  • Devlog - Finding the Fun - 5 September 2026

Hello everyone,I feel like I could start every devlog with the same phrase: "It's been a busy few months!" šŸ˜„ Together with Monster Theater, we conducted an internal playtest to get a feel for the current state of the game. I always find these extremely helpful, like a check-in on how the game is doing overall. It's easy to lose track of that when you're in the midst of something.Overall, the feedback was very positive, but there are some key areas that still need work. Mainly the stealth mechanics. The demo only shows a glimpse of these mechanics, but the full version of the game will feature more situations and more ways for the player to find a solution. That also led to a revelation I had about these mechanics in Solace Creek in general: I think of every encounter in the game as just another kind of puzzle, but one that, unlike the others, is more open and allows for some experimenta…

I had the pleasure of being a guest on El Joe's La Bóveda podcast to talk about Solace Creek, the history of survival horror, stalker horror mechanics, and the psychological dread that drives the game.Make sure to check out his podcast!

  • Devlog - A Journal for Her - 8 July 2026

Hey lovely people,This June was a lot about something that grew directly out of the discussion from the last post, where we discussed about how the protagonist is interacting with the world. Around the same time, I'd also been sitting on an idea for collectible photos scattered through the game. During internal discussions those two things merged into one: a journal. It works on a few levels at once. First, it's her personal notebook, where she scribbles down what's going through her mind: small observations, fears, fragments of thought about whatever's happening around her. I wanted it to work as a small window into her thoughts for people who want to read it. At the same time, the journal doubles as a kind of synopsis. If you take a break or haven't played in a while, you can glance through it and remember where the story left off.And then there's a part I'm genuinely excited about: sc…

  • Devlog - Something to think about - 19 May 2026

Hey everyone!Things have been moving along steadily since the last update. I've been working through a good chunk of new content and the game keeps feeling more and more like what I always imagined it to be. Nothing big to announce just yet, but it's all coming together.Something to think about: A point that keeps coming up in comments from people who played the demo is that the main character could feel a bit more present.I get it, and it's something I was thinking a lot about in the past month since there's a really fine line between keeping her a bit "dissociated", inward or even catatonic but still giving the player enough to actually connect with her.Would love to hear your thoughts on this! More inner monologue lines? More expressive animations? Or maybe something completely different? If you know any games that handled something similar really well, I'd love to hear those too. An…

  • Devlog - We're back! (with a new friend) - 27 April 2026

Hey everyone! The past few months have been crazy busy, but I'm really happy to finally sit down and share what's been going on with Solace Creek. The big news first: Solace Creek is being published by Monster Theater! I'm so happy they saw something in my vision and it's genuinely been amazing to work with everyone on the team. Here's an announcement trailer showcasing some never before seen content:Earlier this year we ran a closed playtest, and it was really valuable. A lot of the content I've been working on for the past months has never really been tested by players and I was kinda anxious to get feedback on how it all was received. And I think people really connected with it. The demo only gives you a glimpse of the feel of the game and I think the playtest was a much deeper insight into other aspects of the game, which is why it was a bit nerve-wracking to finally show it to other…

  • Demo 0.6 - Big Visual Upgrade & Spanish LATAM - 6 June 2025

Hello everyone! It's been a while since the last update because I've been busy behind the scenes, working on something big. I've migrated the game to Unity 6 along with some other technical upgrades, and this has dramatically improved how Solace Creek looks. The game now features real-time lighting and shadows! Especially the shadows have significantly enhanced the atmosphere: your flashlight now actually casts realistic shadows as you explore, and characters are dynamically lit by their environment:While PS1-era games probably wouldn’t have featured this level of graphical fidelity, I felt it would really enhance the atmosphere of Solace Creek. My goal is to strike a good balance between atmospheric elements like these and the game's retro aesthetic. You can experience it yourself in the new demo version! The demo still features the same elements of the previous version, so it doesn't go…

  • Devlog - Creative Slumps and Creeping Shadows - 10 April 2025

Hello everyone, Another month has passed, and I’ve been keeping busy. March was a bit tough, though—I hit a slump while working on a new area, and it reminded me just how difficult making games can be šŸ˜… Sometimes you just know that something’s off—maybe a bit of story, a piece of gameplay, or part of a level—but you can’t quite tell what it is. This time, the problem was the monster. The creepy shadowy figure you might remember from the demo. I’ve had a lot of ideas for this entity since the beginning, and I’ve been working on a new encounter with it. But something didn’t feel right. I couldn’t figure out why, and that kind of stalled everything. Since so many parts of the game depend on each other, progress came to a halt. https://i.imgur.com/m0YSH63.png So what do you do in a situation like that? Honestly, I don’t think there’s one right answer. This time, I decided to take a few wee…

  • Devlog - Caaaaats! - 5 March 2025

Hey everyone! In the last few weeks, I’ve made a lot of progress on Solace Creek. I’d estimate that around half of the game is finished. Since the first level, I’ve added two more large areas and also gone back to refine the first level with more assets and details. Some of those updates are already available in the current demo version. Finding the Heart of Solace Creek I’m also getting closer to the atmosphere I want the game to have. When I start a game project, I have ideas, references, a vision—but a lot of what makes a game work only comes together while building it for me. The atmosphere, the pacing, the way different elements interact—these things reveal themselves in the process. Solace Creek has always been a horror game, but the more I work on it, the more I realize that mystery plays an equally big role. And sometimes, even a moment of levity can make the eerie parts hit har…
