- Reflection and Future Plans - 30 July 2025
Hi! It's been a month since Rusty Flesh launched, so it's probably time to reflect on it a little bit and update you all on the future of this game. But first, a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have played or shared Rusty Flesh, or been part of this journey in any other way! Even for such an under-the-radar project as this one, it's been amazing having a bunch of people supporting me along the way.Let's talk about sales. To be honest, they haven't been too good. However, I knew this would happen, it was a very niche project, and my first commercial game as well, so being realistic, they have been within my expectations, even slightly better than expected for the first month. I don't think I'll see many more sales in a while, until the game takes part in some discount. So, I'm actually satisfied. I have managed to commit to a long-term project that took me about 2 years in my spare time…
- Rusty Flesh is OUT NOW! - 30 June 2025
Well, I guess the title of this post says it all, right?Rusty Flesh is finally out!I'll probably write a longer post soon, but right now that's it! I'm excited, scared, proud... This is a cocktail of emotions. So, thank you for you support, take a look at the launch trailer and enjoy the game!
- Known Issue: Saving your Game on Steam Deck - 19 June 2025
Hi there!Although playing Rusty Flesh on Steam Deck feels great, there is currently an issue that prevents players from saving their progress and coming back later. I am currently investigating the causes and potential solutions, but meanwhile, here's a workaround. As saving on desktop works fine, you can always stream from your desktop to your Steam Deck. To do it, make sure that both are connected to the same Wi-Fi and you have Remote Play active on your Steam settings. Then, just follow these simple steps (there is a number of ways to do it, but I think this is the most straightforward):On your Steam Deck, click the dropdown on the right side of the "Play" button. On the popup window, select "Stream from: \".You'll see a new "Stream" button now. Just press it and start playing!I know this is annoying and limiting (you can't play everywhere, for instance), but rest assured, I'm investig…
- Rusty Flesh is launching on June 30 2025! - 20 March 2025
That's pretty much it, Rusty Flesh is finally launching on itch.io (roms) and Steam (PC build) on June 30 2025! A physical Game Boy Color edition will probably release later. Take a look at the release date trailer below. :D
- A Quick but Notable Update - 10 March 2025
Rusty Flesh's demo has just been updated with the following changes: Projectiles now render over other sprites. Added controller support to the PC version (Steam) thanks to the GBCBag 2 tool by Chris at EASTPIXEL. In addition, I'm not planning to keep updating the demo until after the full game launches, unless new critical bugs are discovered. I need to focus on finishing the game, and with this, the demo should be polished enough to grant an enjoyable experience. Thank you for your understanding!
- Progress Report and Roadmap - 7 March 2025
Hello! The development of Rusty Flesh is going well lately. Three fully playable areas (plus the initial "Storehouse" area that works as a tutorial) are ready, and the fourth and final one is under development as I write these lines. And even better: these three areas are interconnected, can be explored in any order, and feel good to play. Chambers This is the first area that was made, and the one you can play in the demo after the Storehouse. It's like a sidescrolling Sokoban, where you push crates to complete the puzzles. Engines This area is hot! So, it is really dangerous to explore without the right equipment. Still, everything's possible. Here, you'll find fire, robots and teleporters. Don't get lost! Greenhouse Turn lights on and off, and connect circuits to progress through this area. Light and darkness hide different secrets, so be very aware of your surroundings. So, what's ne…
- Demo Update: Ready for Steam Next Fest! - 7 February 2025
Hi, it's definitely been a while! But no worries, I've been working hard on Rusty Flesh, and I'll have some exciting news very soon. But meanwhile, the demo build has been updated with the following changes: Fixed a bug that made the pause and map screens unavailable. Improved acceleration and deceleration responsiveness. Undead soldiers (green uniform) now revive faster after stunning them. Not much, huh? But the game does feel much better now after these simple improvements, and Rusty Flesh's demo is ready for the February 2025 edition of Steam Next Fest! This means that there will be no better time to try it and wishlist it than February 24 - March 3. See you soon!
- How to play Rusty Flesh on Steam Deck (and notes on how to play on PC) - 22 October 2024
IMPORTANT NOTE: The steps outlined below are not longer relevant, as Steam Decks and controllers are supported now, but this post will not be deleted, just in case somebody finds it useful. Rusty Flesh is made with GB Studio, an engine specifically tailored to create Game Boy games that doesn't support PC builds natively, let alone Steam Deck compatibility. The good news is that you can just download a custom layout, and it feels great! And of course, you can always create your own. It's easier than it sounds. As Rusty Flesh is made for the Game Boy Color, its native controles are just a D-pad, A, B, Start and Select. For the PC version, they are mapped as follows: D-pad (Game Boy): arrow keys (PC) A (Game Boy): Z (PC) B (Game Boy): X (PC) Start (Game Boy): Enter (PC) Select (Game Boy): Shift (PC) When it comes to Steam Deck, this is how you can play the game (and the demo): On your Dec…
- Demo Update: New Splash Screen and more - 8 October 2024
Hello everyone, and happy spooky season! I've been wanting to update Rusty Flesh's demo for a while now, and finally, here it is! This is what has changed: Fixed a bug that prevented players from correctly switching gravity when standing on an object (platforms, boxes...). Created a new splash screen. Fixed some minor narrative inconsistencies. Some minor graphic improvements. Also, the Engines area is almost ready, and I'm working on releasing a new trailer soon! I'll keep you posted. Oh, and remember that to wishlist Rusty Flesh!
- Demo Update: Improvements, Bug Fixes and New Content - 20 July 2024
Howdy! It's been a while, but I'm back with some updates. I actually wanted to update the demo a while ago, but some of the bug fixes I implemented created new, bigger bugs, I wasn't satisfied with how certain puzzles felt, and so on. Anyway, Rusty Flesh demo has been finally updated, and here's a list of the changes: Modified a room where it was impossible to go back without dying. Slightly increased the difficulty of two puzzles that were reported to be way too easy. Added a small section of the vents area (a top-down area that will serve as a shortcut between different places and hide some secrets). Fixed a transition between rooms that sent the player to a wrong place. Fixed a bug where you could die when walking from a moving platform. Hope you enjoy it! I'll keep working on the Engines area, and hopefully I will have something to show soon. Thank you for playing!
- Demo Update: Living Crates and Inconsistencies - 7 June 2024
Happy Friday! Rusty Flesh demo has been updated, fixing some issues that went under the radar. These are the changes: Fixed a crate that could float in the air when in certain positions. Fixed a bug that allowed to push some crates from a distance. Tweaked some color palettes for improved consistency. Fixed a narrative inconsistency. Have a nice weekend!
- Rusty Flesh demo is available on Steam now! - 28 May 2024
Hello everyone! First and foremost, thank you to all the people who have wishlisted Rusty Flesh and/or played the demo on itch.io. I hope you like it! Just wanted to let you know that the demo is now available on Steam, so you can add it to your library and play it here as well. I am already designing the main mechanics for a new area, as well as fixing some bugs and art inconsistencies that went under the radar. I'll be in touch soon. Thank you again!
