Single player mode now has a progression system! In the video below, I just scored a C or better on all paintings in Post-Impressionism and earned the Plausible badge for the collection. It then shows you which paintings you need to improve to get the next badge. There are four(?) different levels of badges you can earn per collection. There's a catalog (all paintings) badge too.

Wacom tablet support for not only one, but two tablets! I'll need playtesters with different devices to test as well. If you have one, sign up for the mailing list to be notified of when it opens! Should be soon! https://playfulsystems.com/sloppy-forgeries/list/
- Modifiers! ✨ — Drawn and Quartered - 10 July 2026
Another modifier highlight! Drawn and Quartered. It shows you each quarter of the masterpiece for a quarter of the time, starting in the top left. There's a countdown located in the next quadrant so you can see where it's moving next. It can actually be helpful since it focuses your attention... if you time things right :D Have other modifier ideas? - Modifiers! ✨ — Tiny Brush - 29 June 2026
I've been adding optional modifiers to Sloppy Forgeries multiplayer mode to mix things up. I'm going to highlight one here every once and a while. - Collections and 10 New Paintings! - 3 March 2026
For the past few weeks, I've been focused on creating content for the game. One of the biggest changes has been reworking the masterpiece selection screen to incorporate collections. It was a significant redesign. Players now select a collection before selecting a painting. Some other updates:A modifier system has been implemented. Now, the game allows different modifiers to be added for local multiplayer games (and online multiplayer in the future). Now to make modifiers!I've added a fair amount of polish/effects (e.g., sound and visual fx for accuracy bar, screen shake on grades, new highlight shaders for selection screen, new play button and shader, subtle pop animation on brushes...)Post-round painting statistics have been designed, yet to be implemented. New Paintings!10 new ones! Many were determined by filling out collections. I made a lot of progress filling out Neoclassical, Fa…
- Refactoring, New Paintings, and Replays - 22 December 2025
Over the past few weeks, I have been working on several things. Unfortunately, many of them are invisible:I refactored the entire codebase in preparation for creating online multiplayer.I set up a server solution for uploading forgeries. This was done to facilitate high score boards that include visuals and replays of the best paintings.I also reorganized how paintings are displayed in-game. Paintings will be organized into small collections (e.g., Minimalism, Post-Impressionism). Progression in single-player mode will be tied to them. This involved reenvisioning the painting select screen, which I've redesigned, but have yet to implement.Other more visual updates: New Paintings! The collection reorg has helped focus what paintings to add. I've found woodblock prints work really well, so there are a few of them here:The Cow, Theo van Doesburg (Minimalism)Street, Dresden, Ernst Ludwig Kir…
- New Paintings and Painting History - 12 September 2025
There have been quite a few updates in the past few weeks. First up, several small QOL things like: better shadows everywhere, a blank canvas texture, additional painting descriptions, and scroll wheel functionality on the painting selection screen. Also... New Paintings! The Kiss, Gustav KlimtThe Death of Marat, Jacques-Louis DavidThe Swan, No. 17, Hilma af KlintSuprematist Composition: Airplane Flying, Kazimir MalevichAnd finally... Painting History!I've been saving PNGs of painting for a while now, but finally added UI so folks can view them in-game. It lists the date and score. They kinda feel like trading cards. More improvements to come!
- New Painting Selection Screen - 20 August 2025
This is my first Steam release, which means I'm learning things as I go, like the importance of updates! Thanks for bearing with me here. 😬I've been working on the game all summer, so wrapping all that up in one post or knowing where to start is completely overwhelming! Instead, I thought I'd highlight just one change... the new painting selection screen. Designing and implementing it took a while and I'm very happy with how it turned out. This includes:A new list-based design that supports more paintings and easy updatesPainting details panel shows bigger painting, title, artist, dates, and descriptionPersonal high and last scores per paintingThe highest grade received on each painting (I implemented a grading system)We'll see if I keep these feature-focused, event-focused or they become more dev-loggy... regardless, more coming!
