- Version 2.0 Is Live! - 31 March 2026
POCKET MYSTERY EP DX 2.0 is now live! This update started as a way to start learning more Godot as well as interfacing with more elements of Steamworks. It also served as a way to teasing out more weird stuff that'll makes it way into the (long gestating, but finally back-in-development) remake. This probably won't wildly change your opinion of the game, and that's okay - but it attempts to make it more playable on different hardware (this was test a fair bit on Steamdeck) and improve the presentation a bit beyond a simple .ROM file emulated in a NodeJS app. Somethings didn't ultimately make the cut (such as remappable controls), but a variety of things have been tweaked, and there's additional content too. What's NewConverted the emulation to GodotBoyPassword System for unlocking hidden content (visual filters, backgrounds, a short interactive fiction piece made almost entirely with a Gam…
- Version 2.0 Development Update - 14 March 2026
It's been a few months since Version 2.0 was announced, and it's been pretty quiet since. Look, "early 2026" means different things to different people, but the update is aiming for a release before the end of March. What's New in 2.0.This was covered a bit in the initial announcement, but version 2.0 of POCKET MYSTERY EP DX includes:A new engine: With the help of GodotBoy, 2.0 moves from HTML5 to Godot.Unlockable content: Using a password system, players can unlock backgrounds, visual filters, a new game, and possibly other secrets...Quality-of-life and bug fixes: Some adjustments have been made to the underlying ROM of POCKET MYSTERY EP DX to (try to, at least) address some bugs in later puzzles and make the controls clearer.Better Steamdeck support: You should no longer need to use a community layout to play the game on deck, input is recognized out-of-the-box.Achievements: Tied in wi…
- POCKET MYSTERY EP DX 2.0 Coming 2026 - 17 December 2025
One year ago today, POCKET MYSTERY EP DX released on Steam.A lot has happened in the year since. I re-evaluated the state of Nocturne: POCKET MYSTERY REMIXED (a remake and remix of the game) and moved it over from RPG Maker to Game Maker Studio. I started writing a little narrative piece that takes place in the same universe, and uh... I had some serious health issues that halted development on all of this until the last couple of months. This all happened while also developing HYPER GROOVE AX, a rhythm game for Panic's Playdate (also targeting a release early next year, just sayin'). However, all of this work has resumed and some of the fruits of that labor will start to appear soon in the form a 2.0 update to PMEPDX.Lowkey, I had hoped to release this 2.0 update today, but even after dealing with all of the health stuff, life got hectic and I fell behind, so rather than rush it out I…
- POCKET MYSTERY EP DX is Now Available! - 16 December 2024
Almost a year after the original game’s Itch.io release on GameBoy, POCKET MYSTERY EP DX is now avaialble. Known Issues (and Workarounds) Selecting “Continue” (or pressing “B/X” on the Main Menu) causes a crash. Not entirely sure why this is happening, but it has only presented itself in situations where there is no existing save data. Quitting via Steam UI or “alt+F4” doesn’t quit the game. This appears to be related to how the Windows version has been created. We recommend quitting using the very pretty “QUIT GAME” button in the upper-left corner of the screen, this won’t always work either, but we’ve found it to work more consistently. On PC, you can use your mouse to click it and exit that way. On Steamdeck, touch the “Quit Game” button with your finger, or use the right analog stick (or trackpad) to navigate the Steam OS’s cursor to the button and right trigger to click it. Playing…
