- Retiring the Old Demo - 12 August 2026
Hey folks,Scaravan's demo hasn't been updated in roughly a year. The full game has moved forward and left it behind! We don't have the capacity to keep it up to date, evidently, so we've decided to take it out of commission for now while we get a new one ready. We'll call it a pitstop...Meanwhile, as the band plays, the dev crew is still hard at work cramming more chaos and polished chrome into Scaravan. Three more areas are in the works, and the enemy roster has grown a bunch since you've last seen it.Other things Since the last demo update we've rebuilt enemy core smarts, navigation, and spatial awareness; reworked mouse and gamepad controls (yes again!); overhauled the story beats and upgrade paths based on user feedback; and a ton of other stuff we plugged in there during the year. The current demo is missing all of those, so it's an outdated first impression that we'd rather keep of…
- Burnouts & Buffs. This Update Hits Harder. - 27 August 2025
Hi gang! It's been a month and 10 days since the last demo update and we're back for another! While a lot of our time and effort has been on content beyond the demo region, we've still managed to have a significant number of changes for the demo. I'll leave you with a list of highlights followed by the detailed release notes, that might be interesting to someone. Suggestions and feedback are very welcome! Come talk to us on Discord or here on the Steam forums! Highlights Major Rework of Aiming: We've heard from quite a few of y'all in the feedback forms about the un-good aiming in the previous version. The aim assist was aggressive and sticky, it was required for aiming to work at all, the mouse movements would get stuck on the corners, and aiming behind the car was clunky and unintuitive. We've been trying a lot of things out and we're happy enough with the progress so far to add it in…
- Steam Deck and Handheld Support - 24 August 2025
Playable on Steam Deck? YES! Fully playable with good performance in our internal testing (with Proton). Performance Snapshot As of the July 16th demo build, v0.6a-35, we're able to run the game, at low/medium mixed settings, consistently well above +30fps on the Steam Deck OLED and ROG Ally (with Windows) while unplugged, usually above 40fps. The game currently uses just a bit above 20w with these settings, though it does spike while loading threads are active. We intend to keep the game running smooth on these handheld devices in all future updates and to improve power usage where we can. Recommended Graphical Settings Medium for most settings EXCEPT Global Illumination and Reflection Quality (set these to Low) Resolution: Deck @ 1280x800, ROG Ally @ 1280x720p Higher resolutions are playable, but expect increased battery usage (up to ~30W on Ally). Note: The game does run ok on medium…
- Little-bit-big Demo Update 0.6a-35 - 16 July 2025
Hey everyone, We're here with a brand new Demo Update! We've received and read through all of the feedback you've sent in, and many changes have been made to the game since the last time the demo received an update. Release Notes: Major changes Added Save Games New characters (Devil, Siobhan, Feng) New Forest Boss Fight Fixed Gamepad bug causing menu items to be deselected Added Devil challenges New HUD UI New Ammo UI (WIP) Many performance optimizations (always improving here) Added many new dialogues (Still missing Voice Overs - We're working on it!) Other Changes Weapon and enemy balance (WIP, we intend to update again soon with more) New set of zomboy animations and melee range combat Fixed b…
- New Demo! - 16 July 2025
Hey there reapers! Here's the latest gossip: Scaravan 66 will NOT be in early access this July. While we announced, not too long ago, that it would be heading to Early Access, we've decided to delay this and instead refresh the demo while the full game bakes a little longer. Development is going very well, the other areas are being fleshed out, and our enemy roster is really filling up! BUT with all of the feedback we've received, we want to spend a little more time tweaking and polishing while we can, before putting it out there. The good stuff: New Demo!, As I've mentioned, we've got a new demo up on Steam. The release notes for all the changes can be found here Here's what's up, we've put a lot of work into the game game since we released the early preview demo during February's Steam Next Fest, and while we can't do EA just yet, we could keep updating the demo and treat it like a ty…
- DevLog 10: Meet The Cast: R.I.P. Tide Posse - 25 March 2025
Hailing from the sunny and deadly, R.I.P. Tide Coast, this gang of beach bully bad boys also happen to be half-shark half-men, 100% Sharkmen. When they aren’t partying on the beach with bodacious babes, or hanging ten on some gnarly waves, they are wreaking havoc on the highways along the coast. Very little frightens them, more confident in a puka necklace and socks with sandals than anything else, there are only two things they fear, the devil herself and the meanest of them all: their ruthless and mysterious leader, Johnny Splash. Equipped with jet skis and the raw unmatched power of their incredible shark teeth, this shiver of sharky bad boys are on the hunt to stop Lucky from reaching the end she would be so close to achieving in their territory.
