- Working on serialization - 21 September 2026
If you don't know, "serialization" is fancy speak for saving and loading. It's not the act of making Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition into a serial novel. Although that would be pretty cool.I mean, we've already got the content. Maybe we should?!But that would be distracting. But isn't distraction the point?!Maybe not.Anyway, I'm not just posting because I'm lonely......it's because I'm working on ːvanilla2ː S E R I A L I Z A T I O N. ːsunglassesDogeːThis serialization system is pretty incredible. It serializes. That's "saving" in gamer-speak.It deserializes. That's "loading" in gamer-speak.It can asynchronously deserialize multiple sections of a single file at once. That's... "loading faster" in gamer-speak.It's not Json. That's "smaller load files" in gamer-speak.Although endianness might still be an issue (which is "why won't my save file transfer to my Power PC" in ga…
- My last post was on Friday 13, that must be the problem - 1 September 2026
You see, March 13th was a Friday.I've made barely any progress on Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition since then!THAT MUST BE THE REASON.Well, it's now 172 days since then (I asked the internet, math is hard).Which means it's high-time something changes. And the first thing that has to change......is me.But probably after I take a shower.I've identified these 20 things that I need to change, and I hope you'll hold me accountable:1. Do better. Vague enough that it can mean whatever I want on whatever day, so I can either be a constant success or a constant failure, whichever means more to me at the time.2. Post more often. Also vague. Any post is more often than not posting, so anytime I post, I win.3. Update the game. Well, this is also vague. I mean, if I open Unity and then close it again, Unity always marks random files as changed anyway, so that counts too, right?!4. Li…
- Reverted to previous build because I broke it - 13 March 2026
I'm sorry. But I know you'll forgive me.Because I fixed it. By undoing my fixes. And I'll fix it again.Sincerely, Josh Powlison Creator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edtion
- What sound does a marketing clock make? - 9 March 2026
Thought you'd like a dad joke.Cuz I'm dad....it's in the header. If you didn't see it yet, that means you missed it.But that doesn't mean you missed me.Maybe emotionally, but not literally.Anyway, here's the link to the official TikTok. - Release 0.2.7: New Save System, Day/Night Cycle Now Toggleable!!!! - 22 February 2026
The game hasn't had much sales movement in the past month. I know you're probably shocked, since you've dreamed about playing it nonstop (even though, from what I can tell, you haven't actually been playing it, meaning that the only logical conclusion is that you've been dreaming about it), but the reality is......this is a blessing in disguise!!! Though I'll admit, it's a really good disguise!!It gives me the freedom to completely break the save system and replace it with something better! Everyone's data is lost. But the system is better. Aren't you proud of Dad?!Notey-notes:Fix build errors: This happened right before I built. I'm not sure if this should even be here, but it was in my Git commits! ːsunglassesDogeːSet day/night cycle as optional: I should've done this all along. But I didn't. But I learned! It now defaults to being more familiar, more classic; but Day/Night Cycle is s…
- Release 0.2.6: "I'm not dead yet!" - 6 February 2026
Howdy kids,Dad's back. That's me. ːzoteːLet's do this.So what's up?Well, we've got...Prettier Menu: I've had enough time to decide I like it. The menu is now more unified, just like how the walls in my apartment all have cracks in the same corners! (I'm speaking metaphorically, of course. Probably)Code Cleanup: blah blah blah code programming stuff you don't care about probably. Okay fine, I'll tell you!New input system: This adds amazing new features, like you can use more Gamepad buttons to press the button, you can use the arrow keys or WASD to tilt the button... it's a whole new experience!Package Updates and Removals: packages are like zits: you don't want to break em cuz they'll spew goo everywhere, but you also don't want them to be too obvious. Fortunately, I was able to tidy up one and break the other in my armpit where nobody will know (I'm speaking metaphorically, of course, p…
- Release 0.2.5: Partial UI Update - 20 December 2025
