  • Small level 3 fix - 30 September 2024

Just a tiny fix today to correct a small area in level 3 that allowed the player to fall out of the world. Oops! Have fun, Mark

  • Fixing the broken printer - 11 September 2024

Two small changes today. I noticed while watching this excellent speedrun that the printer does not despawn when you fail to "fix" it on time. By the way, if you don't get this reference, you really should watch Office Space, it is one of many references to the film that this game does and will make. Anyway, it now removes itself properly if you fail to take care of the problem yourself. Also, now that killing the mini boss is a timed job, I felt that the assault rifle could use a boost. I added 10 bullets to the magazine, for a total of 50. Have fun!

  • Control Tips - 10 September 2024

This will be perhaps the last update to the demo before the October Next Fest. We will see! I've added controls and job tips that appear when you take a job, right above your health bar. These are context-sensitive based on the job and if you are on a gamepad. Please let me know if you encounter any problems, as I am hoping for the smoothest possible Next Fest! Thanks and have fun, Mark

  • Timed Mini Boss, other fixes - 3 September 2024

This build does some behind the scenes streamlining of the job process (cleaned up some code). This was in service to trying to fix some strange issues I've encountered with the "Kill the Mini Boss" job. The two real public facing changes of this are: This job is now timed. You have 60 seconds, which may pose a real challenge. The objective arrow will now point to the mini boss, so at least they are easier to find I also put up some new art in the second level, since after moving the manager kiosk there was a bit too much empty space on that wall. One more bonus... the revolver now allows you to hold up to 12 bullets. Let's just pretend you have a speed loader. The real reason for this change... well you won't see that until level 8 of the full version.

  • Minor tweaks / Call to Action - 30 August 2024

Today's demo update is small, but does have significant gameplay ramifications. The manager kiosk on level 1 has moved slightly away from the zombie spawn, and the kiosk on level 2 has moved to a much more central location. This has an effect on how some jobs play out, particularly coworker rescues and pizza deliveries. I've also colored the tutorial and Wishlist buttons on the main menu red. Hopefully people notice them more, and... click them. Thanks!

  • Bug fixes - 21 August 2024

I have taken another stab at putting the "smash the printer, get stuck in the floor" bug to bed. I basically made the player not collide with the printer at all, and that seems to have stopped it. You can, of course, still kill the printer, with any weapon you like. I have also greatly enhanced the player's chances of successfully rescuing a coworker. In the past, this has been a little too hit or miss for my tastes. Having now seen several people post YouTube videos of their gameplay experiences (thank you!) I want to mention that one of my goals / philosophies for this game is to have it be very retro in its approach to the player; in other words, it will not hold your hand a lot. DOOM is one of my favorite games and a huge inspiration for this game. That's one reason why none of the weapons need to be reloaded. I try to prioritize development time on features that will add the most t…

  • New Spawn System! - 12 August 2024

Today's patch covers two aspects of the demo: a new spawn system and a fix for the "Repair" the Printer job. The former system for spawning special zombies was not conducive to more special types being added. It also didn't highlight new zombie types when they show up (special zombies have a minimum level number attached before they will spawn). I have overhauled the entire system so that you will see more special zombies, which does have the side effect of making the game more difficult. Please let me know if you think the game is too hard / too easy / just right. Thanks! I also have (hopefully) fixed an issue that could arise when smashing the hell out of the printer. I found it was possible to fall into the floor, which is... less than ideal. I think I have it resolved now. If you fall through the floor, let me know! :/

  • .036 Patch notes - 7 August 2024

Third day in a row! Just a couple of fixes this time: You can no longer enter the spawn areas in level 2 Mini Boss can no longer be stunned

  • .035 Patch notes - 6 August 2024

Just a short update today: Fixed an audio bug with sound fx volume Zombies now display a hit reaction against most types of attacks. They will briefly stop moving while they react, and there will be blood spatter. Fire and Knockback (baseball bat, kick) do not utilize these effects. Thanks, and have fun!

  • Demo .34 patch notes - 5 August 2024

Based on player feedback, I have made the decision to move the Build Barricade action to its own... action... as opposed to being part of Interact. It was too confusing, particularly when trying to rescue coworkers. Starting with this release, the Y button on a Xbox controller, or the Q button on your keyboard, will build a barricade. Other Interactions remain unchanged. Level 1 also features a new melee weapon, the cutting blade from a guillotine paper cutter! It swings very swiftly, and if you can time it properly it will kill a zombie in one swipe. Have fun, and thanks for playing! -Mark
