• Now Playable via LAN - 1 December 2025

  Hey everyone, We’re excited to announce that with today’s update, Moon Hunters will now be playable via LAN. Computers on the same network (such as your home network, using the same router) can play together. Programmer Marcelo made the change after our Unity servers went offline a few months ago, which you can read about the details of here and here. We’re happy to be able to preserve the online co-op experience that Moon Hunters was designed for. You should be able to obtain all the co-op achievements this way. How to play over LAN/internet To play over LAN: On the host computer: choose a Port (default:7777) and select “Host Game” or “Host Saved Game” The hosting screen shows the IP and Port of the game being hosted. Send this information to the people who will be joining your game On the computers joining the Game, type in the IP and Port of the host and click “Join Game” Enjoy! Now,…

• Future LAN Explorations and the Kitfox Festival - 7 August 2025

  Hey y'all! In our last update we made an announcement about the status of the servers, which you can read in full here. Thank you to everyone who responded so passionately, we are truly touched so many of you also care about the game. We have since had more conversations and have decided to look into allowing players to connect and play online, but only via LAN. Unlike Netcode for GameObjects and Unity Gaming Services and third-party options like Mirror, LAN wouldn’t require a complete re-implementation of the networking making it much more feasible for our team. We’ll have more news about this in the future, but for now we wanted to assure you that we are dedicated to adding these capabilities, which will also open up more opportunities for modders. • Server Update + The Art of Moon Hunters now available - 15 July 2025

  Hey everyone, It's Alexandra from Kitfox with a Moon Hunters update. I'm sad to announce that Unity cut off the service for their networking implementation which means that the Moon Hunters online servers have been cut off effective July 7th. We unfortunately do not have the resources to re-implement it as it would take significant time and resources to rebuild the game for Unity's requirements. This means that the game is now only local co-op, with the possibility of playing online via Steam Remote Play. For instructions and FAQ for how to use Steam Remote Play, click here. • We've announced our next game, a Byzantine RPG simulation: Streets of Fortuna - 17 June 2024

It's been awhile since we've talked here, but we thought you might want to hear that Kitfox has announced another PC-first title, in the PC Gaming Showcase last weekend around Summer Games Fest. We showed off a whole gameplay trailer for Streets of Fortuna, with glimpses of thievery, cooking, flirting, and more: Plus, as we've touted elsewhere, Tarn Adams, the co-creator of Dwarf Fortress is consulting for us on the design and architecture, to assist the simulation and procedural generation of Fortuna being as deep and rich as we hope it can be. We still have a lot of work left to do until we get to even just the initial release, but maybe this is also a Kitfox project for many years after that too. • A Stuttering Fix? - 22 September 2017

  Hey Hunters! A few of you have noticed Moon Hunters has been getting some frequent updates lately. We think we’ve finally finally FINALLY found the thing behind most of the lag and stuttering reports that have been sprinkling the forums. So please play the game and let us know if there’s anything up with it! There should also be major performance improvements when multiple enemies are present. Keep in mind you still need a pretty good system to run Moon Hunters. There are a few cases in which changes made the experience better for many players but potentially worse for others - we're trying to identify the cases that are left and fix them, along with other lingering known issues. If you find any problems as you play, don’t be afraid to poke us (gently!!) in the forums. If it’s about stuttering, please include these details when you report it: Is it a pure low framerate problem? Or does…