I did a partial UI update.I figured, rather than update the entire UI and then go "that was dumb", it made more sense to find the dumb early. "Fail fast" as they always say (though I never bothered listening to them beyond that, I've got no time for failures). So you can see the UI updates on some of the menu screens, but not all of the menu screens. It just lets us see if we like it! ːperretːI suspect I may be partial to my own work, but I LOVE IT!!!! So I can only trust that you do too. Because you're my kids.Oh yeah, here's the release notes (all the professionals have these, and I'm a professional ːvanilla2ː):FU (Feature Update): Added punch animation to button, and did a partial design update ːVSnakeːBF (Bug Fix): Escape no longer opens the console ːReeneOKːIt feels so good to be pushing out regularly updates. It's like I'm giving birth every week!Anyway, that's enough of your dad t…
- Release 0.2.4: Euphoria in the Cloud - 13 December 2025
I've been practicing confidence. So I pushed this update without testing.Surely my personal experiment will pay off. Here's what happened that's good:Steam Cloud Saves Work Again: I think they worked before. I don't think I actually ever tested them. But when I ported the game to Unity, the paths changed, and I didn't feel like updating it until now. I just needed the creative inspiration, y'know?EULA Added: Did you ever notice that "Euphoria" and "EULA" both start with "Eu", except in "EULA" the "u" is capitalized?(Bug Fix) Can no longer click the button when the menu is open: That was confusing. I mean, before it was working. Now it's working. And it's not! Confusing.Euphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition
- 12 Things I Learned Porting My Game to Unity - 13 December 2025
I thought this would help others. It would've helped myself.12 Things I Learned Porting My Game to UnityWhen you port your game to Unity, you have to know where you're porting it from. It took me at least 4 hours to realize I'd been trying to port my game from GameMaker, but I'd originally written it in Electron/JS. Duh!If you think you're doing it wrong, you're doing it right. Porting is messy. Imagine replacing your house with an entirely different house! It's like that, only it has to be exactly the same! Which means that sometimes you think "wait, was that door always there?" Don't trust your gut, trust your eyes!! That's how you know you've struck gold.Unity makes everything better. If there's one thing I've learned from this process, it's that the decision to port was the right one. Therefore, it must always be. I'm almost wondering if I should port the game again!Don't sweat the…
- Release 0.2.3: Click Fixed - 13 December 2025
You know the experience when you click the button?Well you used to. But then, when porting the game to Unity, I broke that. But you could still press the spacebar or a gamepad button to press the Button.Well......guess what?!I FIXED IT.Not sure how to show it in a video, so I'll just show it in the update! ːpfffːFix clicking the button: Say it with me: euphoria! ːsteamthisːButton rotates towards mouse, and also with left analog stick: Immersive. ːp2wheatleyːFix order of build steps so we don't delete the previous version files: Internal stuff, you kids wouldn't understand. ːhotsausageːUpdate Unity version: I thought I already did this. Guess there was another one to do. Oops! ːperretːEuphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered EditionPS: I'm still figuring out my design style. The store page is pretty consistent, but should updates be the same?! H…
- Release 0.2.2: Realtime Day/Night Cycle - 5 December 2025
Euphoria doesn't sleep. But it does experience the circadian rhythm, just like you and me.Which is why I've...!Added realtime day/night cycle. The sun rises and sets to light the world of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition, and then the moon rises and set too- just like real life!!!!Added a dev console plugin. Don't use it to cheat!!!! Although it doesn't do anything yet to even let you cheat. So I guess it's fine.Remove extra debug files from builds. Hopefully I didn't accidentally leak anything important!Added commentary for click 754. Get clicking already!Oh yeah, and you might notice weird lighting bug artifacts, like in the screenshot above. That's not like real life, but I'll try to fix it in an upcoming update. Hopefully it doesn't break immersion too hard for you. Also, it was my Birthday recently! I turned 31. Please press the button 31 times in commemoration.Eupho…
- Release 0.2.1: Let There Be Light - 15 November 2025
And there was light. And Josh saw that the light was... good enough. It'll get even better.OH YEAH AND THE BUTTON IS IN 3D NOWThis is only possible because of Unity.And...............you guessed it.Euphoria.Euphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered EditionPS: You see that coloring? That's Unity's default skybox you're seeing. That's only possible because of Unity too. ːperretː
- Release 0.2.0: Dad's Coming Home - 14 November 2025
