• Trafalgar Anniversary Update (220th Anniversary) - 21 October 2025

  To mark the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, a new update has been released for The Weather Gage Playtest. It's already the 6th update (and more are coming).Probably the most requested feature, the option to rebind controls is now available. If the control scheme was holding (e.g. some keys were missing in your keyboard) you can give it a trySee the complete list of changes in the Playtest event (link below)

• Playtest starts - 17 March 2025

  Follow Admiral Horatio Nelson to join the "Sea trials" of "The Weather Gage". You can add from now on the playtest version of this simulation to your Steam library. Thanks for your patience! You will notice there is still really a lot of work to do, but as the Subanutica director explains in an interview as a goal for game-developers "You need to be embarrased with your first release ... if you are not embarrased by it you are probably waiting too long". Therefore your feedback is expected, that's the target of this playtest. • Sea trials signup open - 14 February 2025

  On occasion of the 228th anniversary of the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, the signup for the first "Sea trials" of "The Weather Gage" is open! You can find the link to sign up in the store page. A new announcement will follow when the first version is playable. Battle of Cape St. Vincent (1797)

• Development status & next steps -December 2024 - 17 December 2024

  "The Weather Gage" is still under construction but getting ready for "sea trials" on Steam (i.e. playtesting) In fact there is already ongoing playtesting. A first "virtual captain" with sailing experience and external to this project is testing the 4 most mature ships (merchant schooner, tartane, brig, 9pdr frigate). The feedback is overall positive, e.g. praising the feel and immersion of sailing (specially in first person view) or the level of detail of the frigate (biggest, most mature model). Quite positive too was that he could perform most common sailing manoeuvres such as wearing, tacking, heaving to or coming to anchor with the current controls and only a simple manual (a game tutorial will be included after more playtesting, when the current UI is validated).
