  • Skin Deep Update03 - 6 October 2025

Hi all, we have a bug-fix and stability update just for you. Enjoy ✨ Fixed: key failsafe system Keys in the world are physics objects. On rare occasions and very specific circumstances, the key can get pushed or blasted into inaccessible locations, so we added a failsafe system to handle this. Our previous failsafe system for this was the player would ask a cat cage, and this would draw a big arrow would point to the stuck key location. However, if the location was truly inaccessible, the arrow would just point to an inaccessible location... which ultimately wasn't too helpful. This update has a new failsafe system: If the key is in an inaccessible location... And the player asks a cat cage where the key is... We now drop the inaccessible key into a Lost and Found machine. Fixed: pirate patrol teleport The pirates move along invisible "path nodes" on the ground. This bug involved some b…

  • The best stealth game of the year just released its source code - 29 June 2025

Blendo Games has publicly released the source code of its latest game, Skin Deep, encouraging other developers to build more stealth games in its footsteps—or at least to take a look at the sick game engine it built. I, for one, am shocked by a specific thing about it: It runs on a core of idTech4, which you may recognize as the engine behind Doom 3... Read more.

The arcade machines will now retain high score information between level loads. Shadow optimization. We added a shadow optimization that improves performance (thank you to dhewm3 for this!). Gamepad right stick will now scroll windows. When reading emails or other blocks of text, the gamepad right stick will now scroll the window up and down. Improved gamepad traversal on lists. The gamepad cursor now traverses lists (such as the list of savegames) better. Previously, cursor friction was being applied when the cursor was above an empty list entry. This is no longer the case. Increased maximum gamepad cursor speed. The gamepad maximum cursor speed is now higher. This is accessed via Options > Gamepad > Menu Speed BugfixesGameplayFixed bug when thro…

  • Skin Deep Hotfix03 - 23 May 2025

Hi all, we're releasing this hotfix to address a couple crashes we've noticed. Swordfish crash (spoiler-text'd in case you don't want to know how the Swordfish works) When the Swordfish robot is in its death throes, it will automatically aim toward "juicy" entities (i.e. a Pirate) and fly toward them. There was a crash where if the target entity no longer had a physics component, the game would crash. This is now fixed. Healthstation crash The Healthstation has an announcer that plays a little sound when it detects an entity nearby that is below maximum health. Similar to the Swordfish crash above, when the target entity no longer had a physics component, the game would crash. This is now fixed.

  • Skin Deep Hotfix02 - 6 May 2025

Hi all! Thank you all for your support, and thank you for playing Skin Deep. Here are further fixes in this Hotfix02 update: Crash: Wiregrenade The wiregrenade weapon had a bug in its save-load system. The wiregrenade had a typo in its save-load logic, that was accidentally saving-loading an incorrect piece of information. This is now fixed! Render issue when alt+tabbing while using a fullscreen GUI There was a bug where the render system would behave strangely when alt+tabbing out of the game while using a fullscreen GUI (such as the email screen or level selector). This was due to some logic that made the game render the 3D environment and 3D elements in the GUI at the same time, which made the graphics renderer unhappy. This is now fixed! Softlock: Using memorypalace in outer space There was a bug where opening the memorypalace in outer space put the player into a strange state. This…

  • Skin Deep Hotfix01 - 2 May 2025

We're so happy with the reception Skin Deep is receiving. You all are the best. We have a future quality of life and bug fix update planned, but in the meantime, we have a small hotfix for some critical issues we've noticed. Crash: Duping an autopistol When the player was using the Duper on an autopistol, this was sometimes causing a crash. When a weapon hits the ground, it "misfires" by firing a round. This consumes ammo from the weapon. Due to a combination of how the Duper works and how the Autopistol's ammo magazine was empty, the duplicated Autopistol spawned, hit the ground, misfired, and crashed. This is now fixed! Crash: throwing a destroyed object This crash involved being in "throw mode" for an object, and then that object somehow getting destroyed. With the throw button held down, and the object no longer existing in this earthly realm, the game got confused and crashed. This…

  • Skin Deep is OUT NOW and there are cats to rescue! - 30 April 2025

We’re so thrilled to be able to say this - Skin Deep is out now on Steam. Play as Nina Pasadena and learn to defeat pirates with toilets, flammable deodorant, and laundry detergent. Suffer through one or two existential crises. Rescue your friends, who are talking cats. It’s also another game fully developed in the id 4 Engine, and continues to push the boundaries of what we can achie…

  • Skin Deep is a stealth shooter that simulates sneezing and the dangers of bare feet - 17 October 2018

Blendo Games, the indie studio nom de guerre of Brendon Chung that's given us games including Atom Zombie Smasher, Thirty Flights of Loving , Quadrilateral Cowboy , and Flotilla 2 , is working on a new project called Skin Deep. It's an "immersive first person shooter," but perhaps not in the way you might expect: Highlights, as seen in the announcement trailer, including sneezing at inopportune times and picking broken glass out of your feet.  The underlying fiction, according to the listing on Steam , is that you are "a walking talking insurance policy." When corporations want to their in-transit cargo safe, they freeze you and ship you along with it. If pirates board the ship, the silent alarm is triggered, you're automatically defrosted, and you go to work.    "Stalk through a vast non-linear starship and sneak, subvert, and sabotage to survive in this s…

  • Here's a first look at Thirty Flights of Loving dev's sci-fi sandbox shooter Skin Deep - 17 October 2018

Blendo Games, the developer behind such celebrated (and delightfully oddball) offerings as Thirty Flights of Loving and Quadrilateral Cowboy, has unveiled its latest project - "immersive" first-person sci-fi shooter Skin Deep. "Stalk through a vast non-linear starship and sneak, subvert, and sabotage to survive in this stellar sandbox," explains Blendo Games on Skin Deep's newly materialised Steam page , "You're outnumbered, outgunned, and have no shoes." "When insurance corporations want to keep valuables safe, they freeze you and stow you onto their cargo starships," it continues, "And when space pirates board the starship and trip the silent alarm, you unthaw, take a deep breath, and handle the situation. Good luck, operative." Read more…
