations and progress, so tackling them is unavoidable. Bosses have a special kit of techniqu…
- New Temtem: Elving! - 7 August 2026
Elving - Neutral/Wind Prepare the red carpet, for here comes the sassiest bird you’ve ever seen! Elving will surely make a grand entry in your life and squad, and add huuuuuge pizzazz to your adventure. This Neutral/Wind Temtem is clearly inspired by flamingos, and has kept the…
- Our house in the middle of the Downbelow! - 31 July 2026
HIIIII Tamers! Veeeery exciting update today because we’re going to talk about creating a home away from home: building and housing in the Downbelow. Building is another feature we’ve spent a lot of time designing and trying to perfect, so it's definitely a big leg of Temtem: Pioneers, even if it’s less prominent than exploration and combat. Picture this: you just fell from an airship, no people around, only Tems. Sleeping in the open is rough, so you decide to build a house. Congratulations on wanting to become a homeowner! First you’ve got to locate the plot for your dream house. You can build a house in any Biome in Temtem: Pioneers, but there are some terrain limitations! You cannot build directly on top of water, or on the slope of a mountain, so you need to find a surface that’s more or less flat. Most terrain inclination can, however, be circumvented with the use of what we curre…
- Visit the Dark Forest biome! - 24 July 2026
Hello, Tamers! We're back here again with an update on Temtem: Pioneers, a glimpse into the world of the new game we're making. It's also my birthday today! Thanks to having hit a Stretch Goal with everyone's support, the awesomely spooky Dark Forest will be another Biome in Temtem: Pioneers! Enjoy making your way through bioluminescent flora in a dark, dusky region. Early mockup of the original idea for the Biome. Final results may differ Venture off the beaten path: The Dark Forest is a mysterious and alluring zone that you’ll come across while you explore the Downbelow. Since the Pansun will be right above it, its warm rays will never touch the surface of the Dark Forest, hence its name. Your only source of light as you explore will come from its enchanting glow-in-the-dark plants. Right now we’re planning a big Dark Forest area on its own, but we’ll also try to include another zone…
- Player creation in Pioneers! - 16 July 2026
Hiii Tamers! We meet again here, like every week! Please enjoy today’s update on character creation! Your Tems are definitely important in the Downbelow, but the one creature you’ll be seeing almost permanently on your screen is you! Your Tamer is a very important factor in your adventure through the Downbelow. You’ll step into the Character creation menu right as you start the game for the first time, and your selected character will appear in the opening scene, the Narwhal situation. Although we adore the OG Temtem characters, we’ve tried to offer more control over the creation of your character in Temtem: Pioneers. This time around, you’ll have more options, and you’ll be able to select your character’s body type, height, width, complexion, skin tone and decorations. Some of these can be manually adjusted with a series of sliders. As for the face of your character, you’ll also be abl…
- New Temtem: Najaria! - 10 July 2026
Hello! Please excuse my abscense last week! Here's our weekly meeting to discover more about Temtem: Pioneers! Najaria - Neutral/Toxic She is beauty, she is grace, she will scratch you in the face: enter Najaria! This sleek and elegant Temtem evokes the image of a cheetah, but…
- The creatures of the Downbelow! - 26 June 2026
Hi Tamers! As the week ends, we return to share more info about the next game in the Temtem series, Temtem: Pioneers. The Downbelow has been inhabited from way before you accidentally landed here, and so the life of these Temtem is very different to their counterparts up in the Airborne Archipelago. As the newcomer, it’s up to you to adapt to them, but you’ll soon discover this is going to be a piece of cake. Untamed Tems in the Downbelow have different sets of stats, just like the ones from the Archipelago, but down here they also come in a variety of sizes. Will you be looking for the big ones or for the itty-bitty ones? Each Temtem species displays different behaviors, with some being timid and completely harmless, to some that only seek to defend themselves when attacked, to the fierce ones who will attack on sight. One thing is certain: the Tems you find in the wild won’t go quietl…
- Take your Tems for a stroll: Mounts in Temtem: Pioneers! - 19 June 2026
Hello, Tamers! It's our weekly date with the Downbelow, and today we're talking mounts! Since we reached the Stretch Goal for the improved mount system with the help and support from all our Backers, here’s an extra-long update talking about the Mount system, how it was originally planned and how reaching the Stretch Goal positively influenced it. It’s a really interesting update with a couple of desired surprises, so we hope you’ll read it in full! The Downbelow is huge, and although you can absolutely go exploring on foot, why not let your Temtem partners help you along? Mounts are, as the name suggests, Temtem you can ride on to go further, faster, and in better company. Our original idea was to have 12 Temtem mounts, 3 for each type of terrain. Now, thanks to you, we’re doubling that number and creating mounts that are mixed-terrain. The terrain issue is pretty simple: you wouldn’t…
- Let's go for a walk through the Downbelow! - 12 June 2026
Hello, Tamers! Today it’s time to take a closer look at the biomes in Temtem: Pioneers. Let’s go on a little trip! Biomes are the different areas you can find in the Downbelow, each with their distinct themes, vibes and Temtem population. Like we told you in a previous update, the world of the Downbelow has been carefully crafted by hand, and each biome has been planted with intent and careful consideration. Here are some initial concept pieces of a couple of biomes! Recognize this one? You've seen it often! Remember how 🌋 was our official icon for the tease period? Some biomes stand on their own, but other biomes, like the Crystal biome, live inside others. Like in any living world, as you naturally explore the Downbelow you will come across different biomes; they’re so unique that it’ll sometimes feel like you’re stepping into a different world! Each biome has distinctive special eff…

- Explore the Downbelow on your own, or together! - 5 June 2026
Hi Tamers! Today we want to share more with you on the social aspects of Temtem: Pioneers, or, depending on how you feel that day, the lack thereof! Let us preface this by saying that all of these features are in early development, and all their details are subject to change in the future. We’ll be able to share more solid and final info as we progress in the making of the game. To start off with the facts, Temtem: Pioneers can be played in two main ways: solo and in co-op. When you play solo, you create your own little Downbelow world, and that creates a local server. You can enjoy Temtem: Pioneers offline, and your progress is stored on your computer (Steam Cloud will be enabled for Pioneers). It’s you, your Temtem, and the vast Downbelow. Play at your own pace and enjoy checking milestones and progressing in your adventure. But if you want to have up to 5 friends join you, you’re als…
- Today, on Pioneers, let's talk about Fossil Tems! - 25 May 2026
Hello, Tamers! Thanks to our Backers we unlocked all Stretch Goals during the campaign, including the one to unlock Fossil Tems, so let's talk about them for a bit! Fossil Tems will be 3 entirely new Temtem, each with an evolution for a total of 6 new Tems. But they won’t greet you in the overworld like the rest of Tems do, and you won’t need a TemCard to catch these bad boys. Disclaimer: This image is for promotional use. The actual feature will not involve digging. Instead, you must find fossil pieces through the world of the Downbelow, but don’t worry: you’ll have helpers. Firstly, a tracking system that will give you an approximate location for the fossil pieces; secondly, Dr. Sasaya, who is the only one that can turn these fossil pieces into a brand new, alive Temtem. Disclaimer: This image is for promotional use. The actual feature will not involve digging. This entire process wil…