- DevLog 9: Meet The Cast: Theta Theta Psi Sorority - 21 March 2025
Almost unintelligible with insider lingo speak, these late teens, early twenties kids of rich families got where they are by selling their souls to the devil and making multi-generational demonic pacts. For many, participating in evil rituals about sacrificing innocents are some of their earliest and fondest memories with their parents. Their parents attend secret society meetings where they plan to buy and corrupt politicians, blackmail world leaders, and use the media to manipulate the masses. These Socialite kids, meanwhile, mostly just attend parties, get messed up, or go joyriding in their expensive cars and commit the occasional murder for the fun of it. They are so similar. Are they all related? No, they just go to the same plastic surgeon, and the same personal trainer, and wear the same matching outfits, and think the same thoughts, and anyone even one inch shorter or taller th…
- DevLog 8: Meet the Cast: Ximena - 18 March 2025
No-nonsense and cheeky flirt mechanic Ximena loves to help. She’s no pushover, but she loves to flex by showing off her strength and skills. Need your oil changed? Easy work. Want help moving a couch? No problem, she’ll do most of the lifting. While she’s almost comically determined to prove herself, she plays it really cool. She prefers to joke and keep things light, and despite all of her friendly efforts, she keeps people at an arm’s length and separate from her inner world. Before her death on Route 66, she had worked as a local mechanic and lived nearby even longer, though her home often changed. She’s one of the few reapers who didn’t die passing through.
- DevLog 7: Meet the Cast: The Zomboyz - 16 March 2025
The Zomboyz are a chaotic band of zombified psychobilly punks. Addicted to adrenaline, carnage, and rock’n’roll, they have a joint mission of both stopping Lucky and seeing how far they can send their limbs flying in a radical explosion. The Zomboyz originate from an epic concert in the desert, set up by a famous Psychobilly band. Trying their best to make a memorable rager, the band turned to ancient demonic texts and rituals for inspiration for the show. Unknowingly, the texts and symbols possessed real magic and they accidentally turned the entire wrecking pit into unwitting sacrifices to the devil. Instantly dead, and instantly rebirthed as the undead, many of the crowd, caught up in how metal it all was, willingly threw themselves into the sacrificial circle to be “wrecked” as they later would call it. The hard-core circumstances of their creation made them eternal servants to the…
- DevLog 6: Meet the Cast: The Skeleton Crew - 13 March 2025
In the 1950’s, the military experimented with nuclear weapons in the desert. In one tragic incident, experimenting with a new novel form of radiation, something went horribly wrong. Many died. The bases were closed down, and the entire situation was covered up. That was not the last of those sickly souls, however, and through the unknown properties of the strange radiation, their irradiated corpses rose once again. Their flesh melted off, revealing walking skeletons, glowing from the radiation that they themselves now emit. Now these former soldiers and military scientists continue their former goals of advancing their scientific and technological knowledge to create powerful weapons. Working out of their long-abandoned bases and working with whatever old tech they can scrounge up and repair, they develop and employ deceptively high-tech weapons and vehicles which they use to defend the…
- DevLog 5: Meet the Cast: The Fratwolves - 7 March 2025
Hey hey, Andy here again. Happy Friday! Today we are going to learn about the first gang you encounter in Scaravan 66: The Fratwolves. Loud, aggressive, athletic, and dumber than a bag of jock-straps. The Fratwolves are a gang of college football players who intentionally became infected with lycanthropy to get that extra edge on the field. The original werewolf bite was provided in a deal with the devil, which came with the hefty cost of eternal servitude, but can you really put a price on the best football season of your college career? Everything would be going perfectly, or rather it would be, if they could just get practice in or stop missing their games. Unfortunately, one little annoying Road Reaper keeps driving off of her section of Route 66 and into the territory the Fratwolves are tasked with policing. No time to party, no time to practice, no time for brewskis with the brosk…
