Now we are expanding the Core Group and will be inviting even more players to participate for our most complex test to date: the CO-OP MODE! What is Core Group & How to Join? Our Core Group Testers are our most trusted players who are willing to try early builds and provide feedback before wider release to the public. We are expanding the Core Group for possibly the last time, so players can invite their friends and family to play the co-op mode together. Co-op will be best played with friends than strangers. So we're making it official: co-op is confirmed for the Early Access launch, not a post-launch add-on, not a "we'll see." It's there on day one.More details will be released in coming days, including the schedule for the co-op beta. • CBT Results Are In: Here's What's Next - 24 July 2026

Survivors,The Closed Beta gave us the largest pile of player feedback in the game's history. We've now finished working through the survey responses, videos, streams, Discord, and Steam comments, and as promised, we want to share the results with the people who created them: you.Whether you fought your first zombie this beta or you've been breaking our builds since Pre-Alpha, we thank you. A test at this scale tells us things no internal playtest ever could, and every one of these numbers exists because you took the time to answer honestly.A special shout-out goes to our Core Group testers. The candid, detailed feedback you gave us between tests drove many of the changes that made these Closed Beta results possible — thank you for helping us get here. • 67,000+ players took part in the Closed Beta!• 30% of the players were from the USA, 11% from Germany, and 7% from the UK—home of Birmi…

  • Thanks for an Amazing Beta Test! - 10 July 2026

Survivors, Hard to believe, but it’s already been more than 10 days since our first public beta test wrapped up. We’ve run several tests before with a passionate group of early testers, but this was our first time opening the game to everyone without an NDA. Safe to say, the team was both excited and pretty nervous. Once we started reading through all the thoughtful feedback, we felt a huge sense of relief. At the same time, it reminded us how much we want to deliver something great and make sure we don’t let you down at launch. We received a ton of feedback through the survey, Discord, social channels, and the Steam Community. While we couldn’t respond to every comment individually, please know that we read everything you shared. To be honest, we received a lot more feedback than we expected, so it’s taking us a bit of time to thoroughly review everything, align as a team, and determin…

  • A Note to Our Survivors Before the Closed Beta - 19 June 2026

Dear Survivors, Since we first announced the game at Gamescom 2024, we’ve come a long way. And we’re incredibly excited to finally share this milestone with you. As we open this larger public test, we want to sincerely thank our Core Testers who helped shape the game through our Pre-alpha, Alpha, and Core Group Tests. Your feedback at each stage has given us valuable insight into what’s working, what needs improvement, and where we should focus next. During our Core Group Test earlier this month, we identified several areas that still need work, but we also saw encouraging signs that the game is moving in the right direction. After addressing a few of the most immediate improvements from that build, we felt ready to welcome more of you into this next phase of testing. To everyone joining us for the first time—thank you for being here. Your feedback, big or small, will help us shape the…

  • Breathing Life into the Mundane Pt. 2 - 20 April 2026

Survivors,A while back we wrote about breathing life into the mundane — the philosophy behind making Birmingham feel grounded through physics, object interaction, and the small tactile moments that add up to a believable world. Picking up an apple. Throwing something. The way an object falls. We’ve had a couple of public tests since then, and a few hundred players have had a chance to get their hands on these systems. The verdict? Good foundation, now get going and make more! So today, we’ll share a handful of specific interactions that, taken together, push the feeling of surviving in medieval Birmingham. Onward and Upward — Climbing LaddersLet’s start with what players have been wanting: ladder climbing. In God Save Birmingham, players can freely move ladders to wherever they want and climb them. Getting ladder climbing to work at arbitrary positions and angles was quite a challenging…

  • Whether You're Ready or Not — Weather is Coming - 15 April 2026

Survivors,As you know we’ve had to work on improving combat after the alpha test, but today, we’d like to share what we’ve been working on in tandem–it’s one of the most ambitious features we've been working on for God Save Birmingham: a dynamic weather system that doesn't just change how the city looks, it changes how you play.Anyone who's spent time in England knows the weather is an important character of the place — one minute it's overcast and grey, the next a proper downpour has cleared the streets entirely. We wanted that same unpredictability baked into every session. The moment you step out of a safe house to find the sky has turned grey, wind cutting between the Le Moule House and Moore Street and zombies congregating around the well, you should feel it in your gut. That's what we're building toward. The Visual Side: Painting Birmingham's SkyThis is where a huge chunk of our e…

  • Alpha Retest Now Closed! - 6 April 2026

Survivors,The Alpha Retest has officially wrapped up. To everyone who jumped back in — thank you. Your time, feedback, and dedication mean more to us than we can express, and this test would not have been possible without you.As a reminder, this retest was exclusively reserved for our Pre-Alpha and Alpha participants. We did not open a new sign-up for this round, so if you weren't part of a previous test, unfortunately there was no way to join this one.But don't worry — more testing is on the way.Future test phases will have their own sign-up, and we'll announce them here on Steam so you won't miss your chance. Make sure you've wishlisted the game and are following our page so you get notified the moment a new sign-up goes live. We're heads-down processing your feedback and putting it to work. More updates soon.- ODS Team

  • Alpha Retest Begins - New Combat Direction Explained - 2 April 2026

Hello Survivors!First of all, thank you once again for participating in our tests and helping with development of God Save Birmingham. After the previous Alpha test, we reviewed a great deal of feedback and confirmed that many aspects of the game are moving in a positive direction. However, combat received quite a bit of negative feedback, so after extensive internal review, we are trying several important changes. To verify whether these changes are moving the game in a better direction, we decided to run an additional test with our existing testers and this is that test.As the test begins, we would like to share our intended direction going forward, as well as the details of what has been applied in this test build, so that we can receive more accurate feedback.Future Direction for Combat ImprovementsImprove the existing combat animations to make the overall combat feel more responsive…

  • Alpha Test Recap - 19 March 2026

Survivors. It's been a few weeks since our Alpha test wrapped up, and we've been buried in spreadsheets ever since. 301 of you showed up to the survey, and told us exactly what you thought of the game. That's what this is all for. Before we get into the numbers, a genuine thank you. Whether this was your first time playing God Save Birmingham or you came back after the Pre-Alpha, your time and honesty means everything to a small studio like ours, building something we care deeply about.Right then, let's talk about what we learned. Who Joined the Test?About 29% of survey participants (88 players) were returning from the Pre-Alpha in September. The other 71% were brand new to the game entirely. That mix is really valuable for us. Returning players help us track whether our changes are landing. New players tell us whether the first impression holds up without the goodwill of having been ther…
