- Play five Assassin's Creed games for free this weekend - 8 August 2023
Ubisoft has announced a free weekend event with five Assassin’s Creed games on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Depending on the platform, Assassin's Creed 2 , Brotherhood , Revelations , Black Flag , and Valhalla will be available to play for free August 10-14. New players will have access to the full main game content for all five titles, and if you want to keep your progression, buy the game, and you can get a discount on your choice. Read more
- Ubisoft give online services for older games a stay of execution - 1 September 2022
Today was due to be the day when some older Ubisoft games would see their online services decommissioned, but the company is granting them a temporary reprieve. You now have until October 1st to cram in some multiplayer for several early Assassin’s Creeds , the original version of Far Cry 3 , Driver: San Francisco and others. Ubisoft say they’ve been “exploring what is possible to reduce disruption” over the last month, hence the shuffled date for decommissioning. Read more
- Ubisoft has postponed its plan to take some of its older games offline [UPDATE] - 31 August 2022
Update : Ubisoft has announced it will postpone its plan to pull some of its older titles offline until October 1. The firm also stated that Anno 2070 will not longer be taken offline. The firm initially said that 15 titles would be affected by the removal of online services, meaning that online features, DLC, and multiplayer modes would no longer be accessible. Now, according to Ubisoft , the single-player DLC of several games on PC - Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed 3 (2012 release), Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cell Blacklist - will be available to download and keep before October 1. If you own these games on PC, activate your DLC before the decommissioning to continue playing it. There will be no impact to the same single-player DLC on consoles, and you will continue to be able to download and play them after October 1 rolls around. Read more

Ubisoft is shutting down a number of online services for some of its older games, including titles like Assassin's Creed 2 . Nothing lasts forever, especially in the world of video games. The latest case of video games losing their online services was announced by Ubisoft earlier this week , with a number of older titles losing their multiplayer. Worse still, PC versions of some games will also no longer let you download DLC for them. Explaining in the announcement post, Ubisoft wrote "Closing the online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles." The titles listed will lose multiplayer from September 1, later this year. Read more
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla trophy leak points to another new addition - 3 November 2021
Another day, another sign of more bits and pieces on the way to Assassin's Creed Valhalla. This time, its a fresh pair of PlayStation trophies which point to new in-game tombs to explore. Specifically, the two trophies will be awarded to players for completing either one or three Tombs of the Fallen, an activity which does not exist in Valhalla at present (thanks, AccesstheAnimus ). Fans are already coming up with their own ideas for what these may be, such as a return to the series' underground platforming locations from the Ezio era, or perhaps - finally - an answer to what those "Odin runes" are all about. - Assassin's Creed Infinity won't be free-to-play, Ubisoft confirms - 29 October 2021
Assassin's Creed Infinity, the mysterious next entry in Ubisoft's historical stabathon series, will not be a free-to-play game. Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot confirmed this point last night during the company's latest investor earning call (thanks, Gamespot ), when asked for more information on the project. It's an important point to note for two reasons - one, because Infinity will be a different kind of project that shakes up the franchise's formula after a trilogy of enormous-sized releases, and two, because of Ubisoft's recently-stated push for its AAA franchises to enter the free-to-play space. Ubisoft has released its Q2 earnings report which, as well as confirming its 2022-23 release slate and a delay for The Division: Heartland, has revealed Assassin's Creed: Valhalla to be its "second largest profit generating game". Valhalla, which was previously described as having the "biggest launch for any Assassin's Creed game to date", has reached that milestone in under 12 months (its one year anniversary arrives on 10th November), with Ubisoft saying the title has been "outperforming Assassin's Creed Odyssey across the board since its release. In particular, it highlights "higher" daily average revenue per user and "record engagement" for its Siege of Paris expansion. - Assassin's Creed Valhalla's third big expansion spotted again - 20 October 2021
The third big addition to Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been spied again via a datamine of the game's latest patch. Ubisoft is yet to detail the expansion, but it has teased a second year of post-launch content and shown an image of the fiery door to Muspelheim to illustrate what is coming. Today, serial Assassin's Creed leaker j0nathan shared a new video breaking down his latest findings - including new concept art and information taken from the game's latest patch, which appears to show the expansion's name and achievements/trophy list. - Assassin's Creed Valhalla reveals a teasing autumn roadmap - 1 October 2021
A new development roadmap for Assassin's Creed Valhalla has highlighted four content drops coming this autumn. Several things stand out. First, the upcoming Oskoreia Festival due sometime later this season. Interestingly, this is not the Halloween Samhain festival fans were expecting - an event which also forms part of Valhalla's main campaign. Instead the Oskoreia Festival seems based on the folk myth of a monstrous Viking Wild Hunt led by Asgardian raiders, and sometimes Odin himself. An image for the event looks appropriately spooky. - Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Discovery Tour launches free next month - 14 September 2021
