  • Enter the Mistlands... - 6 June 2026

Hey everyone! It has been a while since the last update, and that is because we've been working pretty hard on transforming the previously limited desert exploration demo into one where you can play full-fledged games on procedurally generated maps! In this playtest, you will lead the Azca as they come out of the eternal mists in which they always dwelled and start establishing their first nation. You can start unraveling the secrets of the Mistlands, explore forgotten ruins or simply just build a nice peaceful trade empire. But beware: your time is limited... We've fleshed out large parts of the lore and systems of the game, specifically everything that had to do with the Legacy system: basically, the game will now remember what you manage to accomplish in your games, and these will have an effect on the world for the next games. By successfully completing ambitions and exploring the ma…

  • Play Almanach with the lead dev! - 18 February 2026

For the Games from Quebec Celebration showcase, come join Almanach's lead developer in a live interactive broadcast where we will be showcasing the demo, explaining mechanics and design choices, and answering questions from the chat! The live should last approximately an hour, and will be on rediffusion until Sunday at noon, Montreal time.

  • Almanach joins the 2026 Quebec Games Celebration! - 12 February 2026

Almanach will this year again join the festivities and be available to play for the duration of Quebec Games Celebration next week, starting on Thursday Feb. 16th at 1PM EST! If you haven't had the chance to try out the demo from earlier this year, this will be your chance! Bonus: our lead dev will do a live stream on the 19th to show a more recent version of the game and what we are cooking up! Head over to our discord for more details and to participate in the conversation.

  • August 2025 dev update - 16 August 2025

Hey everyone! It has been a while since our last update here, and there is a lot of stuff to unpack since march. We originally wanted these updates to be monthly, but considering the (very) small size of the team, we often have had to prioritize actually working on the game rather than making updates (these things take time!). Almanach is still in active development, and we will do larger updates here every couple months. But if you want more, join our community on discord, where we publish smaller updates almost weekly, or have a look at almanach.blog, where we periodically do deep dives on specific game design topics. In this update: city UI revamp, tactical AI update, map generation overhaul, and much more! Lets dive right in with first a look at our newest key art (which should take over the steam page shortly!):City UIOne of the main problems we found during our playtests revolved ar…

  • March 2025 monthly update! - 4 March 2025

Hello everyone! We're back with another almost monthly update for Almanach! We skipped last month's update to focus more on the playtest that was available from Feb. 17-24 and give us more time to focus on making a better experience for you guys. So first of all, thanks to everyone who played the game and left us some feedback! We are still sorting through everything, and will consider all your comments in the continuing development. The last 2 months have been all about refinement and polishing the demo experience, and pushing the game's visuals and usability further. Let’s dive in! Playtest Polish & Debugging A lot of work in the last 2 months has gone into making sure the playtest was as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We've improved visibility around cities, ensuring key information is clearer at a glance. We've also added tutorials for trade and influence, and linked those system…

  • Almanach will be playable for Games from Quebec! - 16 February 2025

Hey everyone! Some of you may have noticed that we did not publish any details about our activities this month as we did in the previous ones. That is because we were hard at work trying to make a public-ready version to be playable for free by everyone for the Games from Quebec event! Our demo of Almanach will thus be available from February 17th, 11:00AM EST, to February 23rd, 11:00PM EST. In that demo, you get to play as the Azca people, as they escape their ancestral caves to find a new home in a hostile desert. You will be able to play the first 75 turns of content, complete with narrative events, strategic city development, map exploration and combat. Do remember that this is a pre-alpha demo however! There are still many art placeholders in there, and many game mechanics are still very susceptible to change. This also means you might encounter some bugs, although most of them sho…

  • December 2024 Monthly Update - 9 January 2025

Hello everyone! We are back with the 2nd monthly update for December (sorry for the small delay, it's been a busy holiday season!). This month, we have mostly worked on finalizing cities, be it on the mechanics or visuals side. With the adding of multitile cities and the internal market, the economy part of the systems for Almanach is almost complete! We will then need to use those systems to make content for the actual game. Multitile cities It is now possible, for an influence fee, to expand the borders of your cities and add adjacent tiles as districts. This enlarges the buildable area for your city, and also expands the territory you control around them. This change makes is so that it is now possible to buy megalopolises which span over as many hexes as you want... as long as you have the influence to support it. Internal market Cities now also have access to the internal market, a…

  • November 2024 Monthly Update - 3 December 2024

Hello everyone! This is the first of a series of monthly updates for Almanach, where we will keep you updated on our progress on the game. As this is the first time, the format might still need some work as we adjust to a new medium, so bear with us, and do let us know what you think! Too long, too dry, would like to hear about something specific? Let us know in the comments! As a bit of background, we had a pretty intense October, where we basically made sure our demo was as polished as possible in the ramp-up leading to us holding a booth (thanks Loto-Quebec for the opportunity, by the way!) at the Montreal International Games Summit (MIGS), and showing the game off to many potential partners in the games industry. After a week of follow-ups in early november, we went back to the development of game systems and visuals. So here goes for the November changelog: -Multi-tile cities: It w…