- DevLog 4: Meet the Cast: Molly Morgue - 5 March 2025
Hey there! Andy again. Coming at you a day late because frankly I forgot what day of the week it was. Today we are learning a little about Molly Morgue! Mysterious and vibrant, Molly doesn’t have any regrets from life. Death-obsessed and with a dark sense of humour, Molly has never felt more at home than in the after-life. Once a doghouse bass player with dreams of being in a Psychobilly band, in life she aspired to raise the roof and steal the show with her wicked bass playing, however Molly discovered that in death her instrument had the ability to raise and command the dead instead. Frankly, as she found out, that's all she ever wanted in the first place. A captive audience who does as she bids. As a new necromancer and a lifetime control freak she enjoys the power she wields, which is not insignificant given the job that was thrust on her as a Road Reaper. Maybe the only reaper who…
- Demo Update 0.5.3 - 3 March 2025
Hey there! v0.5.3 is a quick hot-fix for a few issues in the demo: - Fixed the infinite Extra Lives bug - Added a quick safety check to stop dialogues from closing before they're ready to - Fixed Demo not ending if Lucky had extra lives
- DevLog 3: Meet the Cast: Mimosa Ron - 28 February 2025
Hey hello! It's Andy again! Happy Friday! Today we're going to meet another one of the cast members of Scaravan 66: Mimosa Ron! Former mathematics professor, Ron had only just started his retirement and was ready to live it up when he met a terrible fate along Route 66, awaking to find that he was now doomed to reap souls. Ron had only just left the workforce and found himself back in the drudgery of working life. Determined to reclaim his retirement years and the cruise he was supposed to take, Ron does the least he possible can in order to fly under the radar of the ever watchful demons who keep the reapers in line. While a lot of reapers are rough, tough and prefer hard liquor, Ron spends most of his time sampling the most delicious umbrella decorated tiki cocktails and having a good time. If he’s not blending a frozen margarita he’s sunning himself in the sand or putting his feet up…
- DevLog 2: Meet the Cast: Scoville - 25 February 2025
Hey hello! It's Andy again! Today we're going to take some time to meet one of the cast members of Scaravan 66: Scoville! Scoville is a Road Reaper and a powerful ally of our hero Lucky D. He gives fire-related upgrades at pit stops that'll make even the fiercest minions of hell sweat. Once a hitchhiker, traveling cook, and odd-jobber, Scoville could charm anyone with a word or a pot of chili. Wearing his heart on his sleeve didn’t always pay off in life, but it never made him jaded, only wiser. If bad experiences were hard lessons and hard lessons made a wiser man, then Scoville knew it all. He wasn’t one to raise his voice, but not one to roll over either. If you are lucky enough to call him friend or neighbour, you can’t pass by without being offered some of his latest experimental culinary creations or comforting favourites. After coming to an untimely road related incident on Route…
- Demo Update 0.5.2 - 19 February 2025

- DevLog 1: Saying "Hi" and Shouting "LIVE Demo"! - 15 February 2025
Hey everyone! My name is Andy, and along with my partner Al, we’re going to excitedly introduce you all to the world of Scaravan 66 in this series of devlogs. Starting with this one — Today! Right now! So as you’ve probably already read in the description on the store page, Scaravan 66 is a high-octane car combat roguelike. In silly baby terms? This is a game about boom boom zoom zoom, go faster, get stronger, shooty shooty. That and with a light dusting of existential dread and absurdist philosophical themes. As of the publishing of this dev-log, you can download the free demo on Steam, in a pre-alpha state! The game is still under-construction and there are features that are not yet available. For example, the demo is VERY light on narrative (sorry, no major spoilers in this one!), has very little voiceovers, and focuses on early gameplay loop and combat. We are very open to feedback…
