- Small CRUFTmas Update! - 23 December 2025
Merry CRUFTmas All!Just a few little updates... Locked stream and pond art updated to flow together better Recipes that do not eat a hammer no longer return a hammer (thank cap!) Save games fortified with extra durability. They are more tolerant to lightning strikes, gremlins, and toddlers. If something messes with your machine while the game is attempting to auto-save, you will lose a little progress but a backup will keep you from losing the save. This all happens in the background. CRUFT-mas cheer (Thanks Luke!): Some animals have festive hats. (not the goose though, because he is silly) Pine tree has been beautified. This will be up for a limited time til we all trudge back to our less festive lives.Have a wonderful and safe holiday folks!

- Steam Deck Compatibility - 17 December 2025
Cruft runs well on the Steam Deck, and if you are comfortable using its joystick or trackpad to move the cursor, it’s a great way to play. The simple graphics are a breeze for its hardware and the no-pressure gameplay is perfect for dropping in and out of.Cruft’s input system was not conceived with controllers in mind. It’s a very mouse-driven game, so there isn’t an alternative to doing most things through the mouse cursor. Thanks to Steam’s Input Translation feature, you can use the joystick or trackpad alongside the L/R buttons to do everything you would do with a mouse. We also made sure that you can rebind your controls in-game from the escape menu, in case a specific button mapping isn’t working for you. The controller layout that seems to work the best for Cruft is “Keyboard (WASD) and Mouse”. You shouldn’t need to select this layout, it is the default. There are some limitations…

The Boston indie community is pretty wild and vibrant and it was an honor to be chosen this year. That's the look of someone who is relieved that he packed everything that he thought he did and also that all the packed things still worked when they arrived. Everything went off without a hitch.Got to show the game off to oodles of fun folks! There was even an appearance from the actual Tim, who true to form showed up with protein bars and water just to help things go smoothly.
