• Backrooms Stories 1.2 - Now in Japanese, plus a new launcher - 10 July 2026

  This update is about two things: the whole game in Japanese, and a better first screen. Japanese The full game is now playable in Japanese. All five stories, every ending, every menu, about 2,500 lines in total. If your Steam is set to Japanese, the game starts in Japanese on its own. You can switch anytime with the language button in the top corner of the launcher, or in Preferences, and it remembers your choice. A new launcher We rebuilt the launch menu around the key art. The title sits front and center, the buttons are cleaner, and the "More from Liminal Games" row at the bottom now shows up instantly instead of waiting on a fetch. That's it for 1.2. If you play in Japanese and spot a line that reads oddly, post in the discussions and we'll fix it.

• Update 1.1: Steam achievements - 1 July 2026

  Backrooms Stories now has Steam achievements. There are 14 to find: one for the scariest twelve endings across the five stories, one for reaching your first ending, and one for collecting them all. If you finished some of the stories before this update, you don't have to replay anything. The game checks your existing play history on launch and unlocks whatever you already earned. The game is also 30% off during the Steam Summer Sale, so it's a good time to grab it if you've been waiting. That's the whole update. Save files are untouched. If an achievement doesn't unlock when it should, let us know in the discussions and we'll take a look. Thanks for playing.
