- Services & Science Patch Notes - Version 1.1.0 - 8 September 2026
Research Redesign The legacy research system was replaced with a new tech tree. Research now accumulates toward generating Tech Points.Tech Points are used to instantly unlock Technologies. All Technologies cost 1 Tech Point. Each new Tech Point requires more Research than the last, creating implicit long-term scaling.Technologies are placed on a spatial, hex-based research grid.Tech Points can be spent only on adjacent Technologies to already researched nodes.Wonder Technologies sit far from the origin and require sustained, focused commitment.Breakthrough Technologies and Mystery/Story Technologies are discovered separately and are not bound to the main research grid.Initiatives are additional entry points to different sections of the board that you can uplock by completing certain goals. Anomalies and exploration can unlock off-path Technologies within a capped radius of current progre…
- Surviving Mars: Relaunched - What's New Since Release - 7 September 2026
Hello Commanders,When Surviving Mars: Relaunched went live last November, we mentioned that it was the launch pad for a new era of Surviving Mars, with more to explore down the line. Tomorrow, we drop a free update that rebuilds two of the systems sitting closest to the heart of the game, alongside the first part of our Prime Mission - the content pack Feeding the Future. Before we get to what's coming, it's worth taking a note of what's already here. If you last visited Mars around launch, the colony you'd land in today is a noticeably different place, and a lot of that is down to the reports, saves, and forum threads you've sent our way. Below are some highlights of what’s happened in the last few months, and if you want to get into the nitty-gritty details, check out the full patch notes log here: Complete Changlog for patch 1.0.1 to 1.0.7 - Asteroids - Asteroids no longer expire. - Haemimont Diaries #7: Food for Thought - 28 August 2026
Hi all,It's finally time to talk about the changes to food. Unlike many of the other mechanics, most of the changes here will require the "Feeding the Future" DLC.Why change Food?We always felt that the food was too simplistic - there are many crops, animals, and fungi in the game, but in the end, it all becomes generic green cubes that the colonists eat. They don't reflect variety or the food's effects on the colonists' well-being. We want to expand food so that it feels more authentic without making it feel like a chore. DelicaciesColonists still eat green cubes to survive - that hasn't changed, but we also introduced 8 new resources called Delicacies. They are distributed in Food Service buildings and will increase colonist stats when consumed with food. Not all Food Service buildings can consume all Delicacies, and you may need to build specific buildings for some of them (e.g., a C…

- Haemimont Diaries #6: Being of Service - 11 August 2026
Hi all, This time, we are talking about services and colonists. This is a major change with big implications for how you build your domes and structure your colony. Service impactService buildings now affect colonist stats across the whole dome, and every colonist to whom a service applies is affected equally. Each service building has a service type and a service capacity. Buildings of the same service type (for example, the Spacebar and the Small Spacebar) are combined into a single pool that affects the entire dome. The service impact from all categories adds up to determine the total impact of the services on the colonists. When a category has less service capacity than the dome population, the stat gain is reduced proportionally. To get the full bonus, add buildings until their combined service capacity covers the dome population. Some services are meant for a specific group: Playg…
- Haemimont Diaries #5: Political Decisions - 28 July 2026
Hi all,Time for another dev diary, and this time we are talking politics. The Original PlanThe idea behind the politics was always to allow you to customize your colony rather than to act as a second research tree. Somewhere along the way, we strayed from that goal, so we want to return to this principle. It’s All About ChoiceThe main idea of each law is that it should offer you a meaningful choice. Let’s take the old “Rocket Speed Standards” law - it did not offer any meaningful choice apart from “Do I want to sacrifice 100 RP for faster rockets?” This is why we scrapped it in favor of the new “Rocket Orbits” law that gives you a real choice - faster rockets for extra fuel or slower rockets for less fuel. This is just one example, but multiple laws have been affected by this.Mechanical and Political ChangeIn other laws, we have changed the underlying mechanics. For example, Outsourcing i…
- Haemimont Diaries #4: Lab Leaks - 14 July 2026
Hey folks,Vlad here - senior game designer at Haemimont Games, currently surviving Mars one research rework at a time. I hope this fourth update finds you all well. It is my turn to do one of these dev diary things, and I want to expand on something we touched on back in "Full Steam Ahead": the new Research System.A New Way to ResearchThe old research system was several distinct tech fields, each with its own techs in a fixed, consecutive order. Aside from skipping the occasional tech thanks to an anomaly, and choosing which field to "rush," there were not many parameters that let you personalize your approach to fit your play style or strategy. That is no longer the case. The new Research System is a spatial board with technologies branching in every direction. Tech fields still exist, but their implications are different now. What you get is an interconnected web of techs that connect…
- Haemimont Diaries #3: A Balancing Act - 30 June 2026
Hi all,It's Lyubo, Lead Designer over at Haemimont Games. This time, I want to talk about something less flashy than rockets or domes, but something that's close to my heart as a designer: balance. It is a topic we have largely left untouched since release, and it is overdue for some honest attention. The ProblemSince launch, Surviving Mars has gained a lot of features and quality-of-life options, and almost all of them have made the game a little easier. We have never followed up with a serious balance pass, and it shows. The result is a difficulty curve that runs backward. The game is hardest in the opening hours and then falls away to nothing once a few key techs and production chains come online. Concrete and Metals are the clearest symptom: in the early game, they have become so easy to acquire that they barely factor into your decisions anymore. The Short-Term FixesOur first step is…

