  • Patch 1.3 - Music & Controller Update - 5 January 2025

Hey folks! We've got a nice, somewhat larger patch for Spore Valley today. First off, we've got some great updated musical tracks courtesy of the excellent Matthew Boerner, aka Freshman Biology! The new tracks will also be available through his own platforms, if you want the tracks for yourself! Beyond that, this update also includes finalized controller support! Several parts of the interface have been updated to either work with or make more sense when using a controller, without impacting the mouse+keyboard experience. The whole game can now be played with a variety of input devices: Controller Only (tested on an XBox controller, but the engine supports all common modern controllers) Keyboard Only (that's right, no need for a mouse!) Mouse Only (this was already possible, and is still supported) Any combination of the above! None of the input devices lock each other out; you should b…

  • Patch 1.2.5 - 1 January 2025

Content changes: The tutorial now has a longer intro cinematic, with more information about a normal game's win condition If hints are enabled, encountering a Cacomorph will trigger a new hint suggesting how to deal with it The middle mouse button can now be used to drag-pan the camera around rapidly, in addition to other methods Cacomorph description text updated with more explicit instructions Bug fixes: Cacomorphs should no longer spawn on disconnected sections of the body Cacomorphs should now spawn in the correct amount When a Bioform is lost due to Deficiency, any other Bioforms that are now cut off from the body are correctly highlighted Moving the Sporeling around now correctly triggers fission and fusion logic (i.e. whether other Bioforms are connected to your body or not) Visual flashing to indicate Infestation now correctly triggers on bioforms built on already-infested tiles…

  • Patch 1.2.4 - Fixing Game Breakage - 31 December 2024

The urgent purpose of this patch is to resolve a serious bug where the game fully breaks if you lose after the Lystrosaurus has despawned (the HUD either darkens or disappears entirely, and the world can't be interacted with), effectively preventing you from restarting a new game unless you restart the entire application. Beyond that: Added an additional arrow in the third phase of the Tutorial to remind players that they need to click Next Turn to get more resources and progress Fixed a collection of issues where in-world GUI pips, desiccation dust, and bioforms animating their own disappearance persisted into new games after restarting (more commonly after losing) Fixed an issue where the game's actual current turn could fall out of sync with the turn counter displayed on screen Fixed an issue where the effects of the Lystrosaurus' "present" aren't reflected in the resource HUD Fixed…

  • Patch 1.2.3 - 21 December 2024

Further tweaks to the new tutorial experience, with more guidance on some sticking points surrounding Lipode placement requirements, and metabolic stagnation.

  • Patch 1.2.2 - 13 December 2024

A tiny urgent patch to fix a problem where the previous patch resets player data in a way that caused the main menu to break.

  • Patch 1.2.1 - Tutorial Tweaks - 13 December 2024

This patch is mostly about making some changes to the tutorial flow in response to some user feedback, to try to be more explicit about what is happening in the tutorial. In addition, I've updated the way Toxicity works if you've filled the entire map. If there's no free space for Cacomorphs to grow on the edge of your slime, they will now grow in your slime itself, replacing existing bioforms. Watch out! In addition, there were several changes under the hood to streamline development and help set groundwork for the next game. These don't seem to have caused any bugs, but if they did, I will try to track them down and fix them!

  • Patch 1.2 - Expanded Tutorial - 2 December 2024

Hey folks! There's a new patch out today, so here's what's up: Expanded Tutorial Today's patch is mostly about expanding the game's tutorial with more explicit and more visual instruction on some of the game's mechanics. Hopefully, this new tutorial will be helpful to anyone having trouble diving straight in! Other Changes This patch also hooks up some controller support for most actions, though there are some design kinks that remain to be worked out here. Apart from that, there are some small graphical bug fixes, mostly dealing with GUI elements being misaligned or incorrectly spaced, or with GUI element visibility not being properly changed based on the game state. There are also some under-the-hood optimizations. For the Future Two big things currently remain on my future roadmap: full controller support, and a Mac version.

  • Patch 1.1.1 - 23 November 2024

Sneaking in another fix to deal with an issue where the new achievement sometimes didn't trigger.

  • Patch 1.1 - 23 November 2024

This is a small content and fix update that covers a few things: Added a critter that will sometimes appear and affect gameplay very slightly Added an associated achievement Fixed issues with tile borders not working in some cases where water, soil, and desert meet Minor optimizations and safety checks at various parts in the code

  • Spore Valley is out now! - 16 November 2024

Hey folks! Today's the day Spore Valley heads off into the world. If you feel like working through some tile placement puzzles to the sights and sounds of pixellated alien slime creatures, now's your chance! Spore Valley was planned as a pocket-sized little game, so there won't be any major content updates that expand the core gameplay. Lystrosaurus Studio will soon shift gears into production of a newer, bigger game that builds on the foundations set out by Spore Valley. But the work here isn't quite done yet! An update in the near future will introduce a Mac build for Spore Valley, as well as full controller support and as many fixes as possible for any bugs reported in the weeks to come. There may also be a little paleontological easter egg in the mix. In the meantime, have a great weekend, and happy sporulating!
