Hello everyone! Roads of Rage is going to release on June 30th 2025 at about 11am PDT! It's price will be $8 with a 10% launch discount. We have chosen to release the game without a publisher or major marketing strategy with the hope that granting players full access to our game will show the hard work and features we put into Roads of Rage over it's year long development. Change of plans?Whereas before we wished to hold off release for the sake of adding features and building awareness, we've had a change of heart after learning about Steam's "grey zone", which describes games who sell well on Steam that nobody knows about. Additionally, there's talk among seasoned indie dev veterans how the secret to indie game success is that there is no secret, such that sheer chaos and randomness grant success to little known indie devs like us. If that is indeed true, then our old plan to withhold…

Hello everyone! A free demo for Roads of Rage is now available to download on itch.io and steam! We're hoping that giving players access to gameplay will provide a deeper insight into our game. After all, gameplay is the unique feature of gaming as an artform that no other art can provide, to become part of the artwork itself. Demo only contains the tutorial and level 1, but should also include all other game features like local co-op, controller support, accessibility options, car customization, etc. Level 1 should provide a good summary of our gameplay loop; fight cars using cartial arts and special moves, progress the level, build your combo counter and use fun items, encounter the end of level boss, and finally finish with our Outrun inspired minigame. If you encounter any bugs, please let us know by DMing us on X, @harnessgames. Development has been an interesting journey that has…

Hello everyone! Version 0.9.0 is now live, this is a large update because we added player character customization! Colorful! Players now have the option when selecting their favorite car to change the car's color to any RGBA value they desire. We are particularly proud of this, as we previously thought the task to be Sisyphean. However, in exploring Gamemaker's shaders and devising sprite covers, we were able to circumnavigate around the requirement of making multiple, multiple sprites to change colors for each animation, for each cutscene, for each character, and so on. Instead, we constructed a universal solution in the game's code, saving tons of time and resources! But again, this is something that only a game dev is really proud of, players will probably just look at this function and think "huh, neat!" Combat changes! We've also revamped the combat, giving players the option to sw…

Hello everyone! Development for Roads of Rage is trucking along. Atm we're in search of a publisher to help with game marketing and sales, localizations, and QA testing. We also have a twitter account, @harnessgames if you'd like to reach out to us with any questions or opportunities. In the meantime, we're hard at work fixing bugs and adding bits. Please wishlist Roads of Rage and encourage others to do the same, wishlists help gather the attention of publishers and are an easy way for anyone to support us! We're also getting a MacOS build together, but Apple isn't making it easy. Not only do they require you to own a Mac, but it must be a relatively new version in order to run the latest Xcode. Not to mention the extra $100 needed to pay for 1 year of development, which itself wasn't seamless (seamful?) and required several calls to Apple support, who were in fact very helpful, no fau…