- Feeding the Future Timeline Update - 10 June 2026
Hello everyone, After the release of Surviving Mars: Relaunched, we made a choice to focus on the base game first — listening to your feedback and delivering a series of updates to make sure the foundation was as strong as possible. Lots of patches have happened (and you can read a summary of all of them here), with the latest one being 1.0.7, which included major changes. That focus has meant shifting our attention to post-launch content a little later than originally planned. As a result, after many discussions, we are shifting the Feeding the Future content pack release to Q3 instead of Q2, which will let us stay focused on development and make sure that we provide a good experience for you. It was a hard decision to make, but we're confident it was the right call — and now we're fully focused on making Feeding the Future something you'll truly love. To make sure you are in the loop…
- Patch 1.0.7 - Patch Notes - 28 April 2026
Rockets ReworkAs outlined in Haemimont Diaries #1, we’re introducing a major rework of the Rockets by converting the existing ones to universal Rockets that can be sent to all destinations, Asteroids included. Following your feedback and reactions to this announcement, we decided against removing the Asteroid Lander – it will remain available for use. Read all the details below. When ordering a Cargo Rocket from the Resupply menu, you are now taken through a Select Destination screen where you choose where to send the Rocket – to Mars or to an Asteroid (if available). Rocket cargo is then displayed according to the destination.Asteroid Landers bought from Earth will still have a default destination Mars and you’ll be able to manage them once they arrive on the Red Planet. As before, they can only be used to travel between Mars and Asteroids. Asteroid Landers require less Fuel than regul…

Based on your main feedback, we have been working on improving the stability and the overall gameplay experience, and here are some of the improvements we made:The p…
- Patch 1.0.6 - Patch Notes - 16 February 2026
Hey everyone, We’re back with Patch 1.0.6, bringing a round of fixes, refinements, and system improvements. This update reworks the Underground Elevator, further integrates the Surface and Underground grids, and smooths out a number of issues affecting Mysteries, Politics, Trains, and Asteroids. Underground Elevator reworkIn 1.0.6 we’ve changed how the Underground Elevator functions. The resource transfer UI for the Underground Elevator has been removed. The Elevator now works like a Universal storage that’s available both on the surface and in the underground. And just like a Universal storage you can allow or forbid it from taking specific resources. Drones will then be able to use the stored resources both for the surface and the underground maps as needed. We’ve also added new commands that tell the elevator where you want a resource to be used - on the Surface or in the Underground…

Hi all, My name's Lyubo and I'm the lead designer for Surviving Mars: Relaunched. It's been several weeks since release (and three hotfixes) so it is high time to give you more information on what we are working on right now. We are committed to fixing the game and making it as good as it can be - we just need time. There will be bug fixes, balance changes AND new content in the form of 6 new laws. As there are new bugs being reported every day, I cannot promise that we will fix everything but we are aiming at the most common issues that have cropped up.New Asteroid FlowAsteroid Landers will have 2 distinct modes - Manual an…
