Today marks a big day for Captain Blood. Its story started in early 2000s when the game started development. In early 2010s it was cancelled. Now the game is finally available for gamers. Captain Blood is the game of its era with all its charm and flaws. If you are a fan of pirates, hack’n’slash and retro vibes - we believe that’s the game for you. What’s more important, we hope it will make you smile at least a few times and give positive moments. If you're still not certain about the game, we got you covered — the demo has been updated to match the release build, so you can give it a proper try before boarding full-time. For those who want to play it on Steam Deck - do it. The game fully supports it. As CGM’s resident ninja , you’d think I’d be the last person to review Captain Blood . Suppose you have any knowledge of the internet circa 2000 to 2010. In that case, you’ll know that ninjas were the sworn enemies of pirates, and debates about their deadliness dominated discussion day and night. However, I’m nothing if not amenable, and my interest in reviewing interesting games far outweighs my disdain for our seafaring adversaries. Captain Blood has had quite the journey. Based on the Rafael Sabatini novels of the same name, the game initially began development back in 2003 but has effectively been trapped in Davy Jones’ locker until now. As we sail closer to the game’s release, we’ve updated the demo to better reflect its state and the new technologies in it: x64 architecture, modern rendering APIs (DirectX 12 by default, with Vulkan available via an .ini file), a physics engine adapted to the new systems, and a range of smaller quality-of-life improvements. We’d love for you to give it a try and share your thoughts—it really helps us fine-tune the game for launch. Implemented a temporary fix to prevent game crashes on SteamDeck. Default settings now feature rebalanced audio levels and fullscreen mode. The "No Mercy" achievement now functions correctly. The key binding tool no longer permits binding to system keys. Various UI improvements.

Way back in 2004, that terrible year when I swore off video games entirely to focus on my university studies, developers 1C SeaWolf announced Captain Blood, a piratical action game loosely based on Rafael Sabatini's adventure novels, in which a crew of 17th century freebooters set forth across the Spanish Main to rescue a magistrate's daughter from assorted bilge-drinking scallywags. Early footage painted the portrait of a spirited 3D hack-and-slasher featuring much buckling of swashes, heaving of hos and jollying of rogers. Jim Rossignol (RPS in peace) was cautiously enthused when he played Captain Blood in 2008 . "It was actually pretty fun - especially the arcade boat violence between speedy galleons - but I'm not exactly holding out for a masterpiece," he wrote.