Discovery Tour: Viking Age, the upcoming educational mode for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, will arrive as a free expansion on 19th October. A standalone version will launch for £16.99 on PC on the same date, and then on PlayStation and Xbox in early 2022. Previous versions launched as part of the Ancient Egypt-set Origins and the Ancient Greece-set Odyssey. In the past (pun intended), Discovery Tour let you wander the game's world and take part in interactive tours, or examine historical objects and locations to learn about their real-world origins. In contrast, Viking Age will be more narrative-led, and let you "step into the shoes of Viking and Anglo-Saxon characters from the time while living out their stories and adventures". Read more

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is being updated today with a bunch of new additions to its fun if repetitive river raiding mode . Title Update 1.3.1 launches this afternoon for all platforms, and weighs in at 26-34GB (or a more slender 14GB on PlayStation 5). River raids get the most attention today, with a sizable helping of fresh content. Three new maps, set in countries visited in Valhalla's expansions, effectively double the mode's size. You can now leap around Assassin's Creed Valhalla dressed up as the series' legendary Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Specifically, this is the eye-catching Renaissance clobber Ezio wore back in Brotherhood - his fan favourite look. You can acquire the free costume by logging into your Ubisoft Connect account on console or PC - but there's a twist. UPDATE 3pm UK: This season's event, the summer Sigrblot Festival, will run from 29th July to 19th August, Ubisoft has now announced. Valhalla's The Siege of Paris expansion will land right in the middle of all that, on 12th August. Preparations for the above will come as part of tomorrow's 1.3.0 patch, alongside a handful of new skills. These include Light Fingered (auto pickup nearby loot), Thrill of War (gain adrenaline while in conflict), Heidrun Slam (press R2 while sprinting to knock enemies back), Idunn's Heart (passively regenerate recent health loss after a short delay), Survival Instinct (when at less than a third of health, hold -> for partial healing in exchange for adrenaline) and Wolf Warrior (damage increases the lower your health). If this screencap is real, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's upcoming Paris DLC, Siege of Paris, is set to release on 5th August. Though not officially confirmed by developer/publisher Ubisoft, the second DLC instalment seemingly popped up on an Italian Windows store and was promptly screen-capped before the announcement was removed again. While all we can do is chalk this up as an unsubstantiated rumour for now, the screencap - shared via CriptAssassINI (thanks, NME ) - certainly looks convincing. Read more
- Assassin's Creed Infinity is a live service platform connecting future games - 7 July 2021
UPDATE 2.25PM UK: Ubisoft has now formally acknowledged Assassin's Creed Infinity and detailed more of how it will be run, and who will work on it. The lengthy blog post contains mention of two teams led by two creative directors. Clint Hocking, formerly of Splinter Cell and Watch Dogs Legion, will lead a team at Ubisoft Montreal. Jonathan Dumont, a veteran of Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, will lead a team at Ubisoft Quebec. The Infinity project that will include the games made by both these teams will be led by Marc-Alexis Côté, who will now serve as executive producer of the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. Côté worked on Brotherhood before becoming creative director on Syndicate, and is one of the most senior staff at Ubisoft Quebec. Read more
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla's mastery challenge mode adds fun trials and a teasing new storyline - 18 June 2021
This week's big Assassin's Creed Valhalla update added a new mode to the game, Mastery Challenge, which offers a series of repeatable maps to stomp and stealth your way through in return for fresh rewards. We knew the gist of all this already - and we'll go into more detail below - but what has come as a nice surprise is the new narrative this mode folds into the game, including a tease for something else being added to Valhalla down the line. The Mastery Challenge questline begins with a bang, as a meteor hits Eivor's Ravensthorpe. The impact reveals a door, apparently concealed within the cliffside all this time, and a mysterious woman, Hildiran, who's now investigating what's going on. Read more
- Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed signs Die Hard writer - 15 June 2021
The live-action Assassin's Creed series in the works at Netflix has signed up Jeb Stuart as its writer, according to Variety . Most recently, and perhaps most relevantly, Stuart created Vikings spin-off Vikings: Valhalla, a spin-off from the popular Norse telly drama which is also Netflix-bound. Further back, more years than I care to mention, Stuart also wrote the screenplay for the legendary Die Hard. Read more
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla adds new combat and stealth challenge mode tomorrow - 14 June 2021
Tomorrow's update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla adds a new Mastery Challenge mode to the game. Update 1.2.2 will arrive for PC, PlayStation, Stadia and Xbox around 1pm UK time and also adds new skills, river raid cosmetics and other improvements. Mastery Challenge mode is the big addition, and can be found at "numerous shrines hidden in the world", Ubisoft said in its patch notes. Each shrine will host a Trial of the Bear, testing your combat strength, a Trial of the Wolf, testing your ranged ability, and a Trial of the Raven, testing your stealth. Read more