This is no normal update. This is no cause for mediocre celebration.Do you know why?Well you will once you read the next line!So read it!!!! (not this one, I meant the next-next one, or the next one in this line's case- just keep reading!!!!!)Added developer commentary 749-753.That's right!!!!I've added MORE developer commentary. This marks the beginning of a new age.AN AGE.OF DAD.Oh yeah, and guess what else your good ol' Dad also did: ːsunglassesDogeːLoad previous commentary, template, and color settings on startup. You used to have this before we ported to Unity. Now we're getting closer to feature parity! It's like I'm making up for all the time I missed playing with you last year! ːMillerːAnimate button in on startup. You know, to pump you up! Kids still like animations these days, right?! ːshelterfrogːPerformance improvements. To myself, and the game! (Do fish oil pills count as per…
- Release 0.1.14: It's About Time - 13 November 2025
Update save file location. This means you lose all your progress, but you already did when we switched to Unity. But I forgot to mention that before... forget I said anything. ːperretːFixed bug where shortest and longest unpressed and pressed durations were stored in the same value. It worked half the time! (wait, that's like 2 puns in 1, I'm amazing.) ːhotdogggːTime calculations between button presses now processed properly. Meaning you can get those sweet, SWEEEEET~ achievements instead of crying into your chicken nuggets (like I do alone at home most Friday nights). This may sound like the same thing as the previous bullet, but I screwed up in more than one way, so it gets two bullets! ːsunglassesDogeː That's just how it is though; sometimes, you gotta kill 1 bird with 2 stones, because you missed the bird the first time.Code cleanup. But only I know. It fills me with joy. ːauyayːEup…
- Release 0.1.13: Removed Deceit - 12 November 2025
Fix: Move Unlock Popup below the Button so it doesn't block the Button. It was quite shamelessly rude, and my apologies run even deeper than my bountiful sorrow, if that were even possible.Fix: Commentary Volume wasn't showing the right value in the menu. It was SAVING, but it was always SHOWING it was something other than it was. Deceitful.Euphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition
- Release 0.1.12: The Quickening - 12 November 2025
Performance improvements. Probably. My performance is improved, at least. YMMV. Still a win.Streamlined build process. It's smooth as my face... after I've shaved. Before, it was more like my face before I've shaved- a disappointment to everyone. ːsadistembarrasedː Now, I can get you even more updates, even more faster!Disable Unity splash screen. I already told you I ported the game to Unity, the game doesn't need to tell you that too.Added correct game icon. So you know you're not playing Unity. I mean, I moved the game to Unity, so while it's not incorrect, it is wrong. And that, as they say, is that.Euphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition
- V0.1.11: Back to our roots - 12 November 2025
PA-PA-PA-PATCH NOTES!!!!ːawyeaː patch noooootes~We skipped a number, because, like Windows 10, we did better than we expected. That gave us the right to over-increment.Also, hitting 1.11 on 11.11 just seems close enough to right to actually be right. It's a good way to honor Skyrim's 14th Birthday. Because we, like the one who presses and releases the BUTTON (which is us), are finally awake.ːVSnakeːDevvy Patch Notes:"Save and Quit" option is no longer hidden under "Data" options tab.Button is smaller. Button text is smaller. Feels more like home.Euphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition
- V0.1.9: You're not debug - 12 November 2025
I'm so sorry.I just realized save paths were set in the live game to the debug path instead of the not-debug-path.This must have been very confusing for you.But it's fixed.:)See how much faster I dev in Unity?Devvy Patch Notes:Player save path is no longer the Debug save path.Euphorically yours,Josh PowlisonCreator of \Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition\
- 🥳🎉🪅 Ported EVERYTHING to Unity - 12 November 2025
I learned the game didn't work. That was terrifying. So I did the only reasonable thing:Changed game engines. You see, when drastic things happen, I do drastic things. Because I'm a man of action. And to ensure that the drastic things don't get even more drastic, drastic-er measures are often required. So now... I present to you......Josh Powlison's BUTTON: Mildly Remastered Edition... in UNITY!!!!Pros of Unity:Professional game engine, which makes it better. ːVSnakeːSmaller game size It's now only 195 MB! a whopping 190.74 MB reduction!!! So like, 50%!!!! ːperretːBetter graphics rendering. Unverified, but probably. ːReeneOKːWe can now port to the Switch. Which will probably happen. I mean, why not. Probably. ːbrownchickenːIt works. Unity is known for only working. So therefore, the game will never break ever again. ːauyayːFAQAwesomelicious! I'm smackin' my lips over here. Mmm-dog-wow-dog. A…
